Book Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf Oman and Central Arabia 6 Volume Hardback Set Including Boxed Maps and Genealogical Tables

Download or read book Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf Oman and Central Arabia 6 Volume Hardback Set Including Boxed Maps and Genealogical Tables written by J. G. Lorimer and published by Archive Editions Limited. This book was released on 1986-09-01 with total page 5000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the most important single source of historical material on the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia. Lorimer's Gazetteer was compiled with the original intention of providing British agents and policy-makers in the Gulf, India and London with 'a convenient and portable handbook to the places and interests with which they are likely to be concerned'. Better documentation was regarded as an essential prerequisite to the strengthening of British influence in the area during a period of increasing international tension. The original edition was issued as a secret document by the British Government in India in 1908 and 1915. The range of the Gazetteer is extensive and complex, with descriptive text supported by a variety of annexes and appendices, including historical analyses, texts of treaties and special essays on subjects of interest.

Download or read book Records of the Persian Gulf Pearl Fisheries 1857 1962 4 Volume Hardback Set Including Boxed Maps written by A. Burdett and published by Archive Editions Limited. This book was released on 1995-09-01 with total page 2000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these four volumes Archive Editions presents documentary evidence of the history, development and decline of the great traditional industry of the Persian Gulf. The geographical coverage of pearling activities, though not evenly spread, extends to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the former Trucial States and Muscat, and the early trade in the Red Sea. This collection of documents includes and map box containing tables, lists of pearl banks and maps from Kuwait to Ras Tanura and Ras Tanura to Dubai. These volumes bring together in a single research collection all relevant documents from British government records relating to the primary economic activity in the Persian Gulf before the oil era: the pearl fisheries. The material - virtually all now published for the first time - provides information on the economic, geographic, political and social aspects of the pearl trade as well as details on technical and operating aspects, including the terms and conditions of divers and their Nakhudas (pearling captains).

Book Continental Shelf Delimitation and Related Maritime Issues in the Persian Gulf

Download or read book Continental Shelf Delimitation and Related Maritime Issues in the Persian Gulf written by Ahmad Razavi and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most significant characteristic of the Persian Gulf is the presence of huge oil-fields under the sea-bed of its shallow waters. On the other hand, the lack of understanding among the littoral states concerning the proper exploitation of these valuable resources has led to many conflicts, and is still considered as having a very high potential for conflict. This work clarifies the international legal rules applicable to the region with particular attention to the special characteristics of the Persian Gulf, such as ethnic conflicts, lack of defined land borders, presence of numerous islands, reefs and shoals and the presence of transboundary oil deposits. It consists of a collection of materials relating to the law of the sea, including both domestic and international rules, conventions, maritime agreements, state practice, the jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice and others. The study analyses all of these important factors in order to find an equitable solution to the problems facing the international community.
