Book Arguing a Case for Cobb Douglas Production Function

Download or read book Arguing a Case for Cobb Douglas Production Function written by K. V. Bhanu Murthy and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper argues that Cobb-Douglas (CD) production function merits use for analyzing the production process, not because it should be looked upon as a simple tool which can be handled easily or as a crude remedy for estimation, but because of the advantages it possesses. These advantages are due to the fact that it can handle multiple inputs in its generalized form. Even in the face of imperfections in the market, it does not introduce distortions of its own. Unconstrained CD-function further increases its potentialities to handle different scales of production. Various econometric estimation problems, such as serial correlation, heteroscidasticity and multicolinearity can be handled adequately and easily. It is argued that most of its criticism is focussed on its inflexibility and admits that except for one obvious assumptions all other assumptions can be relaxed. It is further argued that it facilitates computations and has the properties of explicit representability, uniformity, parsimony and flexibility. Even the problem of simultaneity can be overcome. The paper argues that aggregate technology can also be well represented by it.

Book Production Function

Download or read book Production Function written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2024-02-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Production Function The production function is a concept in economics that describes the technological relationship that exists between the quantities of physical inputs and the quantities of things that are produced. When it comes to standard neoclassical ideas, the production function is one of the most important notions. It is utilized to define marginal product and to differentiate allocative efficiency, which is a very important aspect of economics. As an engineer or a professional manager might understand it, one of the most important purposes of the production function is to address allocative efficiency in the use of factor inputs in production and the resulting distribution of income to those factors. This is accomplished while abstracting away from the technological problems that arise in the process of achieving technical efficiency. How you will benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Production function Chapter 2: Physical capital Chapter 3: Growth accounting Chapter 4: Marginal cost Chapter 5: Cobb-Douglas production function Chapter 6: Marginal product Chapter 7: Diminishing returns Chapter 8: Output (economics) Chapter 9: Returns to scale Chapter 10: Cost curve Chapter 11: Solow-Swan model Chapter 12: Total cost Chapter 13: Constant elasticity of substitution Chapter 14: Supply (economics) Chapter 15: Production (economics) Chapter 16: Marginal product of capital Chapter 17: Productivity Chapter 18: Marginal product of labor Chapter 19: AK model Chapter 20: Technological theory of social production Chapter 21: Cambridge capital controversy (II) Answering the public top questions about production function. Book Production Economics An Empirical Approach

Download or read book Production Economics An Empirical Approach written by Charles Britt Moss and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production economics is that branch of microeconomics that examines producer decisions. This book focuses on the empirical estimation of these relationships using primal, dual, and differential specifications. The primal specification models production decisions based on the production function — estimation of the input/output relationship and the derivation of optimization behavior from this technical relationship. The dual approach estimates production decisions using economic information such as input and output prices. The textbook then develops the linkages between these relationships. The differential specification is an alternative approach derived from changes in the first-order conditions from cost minimizing behavior. In each case, the theoretical development is followed by different empirical specifications that can be used to estimate the producer's choice.

Book An Extended Cobb Douglas Form for Use in Production Economics

Download or read book An Extended Cobb Douglas Form for Use in Production Economics written by Abraham Charnes and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cobb-Douglas function is widely used in production economics in the following form: A = AL sub alpha K sub beta, where alpha and beta along with A are positive constants that relate the inputs L (=Labor) and K (=Capital) to the amount of output Q.A variety of supposed alternatives and generalizations have been suggested in place of the Cobb-Douglas form for use in production economics. These alternatives and generalizations are here shown to be representable in an extended Cobb-Douglas form in which A, alpha and beta are functions of L an K rather than constants. This extension is then formally related to other general forms, such as the minimum discrimination information statistics, and used to explain the successful uses of the Cobb-Douglas function for the empirical applications in many different countries and contexts. Keywords: Production function; Aggregation; Homogenous functions.
