The results of the third study are limited to the two personal traits and excluded psychological traits. Hence, this book is a continuing result of the previous three research studies. With the rapid development of information systems, libraries try to provide wider information opportunities for the users through ever-growing innovative services and informative resources. Contemporary, academic programs and the method of teaching in universities, as well as the choice of information of students, are also being changed. Though there are wider learning opportunities at a glance, it is uncertain whether the students are achieving the required learning outcome through their process of seeking information from libraries. Therefore, it is imperative to comprehend whether and how library users obtain comfortable experiences or difficulties in library use when designing library systems. Study of users' behavior directed towards the cognitive context is analyzed and explained by this study. Analyzing the cognitive context of library users is vital to understand how libraries are being used and what kinds of patterns they constitute. Human information interaction (HII) is an emerging area of study that investigates how people interact with information; its subfield human information behavior (HIB) is a flourishing, active discipline. Yet despite their obvious relevance to the design of information systems, these research areas have had almost no impact on systems design. One issue may be the contextual complexity of human interaction with information; another may be the difficulty in translating real-life and unstructured HII complexity into formal, linear structures necessary for systems design. In this book, Raya Fidel proposes a research approach that bridges the study of human information interaction and the design of information systems: cognitive work analysis (CWA). Developed by Jens Rasmussen and his colleagues, CWA embraces complexity and provides a conceptual framework and analytical tools that can harness it to create design requirements. CWA offers an ecological approach to design, analyzing the forces in the environment that shape human interaction with information. Fidel reviews research in HIB, focusing on its contribution to systems design, and then presents the CWA framework. She shows that CWA, with its ecological approach, can be used to overcome design challenges and lead to the development of effective systems. Researchers and designers who use CWA can increase the diversity of their analytical tools, providing them with an alternative approach when they plan research and design projects. The CWA framework enables a collaboration between design and HII that can create information systems tailored to fit human lives.

This research topic aims to gather papers that investigate the socioeconomic, attitudinal, and behavioural factors affecting the health status and happiness/life satisfaction of older adults in Asia. The dependent variables may include physical health, mental health, disability (ADL/IADL), cognitive functioning), self-rated health, health expenditure, feeling of happiness and life satisfaction. The independent variables may be age, gender, marital status, place of residence, educational level, active engagement (work, exercise, social and religious activities), family and social relationship and support, outlook in life, smoking, drinking, and access to and utilization of healthcare services, etc. Manuscripts can be based on individual countries or cross-country analysis, preferably using the panel data to establish the causal effects of the independent variables on the dependent variables.

This volume identifies the key scientific advances and the opportunities they bring. For example, science has learned that among older adults who do not suffer from Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, cognitive decline may depend less on loss of brain cells than on changes in the health of neurons and neural networks. Research on the processes that maintain neural health shows promise of revealing new ways to promote cognitive functioning in older people. Research is also showing how cognitive functioning depends on the conjunction of biology and culture. The ways older people adapt to changes in their nervous systems, and perhaps the changes themselves, are shaped by past life experiences, present living situations, changing motives, cultural expectations, and emerging technology, as well as by their physical health status and sensory-motor capabilities. Improved understanding of how physical and contextual factors interact can help explain why some cognitive functions are impaired in aging while others are spared and why cognitive capability is impaired in some older adults and spared in others. On the basis of these exciting findings, the report makes specific recommends that the U.S. government support three major new initiatives as the next steps for research.
