Book ADB Through the Decades ADB s Fifth Decade 2007 2016

Download or read book ADB Through the Decades ADB s Fifth Decade 2007 2016 written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia proved resilient to the effects of the 2008-2009 global financial crisis, but sustaining rapid growth became more difficult afterward. Development challenges intensified, the global development agenda became more ambitious, and new sources of development finance emerged. This volume shows how the Asian Development Bank (ADB) continued to reform in order to meet these challenges. A new long-term strategic framework, Strategy 2020, was launched in 2008, to respond to the changing needs of the region. A midterm review of Strategy 2020 was released in 2014, further refining and adjusting priorities in order for ADB to remain relevant and responsive to borrowers. Various organizational changes were introduced, internal business processes were improved, and several new instruments were adopted as part of ADB's efforts to become "stronger, better, faster." ADB's lending capacity expanded significantly, with the fifth general capital increase in 2009, followed by the unique and groundbreaking combination of the Asian Development Fund portfolio with the ordinary capital resources balance sheet approved in 2015. Lending reached record levels in 2015 and 2016, exceeding the earlier spike in 2009 when ADB had responded to the needs of countries affected by the global economic crisis. ADB also enhanced its accountability and results orientation, becoming the first multilateral development bank to adopt a corporate results framework in 2008.

Book Co Financing Hollywood Film Productions with Outside Investors

Download or read book Co Financing Hollywood Film Productions with Outside Investors written by Kay H. Hofmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, investors from outside the motion picture industry have increasingly supplied equity to U.S. film productions. Today, these so-called co-financing arrangements are a common phenomenon in Hollywood. While the large studios usually carry out the operative tasks of movie production and distribution, the financiers as co-owners of the completed films have rights to the residual profits. Kay H. Hofmann analyzes the conflicts of interest and the organizational problems that may arise between the experienced major studios and investors with comparably low industry expertise. Guided by principal agent theory, the empirical analysis provides evidence for adverse selection and multiple aspects of moral hazard during production as well as distribution. Based on these findings, the author develops solutions that are not only relevant for current and future investors but also for studios and film producers who rely on the long-term availability of external funds.

Download or read book The World Bank written by Devesh Kapur and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This effort constitutes the most comprehensive and authoritative work to date on the history of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, or the World Bank. Author-editors John Lewis, Richard Webb, and Devesh Kapur chronicle the evolution of this institution and offer insights into its successes, failures, and prospects for the future. The result of their intense labors is an invaluable resource for other researchers and a fascinating study in its own right. The work is divided into two volumes. The first is organized thematically and examines the critical events and policy issues in the World Bank's development over the last fifty years. Chapter topics include poverty alleviation, structural adjustment lending, environmental programs, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the International Development Association (IDA), and the evolution of the Bank as an institution. The second volume contains case studies written by experts with experience in the various regions in which the Bank operates. There are chapters on the Bank's activities in Korea, Mexico, Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe. Volume 2 also contains essays on the World Bank's relationship with the United States, Japan, and Western Europe, and its partnership with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). By special arrangement, the authors have had wide-ranging access to confidential documents at the World Bank, making this work a unique source of information on the internal workings of this critical institution. They have also drawn on extensive interviews with current and past Bank officials. Moreover, publication could not be more timely, coming as it does when many in the development community and in the U.S. Congress are questioning the Bank's track record and even its reason for existence. The World Bank: Its First Half Century will be of great interest not only to development practitioners but also to students of international relations, development economics, and global finance. During the course of the project, John P. Lewis and Richard Webb were nonresident senior fellows, and Devesh Kapur was a program associate, in the Foreign Policy Studies program at the Brookings Institution.
