Book excerpt: During WWII and throughout history, military units have needed to disguise their discussions about military assets. They developed a coded language designed to confuse the enemy if overheard or referenced on a map or other document. This book contains all the CODE NAMES and their respective UNIT DESIGNATIONS for the First U.S. Army for 1944. For history buffs and WWII enthusiasts a lot of material from this era uses coded messages without clues as to what or who they are referencing. In this book are the CODE NAMES for SHAEF, General of the Army Eisenhower down through the entire organizational structure to the unit level. Dedicated to our greatest generation, those who have served honorably in the U.S. military and to the preservation of history.

Book Efficiency Finance and Varieties of Industrial Policy

Download or read book Efficiency Finance and Varieties of Industrial Policy written by Akbar Noman and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial policy, once relegated to resource allocation, technological improvements, and the modernization of industries, should be treated as a serious component of sustainability and developmental economics. A rich set of complimentary institutions, shared behavioral norms, and public policies have sustained economic growth from Britain's industrial revolution onwards. This volume revisits the role of industrial policy in the success of these strategies and what it can offer developed and developing economies today. Featuring essays from experts invested in the expansion of industrial policies, topics discussed include the most effective use of industrial policies in learning economies, development finance, and promoting investment in regional and global contexts. Also included are in-depth case studies of Japan and India's experience with industrial policy in the banking and private sector. One essay revisits the theoretical and conceptual foundations of industrial policy from a structural economics perspective and another describes the models, packages, and transformation cycles that constitute a variety of approaches to implementation. The collection concludes with industrial strategies for facilitating quality growth, realizing more sustainable manufacturing development, and encouraging countries to industrialize around their natural resources.

Book Ethics in Banking

Download or read book Ethics in Banking written by Jes Villa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-22 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solution to the uninhibited lending that was commonplace before the financial crisis has been to introduce tighter regulation to ensure robustness within banks. However, this solution has overlooked the underlying problem of ethical failure in the industry. In the wake of numerous bank collapses, many survivors continue in unprincipled conduct because ethical virtues have not been instilled. This book investigates the ethical basis of banking practice. It explores the conflict between the interests of banks and their customers, and how this conflict plays out in relation to the lending policies and fee structures of banks. Where such lending policies have a significant effect on banks, their customers and a range of stakeholders, the author investigates the views of leading bankers on their lending practices. The author then goes on to debate the events of the global financial crisis from a moral perspective, and argues that ethical failure triggered the American sub-prime calamities which have devastated homeowners and the global economy. The book argues that American banks and regulators both operated on the erroneous supposition that the quest after extreme profits would be restrained by free market forces. Where banks have a central role and importance in all commerce and hence in all societies, the author concludes by revealing a set of virtues that are necessary for banks to espouse moral conduct. He suggests that these virtues can be embedded through leadership and cultural change, with the aim of developing an account of the virtues appropriate to bankers and banking.

Book Towards a Socioanalysis of Money Finance and Capitalism

Download or read book Towards a Socioanalysis of Money Finance and Capitalism written by Susan Long and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses the discipline of socio-analysis to explore the meaning of money, markets and the broad financial world that so strongly affects our daily lives. The insight that the financial crisis ‘was essentially psychological in origin’ (Robert Shiller) and that the world of finance is broadly shaped if not determined by irrational often unconscious factors is not yet broadly shared. This book appears to be one of the first, if not the first contribution that explicitly focuses on what is beneath the surface of money, finance and capital. It invites the reader to explore the financial world in depth.
