His warm, welcoming reminders are wonderfully lighthearted and funny as he brings home Alice's life in a fun, new Cul de Sac collection. Alice and her Blisshaven Preschool classmates charm fans of all ages. Their adventures ring alarmingly true to parents of little ones, too. Thompson's witty dialogue meets comically unique drawings to make Cul de Sac a place worthy of visiting on a daily basis. Download or read book Children s Play written by W. George Scarlett and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2004-09-07 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wonderful edition to a foundations course; much needed focus on the natural way children learn through play!" —Diane Lang, Manhattanville College "This is the most clearly self aware of the several current works in the psychology of children′s play. It has the unique worth of being unusually comprehensive with respect to play stages, gender differences, private lives, neighborhoods, humor, collections, video games, responses to stress and the uses of recess and play therapy. I particularly liked the demonstration of the continuing role of make believe from early childhood on into the theatric, literary, and electronic foci of adolescence. These four authors are to be congratulated for having brought us as students and as parents an unusually readable text." -Brian Sutton-Smith, Prof. Emeritus, University of Pennsylvania "The authors′ treatment of play is both original and provocative. Unlike most previous expositions on play, they consider not only the social and cognitive dimensions of play but also its aesthetic nature. The treatment of youth sport was especially impressive. This is a ′must read′ for students of play." -Anthony D. Pellegrini, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities "Children′s Play combines uncompromising scholarship with fresh, joyful prose. By looking at both the structure and content of play the authors help us understand the developmental significance of this complex way of being in the world. Each chapter contains exactly the topics we want to study and adds surprises that counter the folk-psychology of today. Children′s Play does more than overview the research literature; it engenders new thinking." -George E. Forman, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts, Amherst Play is a fundamental value for children-it is complex, beautiful, and important for children′s development. Play is about having fun, being outdoors, being with friends, choosing freely, pretending, enacting fantasy, and playing games. It is about enjoying the moment, and consequently, not about planning for or worrying about the future. Play is a surprisingly complex and significant phenomenon in the lives of children everywhere. Children′s Play looks at the many facets of play and how it develops from infancy through late childhood. Authors W. George Scarlett, Sophie Naudeau, Dorothy Salonius-Pasternak, and Iris Ponte take a broad approach to examining how children play by including a wide variety of types of play, play settings, and play media. The book also discusses major revolutions in the way today′s children play, including changes in organized youth sports, children′s humor, and electronic play. Children′s Play addresses diversity throughout the text and explores play on the topics of gender, disabilities, socioeconomic class, and culture. Key Features Examines how play is used for purposes other than leisure, including academic learning and reducing stress in environments such as hospitals and refugee camps Integrates culture throughout to give readers a true understanding of how culture shapes children′s play Provides rich illustration of figures and photos to portray children in various play settings Includes pedagogical aids such as chapter-opening outlines, boxed material to highlight key points, real-life examples, and a summary section with key words, names, and ideas for working with children Children′s Play is an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate courses on child behavior in the areas of Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Education, Early Childhood Education, and Educational Psychology. It is also a useful resource for professionals already working with children including preschool, elementary, and junior high school teachers, daycare workers, and related fields. is an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate courses on child behavior in the areas of Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Education, Early Childhood Education, and Educational Psychology. Download or read book From My Heart to Yours a Collection of Inspirational Childrens Stories written by Adriene J. Gill and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Stories Sassafras the Fly. This was a story that was created when I took my niece to college. A dragonfly decided to ride most of the day with us from one stop to the next. I thought it would make a cute children’s story. The Heavenly Patch. My granddaughter developed an eye irritation and had to wear a patch on her eye reluctantly. I thought it would be the awesome opportunity to discuss how God allows both good and bad things to grow but in the end only lets the good shine through. Why Oh Why. My grandchildren are always asking the question why. I thought it would be a great opportunity to put a play on words that would grab children’s attention and keep them interested. Basketball Joe on the Go. When my son was little, he loved to play basketball. It’s still his sport today. It was at the point that he would sleep with his basketball just to get a head start on the next day. I thought it would be fun to create a fun way to look at Joseph without his basketball and the perception of others who always associated him with what was attached to him. A Yellow Bird on my Shoulder. This story gives a glimpse of my grandson’s day in the park when he was introduced to a few birds, in particular, this yellow bird who decided to stop and chat with him for a while. It was an opportunity how children and animals connect in a way without words. Three Daddy Stories. Daddy, Can You Swing with Me? Daddy, Do You Talk to God? and Daddy, I Love You are all three stories that give insight into the important roles dads play and how children connect with them. I was thinking of my grandchildren and their relationship with their dad. Breathe a Rhyme NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana). This story in particular is really dear to my heart. It’s a play on words with rhyme and rhythm. It’s a call for the city of New Orleans to relax and feel the rhythm of the city. It was written especially for the children, given all the social ills and barriers that prevent them from being children as a part of my Breathe a Rhyme NOLA project for school-age children.
Download or read book The Modern Library Collection Children s Classics 5 Book Bundle written by Kenneth Grahame and published by Modern Library. This book was released on 2012-07-23 with total page 1574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For young dreamers, nostalgic parents, and imaginative readers of all ages, this wonderful eBook collection not only contains five of the most beloved children’s books in the world but some of the most admired and enduring literature ever put to page. Each of these can be considered a “Household Book,” as A. A. Milne so affectionately described The Wind in the Willows—books that “everybody in the household loves, and quotes continually ever afterwards; [books which are] read aloud to every new guest.” THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS Kenneth Grahame Written by Kenneth Grahame as bedtime stories for his son, The Wind in the Willows continues to delight readers today. Basing his fanciful animal characters on human archetypes, Grahame imparts a gentle, playful wisdom in his timeless tales. Few readers will be able to resist an invitation to join the Wild Wooders at Toad Hall, enjoy a quick splash in the river with Rat and Badger, or take a swerving ride with Toad in a “borrowed” motor-car. ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND & THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS Lewis Carroll Conceived by a shy British don on a golden afternoon to entertain ten-year-old Alice Liddell and her sisters, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass have delighted generations of readers in more than eighty languages. “The clue to the enduring fascination and greatness of the Alice books,” writes A. S. Byatt in her Introduction, “lies in language. It is play, and word-play, and its endless intriguing puzzles continue to reveal themselves long after we have ceased to be children.” PETER PAN J. M. Barrie Set in London and and the magical Neverland, J. M. Barrie’s tale of a boy who refuses to grow up has delighted generations of readers. In this novel, which Barrie adapted from his 1904 play, Peter introduces Wendy, Michael, and John Darling to the fairy Tinker Bell and the lost boys. Together, they do battle with Captain Hook and his fierce band of pirates. THE THREE MUSKETEERS Alexandre Dumas First published in 1844, Alexandre Dumas’s swashbuckling epic chronicles the adventures of D’Artagnan, a gallant young nobleman who journeys to Paris in 1625 hoping to join the ranks of the musketeers guarding Louis XIII. He soon finds himself fighting alongside three heroic comrades—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—who seek to uphold the honor of the king by foiling the wicked plots of Cardinal Richelieu and the beautiful spy “Milady.”
