Book Clinical Trials and Treatment Outcomes of Edentulous Patients Treated with Implant supported Prostheses

Download or read book Clinical Trials and Treatment Outcomes of Edentulous Patients Treated with Implant supported Prostheses written by Sara Abdulaziz Al-Fadda and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their introduction, the use of endosseous implant for replacements of missing teeth has increased dramatically. To date, however, there is no evidence-based answer to the important clinical question: What implant-supported prosthesis designs provide the best outcomes? Cochrane systematic reviews have been used to critically assess scientific literature, to answer a wide array of questions. This approach was used to focus on implant-related treatment outcomes, including patient-based outcomes. Data showed that in most cases clinical and patient-mediated outcomes did not differ significantly from one another regardless of the prosthesis used. However, long-term prognosis of implant-supported overdentures using magnet attachments may produce inferior outcomes when compared to other attachments. In this dissertation it was shown that long-term results following immediate loading of endosseous implants with overdentures were successful based on biological and clinical parameters, cost to patient, and patient-based outcomes. Moreover, it was noted that well-designed clinical trials evaluating efficacy of immediate loading with fixed prostheses are uncommon. Furthermore, a parallel randomized controlled clinical trial focusing on this issue was carried out. In this trial, the author investigated the effects of immediate and delayed loading of implants with mandibular fixed prostheses. The implant-related outcomes underscore that even when implants are loaded during the healing period (i.e. immediate loading), successful osseointegration can be achieved and maintained. Patients. satisfaction and oral health-related quality of life indicated that the two loading schemes addressed patient's need equally.

Book Treatment Effect of Implant supported Fixed Complete Dentures and Implant Overdentures on Patient reported Outcomes a Systematic Review and Meta analysis

Download or read book Treatment Effect of Implant supported Fixed Complete Dentures and Implant Overdentures on Patient reported Outcomes a Systematic Review and Meta analysis written by Samir Abou-Ayash and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Objectives To analyze the effect of implant treatment in edentulous patients rehabilitated with implant-supported fixed complete dentures (IFCDs) or implant overdentures (IODs) on dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs). Materials and Methods In January 2022, Medline, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PubMed Central, Web of Science, and ClinicalTrials.gov were screened for prospective clinical studies on completely edentulous patients treated with IFCDs and/or IODs, reporting pre-treatment and follow-up dPROs. Hedges' g effect sizes (ES) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Afterward, meta-analyses were conducted using random effect models. Results A total number of 1608 records was initially identified. Of those, 28 studies reporting dPROs from 1457 patients were finally included. The applied dental patient-reported outcome measures (dPROMs) included several versions of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) or specific items assessing satisfaction with Visual Analogue Scales (VAS). The overall ES was large for rehabilitation with IFCDs (1.68 [CI: 1.15, 2.20]) and IODs (1.26 [CI: 0.99, 1.52]) with no significant difference (p = .165) between the two. Denture stability was the only factor rated significantly higher for IFCDs (ES difference: 2.37 [CI: 0.21, 4.54]; p = .032). Subgroup analyses revealed moderately higher ES for IODs on two implants relative to one implant (ES difference: 0.73 [CI: 0.34, 1.12]; p .001).brbrConclusions

Book Prosthetic Treatment of the Edentulous Patient

Download or read book Prosthetic Treatment of the Edentulous Patient written by R. M. Basker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-02-18 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of improvements in oral health, there will always be a significant number of people who lose all their teeth. Furthermore, as people are living longer, complete denture work has become more challenging and managing the transition from a pre-edentulous to an edentulous condition has become more critical. The fourth edition of this established textbook for dental undergraduates and postgraduates has been completely updated to reflect these changes. More emphasis has been placed on care of the elderly and how to achieve better communication between clinicians and dental technicians. More details of clinical techniques have been included, with a new section on the self assessment of clinical work. The text has been completely revised to take into account the results of research over the last ten years.

Book Long Term Outcomes of Overdenture Treatment in Elderly Patients Without a Maintenance Program

Download or read book Long Term Outcomes of Overdenture Treatment in Elderly Patients Without a Maintenance Program written by Cordaro Matteo and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: In many cases edentulous patients treated with implant supported overdentures, donu2019t follow a maintenance program, after prosthesis delivery. This issue is even more common with elderly patients due to the reduced independence these persons often experience, given their general health situation. Long term studies on this clinical situation are lacking.Aim of this study: to report the subjective and objective evaluation in the long term of implant supported overdentures in a population of elderly patients that did not follow a post treatment supportive care program. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study is based on the data of 52 patients that received 1 or 2 implant retained over dentures at the department of Periodontology and Prosthodontics pf the George Eastman hospital in Rome, between 2004 and 2010. 63 arches could be evaluated. Mean age of the patients was 68. Smokers were also included in this study. None of the patients was following a supportive treatment protocol nor was visiting regularly a dentist. Overdentures were supported either by a dodler bar or locator abutments. Mean follow up was 8.8 years. Patients were given a complete oral, periodontal and prosthetic examination subjective evaluation of several aspects was carried out with different tests, including VAS and OHIP-14 questionnaires. The reported medical, prosthetic and implant complications occurred in the post treatment period were listed. Results: 91,67% of the implants survived, while a total of 21 implants were lost for different reasons. The prosthesis were found to have an optimal (61.9%) or a sufficient stability (14.3%) in the majority of cases. Reported technical complications were a mean of 2.8 per patient, these included minor and major complications. 11 patients suffered 1 or 2 major complications and 5 reported more than 2. 36 had none or only minor complications with their prosthesis. When questioned the 82.7% of the patients affirmed their satisfaction with the treatment and that they would eventually redo it. Discussion and conclusions: Given the results of this study, it is clear that the main issue with this kind of treatment is represented by the prosthetic rehabilitation. The use of 4 implants per arch has reduced the impact of the biological complications on the overall treatment outcome. The reported major prosthetic complications lead to the conclusion that some kind of metallic framework may be advisable to improve the long term outcome. This kind of treatment is advisable for elderly edentulous patients.

Book Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients E Book

Download or read book Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients E Book written by George A. Zarb and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering the functional and esthetic needs of edentulous patients, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients: Complete Dentures and Implant-Supported Prostheses, 13th Edition helps you provide complete dentures, with and without dental implant support. It addresses both the behavioral and clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment and covers treatment modalities including osseointegration, overdentures, implant-supported fixed prosthesis, and the current and future directions of implant prosthodontics. New to this edition are full-color photographs and coverage of immediately loaded complete dental prostheses. From lead editor and respected educator George Zarb, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients provides an atlas of clinical procedures and emphasizes the importance of evidence-based treatment. Short, easy-to-read chapters cover the essentials of care for both short- and long-term patients, stressing the importance of evidence-based treatment. Expanded coverage of implant prosthodontics addresses the clinical protocols for implant-retained and implant-supported prosthodontic management. Specific chapters address the three surfaces of the complete denture: (1) an impression or intaglio surface, (2) a polished surface, and (3) an occlusal surface, the integration of which is crucial to creating a stable, functional, and esthetic result. Chapter on health and nutrition examines a number of systemic conditions (vesciculoerosive conditions, systemic lupus erythematosus, burning mouth syndrome, salivary dysfunction, Sjögren's syndrome, hyper/hyposalivation, diabetes) that affect the oral cavity and specifically influence the prognosis for wearing complete dentures or for accepting osseointegrated prostheses. Chapter on the time-dependent changes which occur in the oral cavity focuses on both time-related direct (ulcer/cheek biting, irritation hyperplasia, denture stomatitis, flabby ridge and pendulous maxillary tuberosities, hyperkeratosis and oral cancer, residual ridge reduction) and indirect (atrophy of masticatory muscles, nutritional status and masticatory function, control of sequelae) changes in the oral environment, and provides strategies to minimize the risk of such changes. Chapter on the techniques used to prolong the life of complete dentures focuses on the two techniques used to extend the life of dentures: relining and rebasing, also touching on denture duplication. Well-respected editors and contributors are the leaders in their field, lending credibility and experience to each topic.

Book Telescoping Implant Fixed Protheses for Edentulous Rehabilitation A Prospective Clinical Study

Download or read book Telescoping Implant Fixed Protheses for Edentulous Rehabilitation A Prospective Clinical Study written by Qiaona Wang and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract:Background: Double crowns have served as attachments for remaining healthy natural teeth and periodontally compromised dentition. Additionally, they have fine long-term clinical outcomes when used in implant-supported overdentures. However, the treatment concept of telescoping implant fixed dentures for edentulous patients has been described only in few case reports so far. Our team believes telescopes can be flexibly used in retaining full-mouth implant-supported fixed protheses. Purpose: The aim of this investigation was to figure out the implant and prosthetic survival rates, the healthy condition of peri-implant soft and hard tissues, patient satisfaction and the incidence rates of prosthetic maintenance for an average follow-up period of 3 years. Material and Methods: From March 2012 to June 2017, 17 edentulous patients (11 male and 6 female; mean age 56) were selected to have implant-supported fixed telescopic prostheses. A total of 18 protheses were fabricated(8 maxillary and 10 mandibular). Fixed dentures retained by telescopic crowns were used as the final prosthesis, with milling titanium or all-ceramic abutments serving as primary crowns and gold-electroforming crowns serving as secondary crowns. Health status of peri-implant soft tissue, marginal bone loss, patient satisfaction and prosthetic complications were evaluated at the time of follow-up visits (3 months, 1 year, 2 years and 3 years after definitive rehabilitation). Data was counted and analyzed applying SPSS v23 software package. Quantitative data about health condition of soft-tissue and bone loss during three-yearu2019s observation time was evaluated by the method of multilevel analysis. Multilevel analysis was performed by means of R version 3.1.0. Results: All 17 patients (56 u00b1 6.1 years/range: 42.7-68.5) were treated with one-piece implant-supported fixed telescopic dentures. There were 58 implants in the maxilla and 53 implants in the mandible. 109 implants out of 111 implants were retained, yielding a 98.2% cumulative implant success rate. Radiography results indicated stable marginal bone loss in survival implants. There was no significant differences in modified plaque index and modified sulcus bleeding index over this time (P>0.05). The probing attachment level deteriorated by 1.5 mm during the first 3 years (P0.05). Among the restorations, 2 porcelain fractures were detected but neither had notable impact on the restoration outcomes. All 18 restorations provided sufficient fixation and stability and all patients were satisfied with the outcomes. Totally 2 porcelain fractures occurred but had no influence on the function of restoration. The frequency of prosthetic maintenance per patient per year was 0.11. Conclusion: One-piece implant-supported fixed detachable telescopic restoration is an effective method with short-term esthetic and stable outcomes in edentulous patients. One of the key benefits is the access of both retrievability and retentive force. Besides, it provides the possibility of restoring an edentulous mouth with fixed dentures using implants even situated in undesirable positions or direction. Long-term clinical evaluations and higher level of study are needed in the future. Background: Double crowns have served as attachments for remaining healthy natural teeth and periodontally compromised dentition. Download or read book Loading Protocols in Implant Dentistry written by Daniel Wismeijer and published by Quintessenz Verlag. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implant dentistry has become a standard option for the rehabilitation of fully and partially edentulous patients. With the ever-increasing number of dentists involved in implant dentistry, it is essential to ensure that their treatment methods follow the highest standard. The ITI Treatment Guide series, a compendium of evidence-based implant-therapy techniques in daily practice, is written by renowned clinicians and provides a comprehensive overview of various therapeutic options. Using an illustrated step-by-step approach, the ITI Treatment Guide shows practitioners how to manage different clinical situations, with the emphasis on sound diagnostics, evidence-based treatment concepts, and predictable treatment outcomes. The second volume of the ITI Treatment Guide is devoted to the restoration of partially dentate patients. Central to this volume of the ITI Treatment Guide are loading protocols available to the clinician and the patient and how they relate to various treatment indications, including both single and multiple missing teeth in the posterior and anterior regions of the mouth. Among potential topics for upcoming volumes are implant placement in extraction sockets, loading protocols in edentulous patients, implant therapy in the esthetic zone in extended edentulous spaces, and many more.
