Book Geotechnics of High Water Content Materials

Download or read book Geotechnics of High Water Content Materials written by Tuncer B. Edil and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2000 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reasonable estimates indicate that approximately a billion cubic meters of high water content soil-like wastes are produced annually worldwide, and a large portion of these are deposited hydraulically in diked impoundment areas, some of which are among the largest earth structures in the world. The major problems emanating from this disposal method are the difficulty in dewatering the wastes, their low strength and hydraulic conductivity, their high compressibility, their potential to contaminate the groundwater, the stability of the confining dikes, and the ultimate reclamation of the disturbed land. Following a brief explanation of how many of these wastes are generated, quantitative values for key engineering properties are summarized and compared for a wide variety of waste materials and some reference soils. Then, many concepts that have been applied with success will be presented together with the advantages each offers, the difficulties involved in using it, and the limitations in our knowledge. Discussed briefly will be state-of-practice developments in mathematical modeling, laboratory testing and associated interpretations, and material property formulations.

Book FARM MACHINERY

Download or read book FARM MACHINERY written by TRIVENI PRASAD SINGH and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for the course on Farm Machinery for undergraduate students of Agricultural Engineering, the book deals with the field operations such as tillage, tillage machineries including seedbed refining machineries, sowings and planting machineries, weeding and interculture equipment. A variety of harvesting and threshing equipment for cereals and forage crop including recovery/handling of crop residue are also dealt with in detail. The book discusses machineries used for specialised crops like rice, potato and sugarcane which are the major crops grown in our country. A detailed procedure on estimation of operational cost of agricultural machineries find place in this text. Review questions, multiple choice questions and solved numerical problems are suitably placed at the end of each chapter, wherever required, to help students to check their knowledge and grasping of the subject. Efforts have been made to write this book conforming to the course curriculum to enable students to use this book as a text. The tools, implements or machineries have been described in a simple language supported with line diagrams and photographs for better understanding. The students will find this book valuable for their continuing education as well as for various competitive examinations. Besides B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) students, the book is also beneficial for the students of Diploma in Agricultural Engineering and B.Sc. Agricultural Sciences for their paper on ‘Farm Machinery’.

By updating this thorough text with the newest analytical tools and measurement methodologies in the field, the authors provide an ideal reference for students and professionals in environmental science, hydrology, soil science, geology, ecological engineering, and countless other environmental fields.

Book Geoenvironmental Engineering

Download or read book Geoenvironmental Engineering written by A.M.O. Mohamed and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-04-21 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new social and economic era calls for integration of ecology and economy in a system of cause and effect. The central element in this shift is sustainable development. Fundamental to the achievement of sustainable development is the requirement for environmentally responsible waste management and restoration of the environment. Solutions to the complex problems confronted by waste management and environmental restoration industry are currently handled by the geoenvironmental engineering profession that needs a good background in soil biology, chemistry, mechanics, mineralogy, and physics. In recognition of this need, this book summarizes relevant aspects of various soil physics, mineralogy, and chemistry as well as the chemistry of pollutants. This treatment will provide sufficient background to students and practicing engineers to enable them to think about how to approach waste management and environmental restoration problems.
