Download or read book Co operation and Co operatives in 21st Century Europe written by Julian Manley and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2023-10-27 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores where, how and why the cooperative model is having a distinctive, transformational impact in driving socio-economic changes in a post-pandemic 21st century world. Drawing from a diverse range of examples, the book sheds light on how today’s cooperatives and a co-operative way of organising might serve new societal demands. It examines organisational structures and governance models that develop socio-economic resilience in cooperatives. The book’s contributors reveal how the very pursuit of cooperative values and principles challenges market fundamentalism and promotes participatory democracy. This is a timely contribution to recent debates around transformative economies and an invaluable resource for scholars and activists interested in alternative ways of organising.

Book Co operative Principles and Co operative Law 2nd edition

This book was released on 2015 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a revised second edition of a "classic" on co-operative law, which has been translated into more than 20 languages. The book integrates an analysis of the 1995 Statement of the Co-operative Identity of the International Co-operative Alliance and the impact of political, economic, and social changes over the past 40 years. The original pattern of the book remains unchanged: Two questions are answered for each of the identified principles: What is the meaning of this co-operative principle? How is this principle translated into co-operative legislation? In this newest edition, two additional questions are discussed and answered for each of the chapters: What are the new development trends and what are the new rules in co-operative legislation? (Series: Economy: Research and Science / Wirtschaft: Forschung und Wissenschaft - Vol. 34) [Subject: Co-operative Law]

Book Cooperatives and Local Development

Download or read book Cooperatives and Local Development written by Christopher D. Merrett and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2004. The market economy has changed profoundly over the past two centuries. In the nineteenth century, business enterprises were largely single-product ventures, managed directly by the owners and rooted within national economies. In the twentieth century, firms employed managers who were not owners. Firms also evolved into multiproduct, multiunit entities that could employ thousands of workers. In the twenty-first century, many firms operate on a global scale, taking advantage of free trade policies and rapidly evolving computer and telecommunications technologies. Given this potential, it is crucial that producers, consumers, economic developers, and researchers realize how co-ops can promote local economic and community development. Hence, this book includes the perceptions of experts on a variety of cooperative issues, including the challenges involved in starting a co-op and in understanding its impact on surrounding communities. This book can be especially useful because it provides the theoretical foundations and practical applications of cooperative behavior.

  • Author : Jessica Gordon Nembhard
  • Publisher : Penn State Press
  • Release : 2015-06-13
  • ISBN : 0271064269

Download or read book Collective Courage written by Jessica Gordon Nembhard and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2015-06-13 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Collective Courage, Jessica Gordon Nembhard chronicles African American cooperative business ownership and its place in the movements for Black civil rights and economic equality. Not since W. E. B. Du Bois’s 1907 Economic Co-operation Among Negro Americans has there been a full-length, nationwide study of African American cooperatives. Collective Courage extends that story into the twenty-first century. Many of the players are well known in the history of the African American experience: Du Bois, A. Philip Randolph and the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Jo Baker, George Schuyler and the Young Negroes’ Co-operative League, the Nation of Islam, and the Black Panther Party. Adding the cooperative movement to Black history results in a retelling of the African American experience, with an increased understanding of African American collective economic agency and grassroots economic organizing. To tell the story, Gordon Nembhard uses a variety of newspapers, period magazines, and journals; co-ops’ articles of incorporation, minutes from annual meetings, newsletters, budgets, and income statements; and scholarly books, memoirs, and biographies. These sources reveal the achievements and challenges of Black co-ops, collective economic action, and social entrepreneurship. Gordon Nembhard finds that African Americans, as well as other people of color and low-income people, have benefitted greatly from cooperative ownership and democratic economic participation throughout the nation’s history.

Book Cooperative Strategy for the 21st Century

Download or read book Cooperative Strategy for the 21st Century written by Francisco J. Garrido and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-19 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This could be just another book about strategy, but it’s specifically about cooperative strategy. It is a unique book and an essential guide for every executive, CEO and manager who wants to successfully lead their company in the 21st century. Every university professor of economics, management, strategy or decision making must read it, apply it and teach it to their students: only this way will we save companies from being directed by those who only know about conflicts and competition. In the words of the Secretary General of the OAS (2023), facing the present and the future “we can cooperate, or die.” This book represents a valuable resource for students, academics (teachers and researchers) and professionals in the field of strategy, decision making and management in general. For the author, cooperative strategy is natural to the human species and, without colliding with the principles of the free market, it may contribute positively on saving the planet.
