Divulging the devastating truth to millions is Gil's greatest passion, except for the one thing he cherishes even more--his beautiful fiancé Rebecca. Conceding to Rebecca's concerns, Gil agrees to forego future menacing assignments--as soon as he exposes an omnipotent Russian drug cartel. Gil has witnessed many fascinating events through his work, but he is unprepared for the impending circumstances that will change his life forever. While fleeing the Russian Mafia's vengeful wrath, Gil travels through China's Xin Jiang Autonomous Region, and becomes enchanted by the Heavenly Mountains. An aged Taoist priestess informs Gil that his arrival at this sacred place was preordained, and that his destiny is to lead a life of solitude. After several years embracing the mountains' spiritual rapture, Gil returns to Rebecca, defying the warning that his attempt to alter destiny will provoke horrific consequences. Clouds Over the Heavenly Mountains demonstrates Gil's struggle between passionate desire and practical reasoning, between spiritual awakening and secular needs. His extraordinary journey encompasses heart-pounding adventure, romantic aspiration and a revival of his divine self.

Download or read book True Islam Lost in Translation written by Emil Shehadeh and published by CANDOR Publishing. This book was released on with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contact between Islam and the West is 1400 years old. Both sides have had more than adequate time to become familiar with the other. Yet the world is still arguing about Islam’s teachings. Is Islam peaceful? Does it commend violence? Does Islam respect “the other”? Does Islam abuse women? Is Islam anti-Semitic? Does Islam teach the Torment of the Grave? Does Islam recommend the beating of wives? Do Muslim Scriptures commend Temporary Marriage of Pleasure? Did Zayd divorce Zaynab because he had no further need of her? All these questions are easy to settle for anyone who can read Islamic Scripture in Arabic. The author of this book is such a person. However, to answer all these questions in the affirmative would do the image of Islam much damage in the West, where Islam is keen to present a polished image, especially in the light of much violence committed in its name against westerners. Muslim leaders, and their allies in the West, have popularised a distinction between Muslims and Islamists, in order to distance Islam from thousands of heinous Muslim crimes such as the Charlie Hebdo massacre. Are the English translations of the Qur’an faithful to the original Arabic? Or are they part of the charm offensive Muslim Petro-dollars have financed for years, through sponsorship of university departments of Islamic studies, investing in western media and publishing, building Islamic centres and financing Islamic societies and pressure groups throughout the West. This work gives English readers the ability to access the original Arabic of the Qur’an and hadith, and see the true face of Islam, without its face powder. It is hoped that this work will assist free thinkers to form their own opinion of Islam, based on the true Qur’an, without interference from Muslim propaganda or any agenda driven discourses.
Download or read book Religious practices in the Japanese mountains written by Zuzana Malá and published by Masarykova univerzita. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kniha uvažuje o japonských horách jako o místech náboženských úkonů. Autorka čtenáři nabízí pohled na historický i současný stav náboženských praktik, pričemž nezanedbává ekonomický aspekt jejich vývoje. První tři kapitoly, věnované historickému vývoji náboženských praktik v horské oblasti Tatejama, odhalují souvislost mezi horami a představami o posmrtném životě v Japonsku. Příklad poutnického místa Tatejama, populárního v období Edo, pomáhá představit si jakým způsobem fungovalo v tomto období poutnické místo a náboženský kult.
Download or read book Civilizations of the Silk Road written by H. K. Chang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-02 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the interactions between various civilizations and societies along the Silk Road between 500 BCE and 1500 CE, the period from the first encounters of ancient Greek and Persian civilizations to the time when maritime exchanges between Europe and Asia exceeded those on land. Starting with the genesis and features of different civilizations, the book focuses on the history and exchange of different cultures along the Silk Road: Zhang Qian’s successful pioneering feats which inaugurated the opening stretch of the Silk Road; the origins and dissemination of Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Christianity, Manichaeism, Nestorian-Christianity, and Islam; the westward spread of papermaking and printing; and long-distance exchanges of scripts and spoken language, music, architecture, painting, and sculpture. It also outlines the historically significant migrations of various peoples from east to west, such as the Xiongnu, Yuezhi, Han, Qiang, Hephthalites, Turkic groups, Uyghurs, Mongols, and Xibe. The author has interwoven facts, anecdotes, and his own experiences of study throughout the book, making it a fascinating history reader and cultural primer. This book thus will be an essential read for students and scholars of Eurasian Studies and Chinese History and those who are interested in the history of the Silk Road in general.
Download or read book Through Hell to Heaven Back written by Michael Cassidyne and published by Michael Cassidyne-Hook. This book was released on 2009-03-23 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through Hell, To Heaven, And Back! is that rare book that captivates the imagination, AND offers profound spiritual insights into the nature of life, death, and the human spirit. First published in 2003 in Kelowna, B.C. Canada, this true-life chronicle is based on a hitherto lost Russian-language manuscript written by Russian man who recounts in detail his experiences leading up, during, and after the time when he was persecuted, tortured, and left to die by Soviet authorities in a frigid prison cellar for three day and three nights in Stalinist Russia in 1931. The poignant and compelling afterlife experiences and insights expressed by the author and translated into English in the early 2000's by a linguist selected by the original author's son, offer spiritual insights that are totally unique and deeply thought-provoking. They are insights that challenge the reader to venture beyond conventional wisdom and the mostly unquestioned reference points from which most people view life and “the world.” Rather than suggesting like many self-help books do that the ‘truth’ is ‘out there’ somewhere, this book encourages us to look inside ourselves for the true causal factors that give rise to our experiences and the world around us. Consistent with the defining principles of quantum physics leading to the as-yet unproven notion that the fundamental constituents of the 'material world' may not exist independently of human observation, it boldly suggests that the causal determinants of what we experience are to be found within the inner-most psyche of each individual. Indeed, while encouraging intimate self-reflection, the account guides us to nurture the bond between our minds and our hearts, and to understand that, "all that we see, and all that we ever will see -- with all our senses and through all our experiences -- is all ours, is all of us, is all for us, is all through us, and is all to us", and that "there is no death." In the writing of his story, this author offers humanity profound answers and inspiration. His exceptionally descriptive, simple, and cogent narration can't help but both transport the reader into those realms of heavenly experience, and speak to the inner spirit of every human being. A truly life-changing read!
Download or read book The Lotus Boat written by Marsha L. Wagner and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 1984 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An epic spanning more than half a century of Taiwan's history, this breathtaking historical novel traces the fortunes of the Pengs, a family of Hakka Chinese settlers, across three generations from the 1890s, just before Taiwan was ceded to Japan as a result of the Sino-Japanese war, through World War II. Li Qiao brilliantly re-creates the dramatic world of these pioneers--and the colonization of Taiwan itself--exploring their relationships with the aboriginal peoples of Taiwan and their struggle to establish their own ethnic and political identities. This carefully researched work of fiction draws upon Li's own experiences and family history, as well as oral and written histories of the era. Originally published in Chinese as a trilogy, this newly translated edition is an abridgement for English-speaking readers and marks the work's first appearance in the English-speaking world. It was well-received in Taiwan as an honest--and influential--recreation of Taiwan's history before the relocation of the Republic of China from the mainland to Taiwan. Because Li's saga is so deeply imbued with the unique culture and complex history of Taiwan, an introduction explaining the cultural and historical background of the novel is included to help orient the reader to this amazingly rich cultural context. This informative introduction and the sweeping saga of the novel itself together provide an important view of Taiwan's little known colonial experience.

Download or read book Clouds Over Qingcheng Mountain written by Wang Yun and published by Singing Dragon. This book was released on 2020-09-21 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immersing the mind with the concepts of the Daoist path of health and immortality, Clouds over Qingcheng Mountain invokes the sacred birthplace of one of China's mystical mountains that has stimulated both mind and body for generations. Whilst the first volume, Climbing the Steps to Qingcheng Mountain, invited the reader to travel across time and through the history of China and Daoism, Clouds over Qingcheng Mountain is more focused in the book's purpose. Wang Yun places special focus on relaxation and the breath through five sets of foundational yet all-encompassing practices, such as posting, to deepen both themes. He offers tales from his life and journey, along with accessible tools to strengthen both body and qi. Bridging the gap between practical experience and philosophical background, Clouds over Qingcheng Mountain simplifies the complex practices of Daoism handed down by generations of accomplished Masters, and gifts the reader with its most valuable aspects for a modern world.

Download or read book Adventures of the Mad Monk Ji Gong written by Guo Xiaoting and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Follow the brilliant and hilarious adventures of the Zen Buddhist monk who became one of China's greatest folk heroes! During the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Ji Gong studied at the renowned Ling Yin monastery, nestled in the steep hills above Hangzhou. The Chan (Zen) Buddhist masters of the temple tried to instruct Ji Gong in the spartan practices of their sect, but the young monk, following in the footsteps of other great ne'er-do-wells, distinguished himself mainly by getting expelled. He left the monastery, became a wanderer with hardly a proper piece of clothing to wear, and achieved significant renown--in seedy wine shops and drinking establishments! That could have been where Ji Gong's story ended. But his unorthodox style of Buddhism soon made him a hero for storytellers of his era. Audiences delighted in tales where the mad old monk ignored--or even mocked--authority, defied common sense, and never neglected the wine, yet still managed to save the day. Ji Gong remains popular in China even today, where he regularly appears as the wise drunkard in movies and TV shows. In these 89 stories, you'll read about Ji Gong's rogue's knack for exposing the corrupt and criminal while still pursuing the twin delights of enlightenment and intoxication. This literary classic of a traveling martial arts master will entertain readers of all ages!
