Siguiendo en muchos momentos los sutilísimos conceptos de Basil Bernstein, Arnot se adentra en el análisis de la construcción de unas personalidades masculinas y femeninas aún fuertemente dependientes de las posiciones de clase y de género, aún alejadas, en este momento, de las capacidades que exigirá la construcción de una ciudadanía global que ella ve, sobre todo, como una nueva ética global. Madeleine Arnot, una vez más, se sitúa un paso más allá de los debates del momento para describir con gran exactitud el paisaje que está a la vuelta de la esquina y apuntar, al mismo tiempo, la posibilidad de unas soluciones basadas en la extraordinaria riqueza de una cultura tradicional femenina aún medio escondida entre los andrajos de Cenicienta, y que, sin la intervención de un hada madrina que actúe bajo la forma de un movimiento potente de mujeres, parece imposible que nadie la invite a la fiesta de la globalización.
