Download or read book Washington DC s Most Wanted written by Brigette Polmar and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2010-07-31 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long a family-friendly tourist destination and educational mecca for students, Washington, DC, is immediately recognizable for its world-class museums and monuments riddled with symbolism. Washington’s other signature stamp—politics—attracts visitors of a different kind. Power players from around the globe gather in the nation’s capital to make history. But that’s not all there is to the city. Part tour guide, part trivia book, Washington, DC’s Most Wanted™ shows you its ins and outs (and sometimes confusing roundabouts). Included in the book’s many chapters are top-ten lists on homegrown artists, authors, and athletes; historic hotels and bars known for their patrons’ wheelings and dealings; local hauntings and lore; and, of course, memorable scandals that erupted within the originally diamond-shaped district. Native Washingtonians, as many know, are few and far between, but even they will find a treasure trove of entertaining facts inside these pages.

Download or read book THE WOOLVERTON FAMILY 1693 1850 and Beyond Volume II written by David A. Macdonald and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Woolverton was in Burlington County, New Jersey, by 1693, and appears in records there and in Hunterdon County until 1727. David Macdonald and Nancy McAdams have traced Charles' descendants to the seventh generation, by which time they had spread out to many parts of the country ... This is a beautifully crafted genealogy. The format is easy to follow, and the documentation is impressive. The compilers have carefully explained their handling of problem areas, including the need to refute longstanding family lore about the immigrant ... This is an exemplary work, which descendants will certainly value and other genealogists would be well advised to study. -- Excerpts from a review published in the April 2003 issue of The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record and reprinted with permission of the author, Harry Macy, Jr. and The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.

Download or read book A Journey From Somerset England To Ohio written by Sue Hawkins Bell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life in the West Country of England in the early 1800’s had its hardships and struggles. Sailing to America brought a final separation for brothers, sisters and friends. With their faith, love and kinship it made life worthwhile. In 1836 the Haine family purchased land in Bloomfi eld, Ohio. Their daughter Frances, at age twenty, could never imagine that her diary would be read, 150 years later. Her writing described country life in Ohio, her impending marriage, and the sorrow of the Civil War. Her home, Clover Hill, is still alive connecting the past to the present. Living in Ohio in the 1970’s and finding the old family Bible, was the start of my research. On the center pages of the Bible, I saw births and marriages listed, along with the name “William Dredge Hawkins, born the 7th of August, 1804” at Chesterblade Hill, Evercreech, Somersetshire, England, but where was this place called Somerset? Meeting cousins from around the world has been part of the fun and journey.
