Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rural Credits: Land and Cooperative The purpose of this book is to throw light upon the sub jcet of rural credits and to lay before the American people the customs and laws in operation in other countries, so as to prepare the way for more enlightened plans for improving land and agricultural credit facilities in the United States. It is my hope that the material here collected will be helpful in creating a credit system or systems adapted to the needs of the agricultural interests of this country. The subject of rural credits has occupied my attention, more or less, for a considerable number of years, and I have availed myself of the opportunities of my position as Amer ican Ambassador to France to familiarize myself with agri cultural conditions and credit systems and institutions in Europe. Furthermore, my twenty-eight years' connection with the Society for Savings in the City of Cleveland, as treasurer, chairman of the board, and president, has been of great value to me in the formation of ideas regarding financial questions, and especially with respect to cooperative credit. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Agricultural Cooperation, Vol. 5: October 15, 1927 Taking the United States as a whole, the increase in Cooperative activity for the five years was 85 per cent. In some parts of the coun try the percentage increase was considerably greater and in several of the states it amounted to more than ten times that of the entire country. This was largely due to the fact that in certain sections of the United States there had been very little cooperative activity prior to 1919 and about that year many extensive programs Were developed for interesting farmers in collective selling. This was particularly true in the states with large numbers of cotton and tobacco producers. There were also large increases in a number of the states where attention was given to the cc Operative marketing of milk, notably Connecticut. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of the European Co-Operative Credit Systems Since the early part of the Nineteenth Century European farmers have been struggling against adverse economic conditions. Chief amongst the difficulties against which they have had to contend has been the competition of new countries of immense territory and Virgin soil, which, owing to the improvement in the means of transport, have been able to ood the markets of Europe with agricultural produce. Even in the most perishable products the competition has been severe, for the development of cold storage has enabled them to be brought to Europe from the most distant parts of the world. Book Cooperation in Agriculture Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cooperation in Agriculture Classic Reprint written by George Harold Powell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cooperation in Agriculture The American cooperative movement, even in the oldest cooperative organizations, is in the formative stage. The principles of cooperation are not generally understood, and few persons appreciate the difference between a cooperative organization formed for the benefit of its members, and a corporation formed for pecuniary profit. The so - called cooperative associations in the United States and Canada have usually been formed as corporations for profit, and do not differ in principle from the ordinary stock corporations, although an eflort has often been made by the organizers to conduct them along cooperative lines. The development of the agricultural cooperation move ment needs to be preceded in most of the states by legisla tion that will permit the formation of non-profit cooperative associations or the formation of profit corporations that can be operated legally for the benefit of the members. Download or read book Co Operation Among Farmers written by John Lee Coulter and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special re-print edition of John Lee Coulter's book "Co-operation Among Farmers: The Keystone of Rural Prosperity" is a guide to the establishment of organized co-operatives among farmers and ranchers. An agricultural cooperative, also known as a farmers' co-op, is a scenario where farmers pool their resources in certain areas of activity. Agricultural cooperatives are usually distinguished between 'agricultural service cooperatives', which provide various services to their individually farming members, and 'agricultural production cooperatives', where production resources (land, machinery) are pooled and members farm jointly. Written in 1911, this classic text provides insight into the subject of farmer's co-operatives and makes a strong argument for their establishment. Chapters include The Argument For Co-operation, Co-operation Among Dairy Farmers, Marketing of Butter and Cheese, Production and Marketing of Animals For Meat, Storing and Marketing Grain, Marketing Vegetables, Some Successful Societies For Marketing Vegetables, Marketing Poultry and Eggs, Citrus Fruits, Co-operative Stores and much more on the subject. A truly unique and highly informative book on the subject that helped to spawn the establishment of many such co-operatives during the early part of the 20th Century and that will be of immense interest to modern small farmers. Note: This edition is a perfect facsimile of the original edition and is not set in a modern typeface.
