This book was released on 2022-11-05 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the diverse array of particles that are found in coatings from both a physical and a performance standpoint. It also describes the fundamentals of particle behavior and shows how these affect the performance and properties of their end-use applications. It consists of nineteen chapters, demonstrating the wide range of types of particles found in coatings as well as the diversity of the important attributes they hold. The authors also present a forward looking view of current issues and trends in the coatings industry. In addition, a chapter on the use of particles in paper laminate, a closely aligned field, is included. This book is of interest to formulators of any type of coatings as well as researchers in aligned fields that use high volumes of small particles, such as the plastics and paper industries.

Book Fluidized bed Coating with Plastics

Download or read book Fluidized bed Coating with Plastics written by Plastics Technical Evaluation Center (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report on the relatively new field of fluidized-bed coating with plastics is intended to give military agencies and contractors a good idea of the possibilities and limitations of the technique. In the normal use of the process a metal part is heated to a temperature somewhat higher than the melting point of the resin powder with which it is to be coated. Upon immersion of the preheated metal part into a bed or bath of resin powder, usually kept at room temperature and fluidized by a current of air, the powder particles are fused onto the surface of the part. Postheating may or may not be necessary to smooth and/or cure the coating. This report has detailed information on 139 references, including 39 foreign and American patents. (Author).

Book Plastics and Coatings

Download or read book Plastics and Coatings written by Rose A. Ryntz and published by Hanser Gardner Publications. This book was released on 2001 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive overview of the durability of coatings and plastics, such as their chemical, photooxidation, moisture, heat, and solvent resistance. The scope ranges from predicting the service life performance of coatings and plastics to actual quantification of mechanical and physical manifestations of degradation. Stabilization mechanisms such as the role of pigments and light stabilizers are discussed as are the influence of processing conditions on residual stress and adhesion. This book serves as an authoritative guide for practitioners in the plastics arena for use in material selection. Plastics are an increasing part of our way-of-life, and those who learn to properly utilize plastics, from concept design through end-of-life recycling, will gain a competitive advantage in the global marketplace. "...a good value, and I recommend it to everyone in the plastics and protective coatings business." D. Wiles in Polymer News

Book Fluorinated Coatings and Finishes Handbook

Download or read book Fluorinated Coatings and Finishes Handbook written by Laurence W. McKeen and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2015-10-11 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluorinated Coatings and Finishes Handbook: The Definitive User's Guide, Second Edition, addresses important, frequently posed questions by end-user design engineers, coaters, and coatings suppliers on fluorinated coatings and finishes, thus enabling them to achieve superior product qualities and shorter product and process development times. The book provides broad coverage of these fluorinated polymer coatings, including the best known PTFE, polytetrafluoroethylene, first trademarked as Teflon® and ePTFE (GoreTex®). Their inherent qualities of low surface tension, non-stick, low friction, high melting point, and chemical inertness make fluoropolymer coatings widely desirable across thousands of industrial and consumer applications, but these properties also make it difficult to convert fluoropolymers to coatings that have sufficient adhesion to the substrate to be protected. In this book, readers learn how fluoropolymer coatings are used and made, about their pigments and fillers, binders, dispersion processes, additives, and solvents. The book includes substrate preparation, coating properties, baking and curing processes, performance tests, applications, and health and safety. Provides a practical handbook that covers the theory and practice of fluorinated coatings, including the structure and properties of binders and how to get a non-stick coating to stick to the substrate Covers liquid and power fluorocoatings, their applications methods, curing and baking processes, and their commercial end uses Presents detailed discussions of testing methods related to fluorocoatings, common coating defects, how they form, how to eliminate them, and the health and safety aspects of using and applying fluorocoatings Includes substrate preparation, coating properties, baking and curing processes, performance tests, applications, and health and safety

Book Service Life Prediction of Polymers and Coatings

Download or read book Service Life Prediction of Polymers and Coatings written by Christopher White and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Service Life Prediction of Polymers and Coatings: Enhanced Methods focuses on the cutting-edge science behind how plastic and polymer materials are modified by the effects of weathering, offering the latest advances in service life prediction methods. The chapters have been developed by experts based on their contributions as part of the 7th Service Life Prediction Meeting. The volume begins with the premise that it is possible to produce and design life predictions, also looking at how these predictions can be used. Subsequent chapters present new developments in service life prediction, examining the most important considerations in SLP design, timescales, and other major issues. The book also considers the current state of the field in terms of both accomplishments and areas that require significant research going forward. This is a highly valuable reference for engineers, designers, technicians, scientists and R&D professionals who are looking to develop materials, components or products for outdoor applications across a range of industries. The book also supports academic researchers, scientists and advanced students with an interest in service life, the effects of weathering, material degradation, failure analysis, or sustainability across the fields of plastics engineering, polymer science and materials science. Presents novel prediction techniques for plastics and polymers exposed to outdoor weathering Provides a consensus roadmap on the scientific barriers related to a validated, predictive model for the response of polymer and plastics to outdoor exposure Enables the reader to assess and compare different methods and approaches to service life prediction
