Book Collision Course with God

Download or read book Collision Course with God written by Robert Foust and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-03 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether your teen is a slight problem or a nightmare, you can learn from my experiences raising a teenage sociopath. There is always hope, with God's help. God can give you peace, even when your life is in chaos. In light of recent events, Americans are looking more at the complex reasons that cause shootings. A significant number place the blame with parents not paying enough attention to their children, and of course, mental illness. It has been shown from previous shootings that usually these young people feel like outsiders because they don't have a peer group's respect and support, and they felt unloved at home. Love is one primary inhibitor to bad behavior. I show in my book that there are three primary inhibitors that will make a difference with the behavior of most children. With our complicated lives, all the distractions and demands on each of us, we have to make the most of the time we have with our children. If the influence of the three primary inhibitors is not being felt by your children, then they may not have moral restraints to prevent bad choices.

Book Collision Course

Download or read book Collision Course written by Hugh Davis Graham and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-09-11 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965 were passed, they were seen as triumphs of liberal reform. Yet today affirmative action is foundering in the great waves of immigration from Asia and Latin America, leading to direct competition for jobs, housing, education, and government preference programs. In Collision Course, Hugh Davis Graham explains how two such well-intended laws came into conflict with each other when employers, acting under affirmative action plans, hired millions of new immigrants ushered in by the Immigration Act, while leaving high unemployment among inner-city blacks. He shows how affirmative action for immigrants stirred wide resentment and drew new attention to policy contradictions. Graham sees a troubled future for both programs. As the economy weakens and antiterrorist border controls tighten, the competition for jobs will intensify pressure on affirmative action and invite new restrictions on immigration. Graham's insightful interpretation of the unintended consequences of these policies is original and controversial.

Book excerpt: Why Collision Course? Abraham doubted and stumbled, as we all do. Because of that he left behind a legacy culminating in a collision course between Ishmael's descendants and God's chosen people (Deuteronomy 7:6), the Jewish nation and His Elect, Christ's Holy Church. This enmity that began in antiquity has now manifestly escalated into the earth-shattering conflicts we see splashed all over our TV, on the Internet, and in the print news media daily. We see the hostility and imperialistic belligerence of Islam toward the rest of the world due to Abraham's impiety. However, we see it expressly directed at the Jew and the Christian. For a thousand years, beginning with the Nakhla raid in the mid-seventh century until the Ottoman Empire was soundly defeated at the Battle of Vienna in 1643, Islam's goal was to conquer the world for Allah. It is clear in our day that Islam has once again rekindled its imperialistic mode. In the course of doing research for my first book, Before the Final Trump, I discovered what I believe is an oft overlooked dynamic or link in the ebb and flow of the two disparate sons of Abraham. It is through the life of Abraham that God began to reveal that man comes to God only by faith, not works. That being said, it is the case that most people don't seem to be able to connect the dots between Bible prophecy and everyday events and the end to which they are leading. This is also true of many Christians who should know what the Bible says and be able to tie it to the world in which we live--sadly that is not the case.

Book excerpt: A fallen world is full of reasons to lose heart. From the large-scale tragedies of war, famine, and natural disasters, to the more personal tragedies of broken relationships and broken dreams, it can be difficult to avoid discouragement--even for the believer. And yet, Scripture calls us to a life of hope, based not on wishful thinking or avoiding our problems but based on who God is, what he has done, and what he is still doing. In this short, giftable book, pastor Jason Meyer shows you that though the reasons for discouragement seem strong, the reasons we have to take heart and hold on to hope are stronger yet. Through biblical truth and personal stories, Meyer encourages the weary and anxious believer by shining light on the nature of reality, the nature of God, and the intersection of the two in our daily, rubber-meets-the-road lives. The result is a book that lifts our spirits in a world that too often seeks to drag us down.

Book Hallelujah Anyhow

Download or read book Hallelujah Anyhow written by Barbara C. Harris and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-09-17 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A role model tells her story—and that of the nation and the church. Hallelujah, Anyhow! is the long-awaited memoir of the Rt. Rev. Barbara Harris, the first woman bishop in the Anglican Communion. Edited by Kelly Brown Douglas, Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School at Union Seminary and an author and noted theologian in her own right, the book offers previously untold stories and glimpses into Bishop Harris’ childhood and young adult years in her native Philadelphia, as well as her experiences as priest and bishop, both active and actively-retired. A participant in Dr. Martin Luther King’s march from Selma to Montgomery and crucifer at the ordination of the “Philadelphia 11,” Bishop Harris has been eyewitness to national and church history. In the book, she reflects on her experiences with the “racism, sexism, and other ‘isms’ that pervade the life of the church,” while still managing to say, “Hallelujah, Anyhow.” Photographs accompany the text and round out this portrait of a pioneer, respected outside as well as inside the church for her fierce, outspoken, and life-long advocacy for peace and justice.

Download or read book Collision Course written by Alvin Moscow and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive New York Times–bestselling account: “One of the most intriguing and thought-provoking books about shipwreck since A Night to Remember” (The Detroit News). One of the largest, fastest, and most beautiful ships in the world, the Andrea Doria was on her way to New York from her home port in Genoa. Departing from the United States was the much smaller Stockholm. On the foggy night of July 25, 1956, fifty-three miles southeast of Nantucket in the North Atlantic, the Stockholm sliced through the Doria’s steel hull. Within minutes, water was pouring into the Italian liner. Eleven hours later, she capsized and sank into the ocean. In this “electrifying book,” Associated Press journalist Alvin Moscow, who covered the court hearings that sought to explain the causes of the tragedy and interviewed all the principals, re-creates with compelling accuracy the actions of the ships’ officers and crews, and the terrifying experiences of the Doria’s passengers as they struggled to evacuate a craft listing so severely that only half of its lifeboats could be launched (Newsweek). Recounting the heroic, rapid response of other ships—which averted a catastrophe of the same scale as that of the Titanic—and the official inquest, Moscow delivers a fact-filled, fascinating drama of this infamous maritime disaster, and explains how a supposedly unsinkable ship ended up at the bottom of the sea. In the New York Times Book Review, Walter Lord, author of A Night to Remember, said of Collision Course: “More than a magnificent analysis of the accident and sinking; it is a warmly compassionate document, full of understanding for the people on each side.”

Book The Essence of Humanity

  • Pages : 105 pages

Download or read book The Essence of Humanity written by Gates Gates and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-07-06 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is James Gates. I grew up in the 1940s and 50s, in a diverse hostile social environment in a complex time. This environment was governed by insanity, bigotry, fear and inhumanity. But beyond all the madness, a sense of hopelessness induced a measure of tolerance that created a guarded feeling of happiness and well being, yet tainted by fear. As I observed and experienced the blatant inhumanities associated with bigotry and other flaws, I realized that I was in a unique position to analyze the relationship between human behavior and the natural instincts that governed it. This book is an assembly of poetry and philosophy based purely on my experiences and observations. It was my way of understanding what I felt was the basic fundamental functioning of humanity. It appeared only fitting that I name the book, The Essence of Humanity.
