Book excerpt: One of the most time-consuming tasks in clinical medicine is seeking the opinions of specialist colleagues. There is a pressure not only to make referrals appropriate but also to summarize the case in the language of the specialist. This book explains basic physiologic and pathophysiologic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease in a straightforward manner, gives guidelines as to when referral is appropriate, and, uniquely, explains what the specialist is likely to do. It is ideal for any hospital doctor, generalist, or even senior medical student who may need a cardiology opinion, or for that ma.

Book Clinical Aspects of Cardiac Arrhythmias

Download or read book Clinical Aspects of Cardiac Arrhythmias written by A.J. Camm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We were particularly pleased to compile this volume entitled 'Clinical Aspects of Cardiac Arrhythmias'. Recent years have seen the publication of many textbooks on cardiac arrhythmias, some of which concentrate on one particular aspect such as drug management, electrocardiographic appearances, electrophysiological evaluation etc; and others of which are the collated reports of symposia, often dealing with detailed con siderations of highly specialised problems. Most of the larger more comprehensive texts have devoted a substantial proportion to basic considerations and experimental observations, far removed from the clinical arena. When asked to contribute to the series 'Current Status of Clinical Cardiology' we felt that the clinical aspects of cardiac arrhyth mias should be emphasized, and that the text should be as comprehensive as possible within the limitations of a single volume in this series. This comprehensive but clinical approach has necessitated the inclusion of certain subjects such as the mechanisms of tachycardia, metabolic aspects of cardiac arrhythmias and reperfusion arrhythmias, which are not directly or exclusively clinical. However, the rapid advances in these areas in recent years are likely to have increasingly important clinical con seq uences. Although the epidemiology of clinical arrhythmias is difficult to dis cover, it is widely appreciated that arrhythmias are commonplace.

Book Electrocardiography of Clinical Arrhythmias

Download or read book Electrocardiography of Clinical Arrhythmias written by Charles Fisch and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 2000-07-26 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because arrhythmias can present in so many different forms, the only way to be certain of an interpretation is to understand the underlying ECG mechanism of arrhythmia. This is especially important in choosing a management strategy, as similar arrhythmias of differing origin may have vastly different therapies/treatments. Unfortunately, standard teaching methods can seem to divorce the theoretical knowledge required for diagnosis from the hands-on reading of ECGs. To achieve a balance of practicality and competency, the two parts of this book are equally divided between concrete example and didactic theory. Section I provides multiple ECG readings of the most commonly encountered simple and complex arrhythmias, and includes differential diagnosis where appropriate. These readings are presented with a minimum of theory, and are repetitively presented in multiple permutations, as they would be encountered in ECG reading room or on the wards. Section II provides a more in-depth discussion of ECG mechanisms and arrhythmogenesis. Attention is focused on the relevant underlying electrophysiology and the deductive processes used to reach the diagnoses of complex arrhythmias. This book can serve as a quick and handy reference for systematic, rule-based arrhythmic diagnoses, as well as an authoritative teaching text for learning the underlying theory and mechanics. It will be of great interest to students and clinicians at all levels, including cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and others who care for patients with cardiovascular disease, ICU and ER staff, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, and surgeons.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A significantly expanded third edition, this book provides a comprehensive and concise overview of cardiac arrhythmias and their ECG/telemetry manifestations, including the principles of cardiac electrophysiology, current concepts of pharmacology, clinical features, diagnoses, and state-of-the-art treatments. Additionally, the book emphasizes decision-making strategies in approaching each individual patient and the application of technical innovations in specific clinical situations. Organized into eight parts, beginning chapters introduce the concepts and principles of cardiac electrophysiology, unique rhythms, and ECG waves/signs. These chapters are designed to integrate emerging knowledge in basic science and clinical medicine. Subsequent chapters focus on the diagnosis of a variety of cardiac arrhythmias using non-invasive methodology. Throughout the book, chapters continue to analyze pharmacological and other approaches to therapy of specific arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardias, atrial fibrillation and flutter, ventricular arrhythmias, and bradyarrhythmias. Finally, the book closes with coverage on inherited cardiac arrhythmia syndromes including the long, short QT, and J-wave syndromes, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. The third edition of Management of Cardiac Arrhythmias, is an essential resource for physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students in cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiac radiology.

Book Textbook of Clinical Electrocardiography

Download or read book Textbook of Clinical Electrocardiography written by Antonio Bayés de Luna and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last 15 years we have had the opportunity to teach Electrocardiography to many different types of student: doctors preparing to become cardiologists, cardiologists attending weekly 'refresher' sessions at our hospital, general practitioners who wish to become adept at electrocardiography and attend our yearly courses and, finally, the medical students of the Universidad Aut6noma of Barcelona. We cover everything with these students from the basics of electrophysiology to applied electrocardiographic semiology. This quadruple experience has proved stimulating, constantly motivating the search for better and more precise material, and the most appropriate didactic presentation for each type of student, each of whom has different requirements. I have always felt that didactic capability is not related to the intelligence of the professor, or to the amount of knowledge this person possesses, but really depends on the 'quality' of this knowledge, the 'desire' to transmit it and the 'capacity' to adapt to each teaching situation.

Book Clinical Electrocardiography

Download or read book Clinical Electrocardiography written by Antoni Bayés de Luna and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-09-10 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: b>Clinical Electrocardiography Electrocardiography is a transthoracic recording over a period of time. Electrical activity is detected and recorded via electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin. The recording produced by this noninvasive procedure is termed as electrocardiogram. ECGs are used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats as well as the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart. Clinical Electrocardiography is the clearest and most accessible guide available to the application and interpretation of the ECG in clinical practice. The book proceeds from the belief that ECG patterns should not be memorized, but rather must be understood based on how they originate; it is only by achieving this level of understanding that clinicians can make the most informed diagnoses and thus manage patient care with complete confidence. This fully revised 5th edition: Gives clear information about the correct diagnoses of different heart diseases based on ECG alterations. Presents an exceedingly clear and linear approach to understanding the application and interpretation of the ECG in clinical practice. Explains the electrical activity of the heart and basic electrocardiographic principals. Offers guidance on normal ECG patterns and the changes various heart diseases produce in ECG morphology Provides a practical, deductive approach to the diagnosis of arrhythmias - one of the most challenging tasks for many clinicians Summarizes current knowledge of the clinical implication of rhythmic disturbances.
