Book The Iron Blast Furnace

Download or read book The Iron Blast Furnace written by J. G. Peacey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iron Blast Furnace: Theory and Practice presents theoretical, experimental, and operational evidence about the iron blast furnace as well as a mathematical description of its operation. This book includes a set of equations that accurately describe stoichiometric and enthalpy balances for the process and which are consistent with observed temperatures and compositions in the furnace stack. These equations, which have been devised on the basis of the Rist approach, show the effects of altering any blast-furnace variable on the other operating requirements of the process. This monograph is comprised of 14 chapters and begins with a brief description of the blast-furnace process. The next chapter takes a look inside the furnace, paying particular attention to its behavior in front of the tuyères and the kinetics of the coke gasification reaction. The reader is then introduced to the thermodynamics and stoichiometry of the blast-furnace process; enthalpy balance for the bottom segment of the furnace; the effects of tuyères injectants on blast-furnace operations; and blast-furnace optimization by linear programming. A number of important variables covered by the equations are discussed, including hydrocarbon injection at the tuyères, oxygen enrichment of the blast, moisture, limestone decomposition, coke reactivity, and metalloid reduction. The effects of many of these variables are illustrated numerically in the text while others are demonstrated in sets of problems that follow each chapter. This text will be a valuable resource for metallurgists and materials scientists.

Book Advanced Pulverized Coal Injection Technology and Blast Furnace Operation

Download or read book Advanced Pulverized Coal Injection Technology and Blast Furnace Operation written by K. Ishii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-11-10 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to reduce the cost of running blast furnaces (BFs), injected pulverized coal is used rather than coke to fire BFs. As a result of this, unburned fine materials are blown with the gas into the bosh and dead man areas with possible detrimental effects on gas flow and permeability of the coke column. The capacity of the furnace to consume these particles by solution loss is probably one of the limitations to coal injection. It is, therefore, important to understand the physicochemical and aerodynamic behaviour of fines including the change of in-furnace phenomena. The Committee of Pulverized Coal Combustion and In-Furnace Reaction in BF was set up in 1993 as a cooperative research of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Iron and Steel Institute (ISIJ) to evaluate research initiative into this problem. This book reports on the JSPS/ISIJ Committee's activities and describes the interpretation of findings drawn from combustion experiments and the results of live furnace applications, and furnace performance.

Book Gasification for Practical Applications

Download or read book Gasification for Practical Applications written by Yongseung Yun and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there were many books and papers that deal with gasification, there has been only a few practical book explaining the technology in actual application and the market situation in reality. Gasification is a key technology in converting coal, biomass, and wastes to useful high-value products. Until renewable energy can provide affordable energy hopefully by the year 2030, gasification can bridge the transition period by providing the clean liquid fuels, gas, and chemicals from the low grade feedstock. Gasification still needs many upgrades and technology breakthroughs. It remains in the niche market, not fully competitive in the major market of electricity generation, chemicals, and liquid fuels that are supplied from relatively cheap fossil fuels. The book provides the practical information for researchers and graduate students who want to review the current situation, to upgrade, and to bring in a new idea to the conventional gasification technologies.

Book excerpt: Coke: Quality and Production describes the scientific and technical basis of coke manufacture and provides a detailed account of the physical and chemical mechanisms occurring in coke oven chambers. Emphasis is on the influences of coal quality and production parameters. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with an introduction to technical characteristics displayed by coals or cokes, followed by a discussion on the chemical, physicochemical, and mechanical phenomena that occur during carbonization. The following chapters focus on carbonization in a coke oven chamber and its relationship to coke quality; the criteria used to evaluate coke quality; and industrial and semi-industrial tests carried out at the Marienau Station in France. The formulation of coke oven blends is also considered, along with the production factors that affect the quality of coke; factors that affect the production capacity of a coke oven battery; and heat balances on industrial coking plants. The final chapter looks at the industrial applications of blast-furnace coke and foundry coke. This monograph is intended primarily for technical personnel at coking plants and will also be of interest to consumers concerned with the working properties of coke.

Book Modern Blast Furnace Ironmaking

Download or read book Modern Blast Furnace Ironmaking written by M. Geerdes and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the blast furnace process for operators. As a starting point, the blast furnace is seen as a simple iron ore melter, while gradually the physical, chemical and metallurgical background is clarified. Operational observations, challenges and remedies are explained from this perspective. Optimization of the blast furnace process is not only based on “best practice transfer”, but also requires conceptual understanding of what works when. In other words: operational improvement is not only based on know–how, but on know–why as well. With Modern Blast Furnace Ironmaking – An Introduction (Third Edition, 2015) the reader has a compact compendium of the blast furnace process available: by operators and for operators and for those who are preparing to become operators.

Book Coke Oven Techniques

Download or read book Coke Oven Techniques written by CEC, DG for Energy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing scale and intensity of modern blast-furnace operation, combined with a simultaneous reduction in coke rate, have led to more stringent coke quality requirements with a greater emphasis on the coke's (1 2) role as a burden spacer ' • Accordingly, coke quality data limited to chemical composition, initial size grading and ambient size stability are insufficient to predict the coke's behaviour in use. A realistic assess ment of the likely performance of coke should also take into consideration its resistance to degradation in the chemical and thermal environment of the blast furnace. A test is, therefore, needed which simulates as far as possible the mechanical, chemical and thermal conditions of the smelting process and measures the resultant changes in size distribution of the coke, and hence in its bulk permeability to gas flow, using representative samples of the feed coke as charged to the furnace. Moreover, new developments in coke production make it necessary to reassess coke testing so as to guide the coke producer in making the best use of available coals. The mode of mechanical coke breakage at ambient temperature has been extensively characterised and related to changes in the coke's bulk permeability(3). In contrast, the causes of deterioration in the hot strength and size of bulk coke arising from its partial gasification with carbon dioxide and reheating to high temperature are relatively less explored. The present paper describes the v.

Book Mathematical Modeling of the Blast Furnace Process

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling of the Blast Furnace Process written by Andrey Dmitriev and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of extensive research on the mathematical modelling of the blast furnace process. It describes the mathematical models utilised, providing insights into two-dimensional models of gas dynamics, heat transfer and reduction, the cohesion zone, and the balance equilibrium model. On the basis of these models, it details a method for the analytical study of the blast-furnace process, which essentially complements the experimental methods used in practice. Examples of the solution of practical problems of blast furnace smelting are also provided, and the mathematical models highlighted here can be used in research and design institutes, at metallurgical enterprises and for higher education institutions in the training of students in metallurgical specialties.

Book Char Formation Transportation and Consumption in the Blast Furnace and Its Impact on Coke Rate Charfoco

Download or read book Char Formation Transportation and Consumption in the Blast Furnace and Its Impact on Coke Rate Charfoco written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, blast furnace coal injection research mainly focused on combustion of injection coal in the raceway. However, it could be assumed that coal is anyway not able to fully combust, particularly at high injection rates, and unburnt residues leave the raceway as char. The char evolution and subsequent consumption depends on the raceway characteristics, which depend on coal conversion. Both groups of factors were investigated with conversion tests, as well as raceway measurements. Generally, the char evolution is seen to manifest itself as a negative impact, but this may depend on the blast furnace conditions and injection coal characteristics. Char effects might deteriorate the blast furnace operation and stability (i.e. lower burden permeability or higher carbon losses in the flue dust). Nonetheless, char could also be advantageous by contributing toward the increase in coke reactivity thereby lowering the thermal reserve zone temperature. It was shown that the coal combustion highly depends on coal grain size and only marginally on oxygen enrichment. Effects of oxygen enrichment on maximum coal injection rate might be more related to char consumption, rather than coal conversion. Despite low conversion of granular coal under blast furnace raceway simulation conditions, granular coal injection is possible at high rates, obviously due to its consumption outside the raceway. Blast furnace operation experience with coals, like operational benefits or transport behaviour could be confirmed. Char impact on ferrous burden behaviour highly depends on temperature and gas composition and is difficult to predict from the performed tests. Several raceway measurement techniques were successfully developed and applied at pilot scale and at a real blast furnace. Raceway size, temperature and changes in the gas composition could be shown. The raceway size depends on the location of the tuyère in relation to blast inlet and tap hole and changes significantly over time, indicating raceway collapses. Gas and temperature measurements of the BF interior were performed: New insights regarding the impact of high coal injection rates on the blast furnace inner state were gained by gas and temperature measurements of the blast furnace inside and confirmed with mathematical modelling.
