Book excerpt: Each semester, the N456 Pubic Health Nursing course completes a Population Focused Nursing Process Project (PFNPP). Many of these projects are requested by local public health or related organizations. The Fall Semester 2015 PFNPP project is requested by First District Health Unit (FDHU) and will contribut to their Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF SIG) work. This grant is a statewide public health project to assess readiness of communities to address alcohol related issues, specifically youth drinking and adult binge drinking, and to develop appropriate interventions that are acceptable to the community. FDHU has requested that we contribute to the work of this project by 1) completing the College Alcohol Risk Assessment Guide (CARAG) for Minot State University (MSU), excluding Appendix B10, and adding analysis/perspective to the collected information (Ryan, Colthurst, Segars, 2009); 2) collect, review, and analyze current campus alcohol policy, research college campus alcohol policy best practices and provide suggestions for improvement to current policy. N456 students gathered the data requested in the CARAG, conducted the selected surveys provided in the CARAG, and provided analysis. FDHU provided an incentive for students who completed the surveys. The incentive was at the discretion of the FDHU SPF-SIG committee and they were responsible to distribute it to survey participants.
