Book Cloud Computing in the Financial Sector

Download or read book Cloud Computing in the Financial Sector written by Hal S. Scott and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As financial institutions move their operations, including core functions, to the cloud, financial regulators have begun to issue regulations and informal guidance addressing the use of cloud services in the financial sector. These are typically based on the regulator's existing framework for outsourcing by a financial institution to third-party technology providers, under which the risks associated with outsourcing and the supervision of third-party providers are primarily the responsibility of the financial institution. This report provides background on the use of cloud computing in the financial sector, reviews existing regulatory and supervisory frameworks for cloud use by financial institutions, and recommends improvements to those frameworks that could reduce obstacles to more widespread cloud adoption by financial institutions.

Book Next Generation Data Centers in Financial Services

Download or read book Next Generation Data Centers in Financial Services written by Tony Bishop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial markets are witnessing an unprecedented explosion in the availability of data, and the firms that survive will be able to leverage this information to increase their profit and expand their opportunities in a global world. Financial firms have two options: to build their own data centers or to outsource them to hosting services such as Google and Amazon ‘cloud’ services. While outsourcing data centers is a trend for small firms, it is not applicable to bigger firms who want more control over their huge amounts of data. Large firms thus build their own data centers. In such an environment, the CIO’s ability is crucial to lead an effective data strategy to capture, process and connect data to all the relevant lines of business. At the core of this strategy lies the data center – the repository of all information. In recognition of the importance of information, firms are rushing to invest in data centers, but they are finding that just throwing technology at the problem is not good enough. Despite the investments, data centers prove frustrating in terms of inefficiencies and rising costs, directly cutting into the profitability of lines of business that they serve. While there are books that discuss the mechanics, hardware and technicalities of data centers, no book has yet made the connection between enterprise strategy and data center investment, design and management. This book is a solution driven book for management demonstrating how to leverage technology to manage the seemingly infinite amount of data available today. Each chapter offers cutting-edge management and technology solutions to effectively manage data through data centers. • Feature: Presents cutting-edge technology solutions not available in one place until now • Benefit: Saves time going to numerous websites, calling vendors, going to conferences • Feature: Includes step-by-step instructions on how to implement a data center strategy based on the author’s recent success with Wachovia’s data center • Benefit: Readers can follow these steps with confidence that they will work and not have to re-invent the wheel • Feature: Demonstrates how business and IT can be aligned in financial services • Benefit: Demonstrating this alignment is crucial for any proposal for IT related resources today

Book Industry Trends in Cloud Computing

Download or read book Industry Trends in Cloud Computing written by David Dempsey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the Cloud Computing (CC) commercial landscape as it matures; this book asserts that the key ingredient in sustaining the Software as a Service (SaaS) business model is subscription renewal. Chronicling the evolution and future trajectory of the CC concept, the authors examine the new paradigm it is creating for the distribution of computer software applications among business-to-business (B2B) clients. CC enabled SaaS has been fundamentally changing the revenue expectations and business model for the application software industry, and impacting on how SaaS providers pursue, acquire and retain B2B clients. Securing SaaS subscription renewal is critical to the survival and prosperity of this business as attrition can have a significant impact on the financial viability of SaaS businesses based on this model. Focusing on the B2B client and the SaaS industry dependency on renewal subscriptions delivered through the CC channel, the primary research presented in this book seeks to examine the key drivers behind the B2B SaaS subscription renewal decision and, in doing so, to explore the recurring revenue framework for the Cloud SaaS business.

Book Digital Finance and the Future of the Global Financial System

Download or read book Digital Finance and the Future of the Global Financial System written by Lech Gąsiorkiewicz and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-25 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an in-depth analysis of the most salient features of contemporary financial systems and clarifies the major strategic issues facing the development of digital finance. It provides insight into how the digital finance system actually works in a socioeconomic context. It presents three key messages: that digital transformation will change the financial system entirely, that the State has a particularly important role to play in the whole process and that consumers will be offered more opportunities and freedom but simultaneously will be exposed to more risk and challenges. The book is divided into four parts. It begins by laying down the fundamentals of the subsequent analysis and offers a deep understanding of digital finance, including a topology of the key technologies applied in the transformation process. The next part reviews the challenges facing the digital State in the new reality, the digitalization of public finance and the development of digitally relevant taxation systems. In the third part, digital consumer aspects are discussed. The final part examines the risks and challenges of digital finance. The authors focus their attention on three key developments in financial markets: accelerated growth in terms of the importance of algorithms, replacing existing legal regulations; the expansion of cyber risk and its growing impact and finally the emergence of new dimensions of systemic risk as a side effect of financial digitalization. The authors supplement the analysis with a discussion of how these new risks and challenges are monitored and mitigated by financial supervision. The book is a useful, accessible guide to students and researchers of finance, finance and technology, regulations and compliance in finance.

Book Expert Systems in Finance

Download or read book Expert Systems in Finance written by Noura Metawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the industry, financial institutions seek to eliminate cumbersome authentication methods, such as PINs, passwords, and security questions, as these antiquated tactics prove increasingly weak. Thus, many organizations now aim to implement emerging technologies in an effort to validate identities with greater certainty. The near instantaneous nature of online banking, purchases, transactions, and payments puts tremendous pressure on banks to secure their operations and procedures. In order to reduce the risk of human error in financial domains, expert systems are seen to offer a great advantage in big data environments. Besides their efficiency in quantitative analysis such as profitability, banking management, and strategic financial planning, expert systems have successfully treated qualitative issues including financial analysis, investment advisories, and knowledge-based decision support systems. Due to the increase in financial applications’ size, complexity, and number of components, it is no longer practical to anticipate and model all possible interactions and data processing in these applications using the traditional data processing model. The emergence of new research areas is clear evidence of the rise of new demands and requirements of modern real-life applications to be more intelligent. This book provides an exhaustive review of the roles of expert systems within the financial sector, with particular reference to big data environments. In addition, it offers a collection of high-quality research that addresses broad challenges in both theoretical and application aspects of intelligent and expert systems in finance. The book serves to aid the continued efforts of the application of intelligent systems that respond to the problem of big data processing in a smart banking and financial environment.

Book excerpt: DIVE INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN Young. Hungry. Visionary. Chris Zadeh saw a future few could ever imagine possible. When he presented his idea--coding a new core banking engine in the cloud--bankers laughed. They scoffed. Then they rejected his revolutionary idea outright. They said, "The cloud's not safe." "Who do you think you are--telling us how to run our banks?" "And who the hell is ever going to put a bank on the cloud?" Chris Zadeh and his team of underdogs knew the answer: everyone. They also knew the cloud wasn't just safe, it was the future of banking. And more than anything, he knew exactly who he and his team were: they were Ohpen, the first software company in the world to put a bank on the cloud. Together, this band of brothers harnessed their give-it-all mentality, fighting spirit, and bold vision to change how the world banks. In this surprising, unfiltered, outstandingly told story, Banking the Cloud takes the reader on an epic journey--from thrill of discovery, to the devastation of defeat, and to an exhilarating and last-minute rally that changed everything. This is a remarkable tale of what it takes to innovate, survive, and ultimately win no matter what the obstacle. You'll find it impossible to put this book down.

Book Secure Use of Cloud Computing in the Finance Sector

Download or read book Secure Use of Cloud Computing in the Finance Sector written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cloud computing is gradually being adopted within the European financial industry. However, the adoption approach is not yet mature. The vast majority of Financial Institutions (FIs) still rely on in-house infrastructure. Finance sector Institutions and supervisory authorities seem to have a clear view of the financial and technical benefits connected to the adoption of both Public and Private Cloud deployment models, but they remain cautious about the risk of losing control over information assets. The most common approach used by FIs is a Hybrid of Private and Public Cloud. Even then, the services most often migrated to the cloud are test environments and email management. Financial Institutions consider that Private Cloud is a better overall fit for the financial market due to privacy and compliance concerns. Private Cloud is certainly favoured by the National Financial Supervisory Authorities (NFSAs), as it provides more control over data and operations. In creating this report we analysed input from a number of different sources to better understand the usage of cloud services in the finance sector. Based on the analysis we provide recommendations to financial institutions, regulators and cloud service providers about what we believe should be done to support secure adoption of cloud services in the finance sector.
