Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Chronological Tables: A Synchronistic Arrangement of the Events of Ancient History In this work Ancient History is dealt with in the form of a chronological compendium, ranging from the received date of the Foundation of Rome to that of the Birth of Christ. The object is to give the reader a synoptic view, and so enable him to correct the narrowing tendencies of a study of Ancient History in isolated branches. Thus by the aid of Chronological Tables I - IV the classical student may see at a glance what political events in Palestine or the Eastern monarchies synchronized with those of Greek and Roman History. In Tables V, VI he may see what stage each country had reached at any given period in respect to science, legislation and literature. Exactness of date for these purposes is not necessary and is certainly unattainable. Every department of ancient Chronology has difficulties of its own, which remain to be dealt with by specialists, and until we approach the Christian era anything but approximate verification is at present impossible in perhaps the majority of cases. We have thought it best to adhere in the main to the by no means unexceptionable schemes of Chronology which have assumed a stereotyped form in our Dictionaries of Dates and popular educational works. Where an event is quite mythical or cannot even be approximately dated we have usually added the mark (?). Book Ancient History a Revised Chronology

Download or read book Ancient History a Revised Chronology written by Anthony Lyle and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a culmination of that research. After trashing his work 10 times and starting over, he managed to get a revised chronology that seemed to be more accurate than that being put out by the status quo universities. It combines secular / world history with Biblical history in a far more even and smoother match than that proposed by former historians who have attempted the same. This is his version 12, which doesnt try to match different histories based on dates, but rather by matching people and events and then applying revised dates to those events and people. This work will call into question the conclusions of historians of the last 200 years, about the ancient periods of time, and provide an alternative dating for those times. It is a World History in that it incorporates the ancient history of India, China, Japan, as well as the traditional Middle Eastern and European societies of ancient times. It re-evaluates the beginnings of civilization and the solar system, refuting common historical and scienti?? c beliefs of the modern world. Documents that have previously been written off as Mythology have been re-evaluated as well, as they give a different perspective of ancient times and what happened back then. The use and creation of calendars is an important feature added to this work which is seldom taken into account by modern histories. Incorporated in this work are many of the more recent archaeological ?? nds that have yet to be incorporated in status quo works and institutions. He makes no apology for the fact that this is Biblically based, and the conclusions that have been reached by this work ?? t very well in Biblical contexts and adds some understanding to the events that took place in the Biblical narratives.

Book The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended to Which Is Prefix d a Short Chronicle From the First Memory of Things in Europe to the Conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great

Download or read book The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended to Which Is Prefix d a Short Chronicle From the First Memory of Things in Europe to the Conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great written by Sir Isaac Newton and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Greek Antiquities are full of Poetical Fictions, because the Greeks wrote nothing in Prose, before the Conquest of Asia by Cyrus the Persian. Then Pherecydes Scyrius and Cadmus Milesius introduced the writing in Prose. Pherecydes Atheniensis, about the end of the Reign of Darius Hystaspis, wrote of Antiquities, and digested his work by Genealogies, and was reckoned one of the best Genealogers.Epimenides the Historian proceeded also by Genealogies; and Hellanicus, who was twelve years older thanHerodotus, digested his History by the Ages or Successions of the Priestesses of Juno Argiva. Others digested theirs by the Kings of the Lacedæmonians, or Archons of Athens. Hippias the Elean, about thirty years before the fall of the Persian Empire, published a breviary or list of the Olympic Victors; and about ten years before the fall thereof, Ephorus the disciple of Isocrates formed a Chronological History ofGreece, beginning with the return of the Heraclides into Peloponnesus, and ending with the siege ofPerinthus, in the twentieth year of Philip the father of Alexander the great: But he digested things by Generations, and the reckoning by Olympiads was not yet in use, nor doth it appear that the Reigns of Kings were yet set down by numbers of years. The Arundelian marbles were composed sixty years after the death of Alexander the great (An. 4. Olymp. 128.) and yet mention not the Olympiads: But in the next Olympiad, Timæus Siculus published an history in several books down to his own times, according to the Olympiads, comparing the Ephori, the Kings of Sparta, the Archons of Athens, and the Priestesses ofArgos, with the Olympic Victors, so as to make the Olympiads, and the Genealogies and Successions of Kings, Archons, and Priestesses, and poetical histories suit with one another, according to the best of his judgment. And where he left off, Polybius began and carried on the history. So then a little after the death of Alexander the great, they began to set down the Generations, Reigns and Successions, in numbers of years, and by putting Reigns and Successions equipollent to Generations, and three Generations to an hundred or an hundred and twenty years (as appears by their Chronology) they have made the Antiquities of Greece three or four hundred years older than the truth. And this was the original of the Technical Chronology of the Greeks. Eratosthenes wrote about an hundred years after the death of Alexander the great: He was followed by Apollodorus, and these two have been followed ever since by Chronologers.
