Book Plankton Stratigraphy Volume 1 Planktic Foraminifera Calcareous Nannofossils and Calpionellids

Download or read book Plankton Stratigraphy Volume 1 Planktic Foraminifera Calcareous Nannofossils and Calpionellids written by Hans M. Bolli and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1989-05-25 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive synthesis of our knowledge of the biostratigraphy of marine plankton is the work of an international team of eighteen authors. It covers all the major fossil groups that can be used to date sediments and rocks in the time interval Late Mesozoic to Holocene. Altogether more than 3200 taxa are considered, almost all of which are illustrated and depicted on range charts, making the book a valuable work of reference in the earth sciences. For ease of reference by specialists interested in either calcareous or non-calcareous microfossils, the original work is now divided into two independent volumes. Volume I covers the calcareous microfossils and includes planktic foraminifers, calcareous nannofossils and calpionellids.

Book The Micropalaeontology of Oceans

Download or read book The Micropalaeontology of Oceans written by B. M. Funnell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1971-06-02 with total page 842 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1971 volume presents the proceedings of a Symposium of Micropalaeontology of Marine Bottom Sediments held in Cambridge, England, in September 1967. The collection and paleontological interpretations of deep-sea sediments had only been carried out intensively for the twenty years preceding the book's publication, and it provides a summary of the state of knowledge in this field as it stood. Beginning with a consideration of the organisms in relation to the water in which they live, successive chapters deal with the descent of the skeletons to the sea floor, their entombment in the sediments and their interpretation to elucidate the history of the oceans. It is written by many of the specialists responsible for the development of this field and includes numerous Russian contributions. This book became the definitive compendium for students and workers in oceanography and palaeontology, and is still a useful resource today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to recent developments in automated stratigraphic correlation of fossil data, using computer programs for ranking and scaling of stratigraphic events. Mainframes or microcomputers can be used to aid the stratigrapher during data inventory for a region or time period, for construction of a biozonation based on stratigraphic events, (such as the latest appearance datum of a fossil species), and for automated correlation. The book is intended for advanced geology students, research workers and teachers with a background in stratigraphy and an interest in using computer-based techniques for problem-solving.

Book Handbook of Environmental Data and Ecological Parameters

Download or read book Handbook of Environmental Data and Ecological Parameters written by S. E. Jørgensen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 1209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Sciences and Applications, Volume 6: Handbook of Environmental Data and Ecological Parameters presents the biological effects of chemical compounds and the physical environment. This book provides a list of the most important compounds from an environmental point of view. Organized into seven parts, this volume begins with an overview of the living organisms in the natural environment. This text then explores the ecosphere, including the element cycles and general properties of chemical compound in the ecosphere. Other parts consider the biological half life time of various chemical compounds and present the toxicological data of specific importance to environmental problems. This book discusses as well the chemical compounds that are related to species. The final part deals with the dynamics of environment and contains equilibrium data, which is often the point of departure for a dynamical description. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, biologists, ecologists, scientists, and research workers.

Book Cenozoic Foraminifera and Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy of the Niger Delta

Download or read book Cenozoic Foraminifera and Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy of the Niger Delta written by Oluwafeyisola Sylvester Adegoke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cenozoic Foraminifera and Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy of the Niger Delta is available just as exploration and production activities are moving into the little known deep water terrain of the Niger Delta. A thorough understanding of the Cenozoic Niger Delta will improve understanding and exploration of the evolution of deeper offshore belts, help researchers strengthen and refine existing Neogene nannofossil biostratigraphic schemes for the Niger Delta region, and gain a better understanding of the relationship between nannofossil assemblage variations and paleoenvironments. The hydrocarbon reserves of the Niger Delta are an extremely valuable natural resource. Biostratigraphy and Correlation play important roles in the discovery, development and maturing of hydrocarbon fields. Calcareous nannofossils have been important tools for the stratigraphers in the Niger Delta and in recent years exploration has moved into deeper offshore areas where nannofossils are more abundant and diverse. Little has been published about the calcareous nannofossil chronostratigraphy of the Niger delta. Cenozoic Foraminifera and Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy of the Niger Delta fills the gap for earth scientists and those working in the oil and gas industry. - Showcases the phylogenetic relationships of some of the principal Niger Delta marker species and their biostratigraphic and biochronologic significance - Features photographs of index benthonic foraminifera and their equivalent planktonic datums as well as environmentally sensitive species used in paleobathymetric reconstruction - Includes information and research that has, until now, been in the private archives of operational companies - Companion website features 20+ full color stratigraphic charts and maps

Book The Northern North Atlantic

    Book Details:
  • Author : Priska Schäfer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642568769

Download or read book The Northern North Atlantic written by Priska Schäfer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The northern North Atlantic is one of the regions most sensitive to past and present global changes. This book integrates the results of an interdisciplinary project studying the properties of the Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian Seas and the processes of pelagic and benthic particle formation, particle transport, and deposition in the deep-sea sediments. Ice-related and biogeochemical processes have been investigated to decipher the spatial and temporal variability of the production and fate of organic carbon in this region. Isotopic stratigraphy, microfossil assemblages and paleotemperatures are combined to reconstruct paleoceanographic conditions and to model past climatic changes in the Late Quaternary. The Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian Seas can now be considered one of the best studied subbasins of the world`s oceans.

Book Tectonic Evolution of the Eastern Black Sea and Caucasus

This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifteen chapters included in this volume are concerned with the main issues in the Eastern Black sea and Caucasus regions of the Alpine–Tethyan orogenic realm, which are: (1) the changes in space and time of geodynamic processes responsible for the closure of the northern branch of the Neotethys Ocean and how these changes are related to the opening and inversion of back-arc basins; (2) the northwestern terminus of the Eastern Black sea rift; (3) timing and evolution of inverted and foreland basins; (4) the continuity of structures and their evolution in time between the Eastern Black Sea, the Greater Caucasus, the Lesser Caucasus and those of the Taurides–Anatolides– Pontides belt and of NW Iran; and (5) Paratethys evolution since the Eocene in this belt. The papers included in this volume present new results obtained mostly by projects supported by the DARIUS programme.

Book Geological Evolution of the Mediterranean Basin

Download or read book Geological Evolution of the Mediterranean Basin written by Daniel J. Stanley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mediterranean Sea, nestled between Africa, southern Europe, and the Middle East, may be envisioned as a complex picture-puzzle comprising numerous intricate pieces, many of which are already in place. A general image, in terms of science, has emerged, although at this time large gaps are noted and some areas of the picture remain fuzzy and indistinct. In recent years this fascinating, mind-teasing puzzle image has become clearer with individual pieces more easily recognized and rapidly emplaced, largely by means of multidisciplinary and multinational team efforts. In this respect, the Special Program Panel on Marine Sciences of the NATO Scientific Af fairs Division considered the merits of initiating four conferences bearing on the Mediterranean ecosystem. It was suggested that the first, emphasizing geology, should dovetail with subsequent seminars on physical oceanogra phy, marine biology, and ecology and man's influence on the natural Medi terranean regime. At a conference held in Banyuls-sur-Mer, France, in August 1979, Profes sor Raimondo Selli was urged by some panel members to initiate an Ad vanced Research Institute (ARI) that would focus primarily on the geologi cally recent evolution of the Mediterranean Sea and serve as a logical base for future NATO conferences on the Mediterranean.
