Book excerpt: This book presents the most relevant and recent results in the study of “Nanoelectromagnetics”, a recently born fascinating research discipline, whose popularity is fast arising with the intensive penetration of nanotechnology in the world of electronics applications. Studying nanoelectromagnetics means describing the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and quantum mechanical low-dimensional systems: this requires a full interdisciplinary approach, the reason why this book hosts contributions from the fields of fundamental and applied electromagnetics, of chemistry and technology of nanostructures and nanocomposites, of physics of nano-structures systems, etc. The book is aimed at providing the reader with the state of the art in Nanoelectromagnetics, from theoretical modelling to experimental characterization, from design to synthesis, from DC to microwave and terahertz applications, from the study of fundamental material properties to the analysis of complex systems and devices, from commercial thin-film coatings to metamaterials to circuit components and nanodevices. The book is intended as a reference in advanced courses for graduate students and as a guide for researchers and industrial professionals involved in nanoelectronics and nanophotonics applications.

Book Climate Change And Energy Options For A Sustainable Future

Download or read book Climate Change And Energy Options For A Sustainable Future written by Dinesh Kumar Srivastava and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book could not be more timely — published after a year that saw the costliest slew of weather disasters in history along with one of the deadliest pandemic, the emergence and spread of which is linked to climate change ... This book will be a valuable resource for scientists, policy makers but also educators and especially a young generation of readers who want to be informed citizens shaping the right choices for their local communities but also as cosmopolitan citizens of the world.'Journal of Indian Physics AssociationThe signs of global warming can be seen everywhere — hotter summers, frequent heavy rains, prolonged droughts, more severe forest fires, fiercer storms (including snow storms) and cyclones, as well as melting polar ice caps. Our indiscriminate actions are raising the spectre of millions of climate refugees who are victims of battles for water, crops, fish, and so on. It is poignant that the poorer countries, that are the least equipped to face these calamities have contributed the least to global warming, but are the worst hit.Only a concerted effort from the entire world by a rapid transition to renewable, clean and green energy sources, while checking wastage, deforestation and pollution, and a genuine adjustment in lifestyles towards moderation can avert the Earth, the only habitable planet we know, from turning into a hothouse.

This book was released on 2016-05-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is dedicated to three fundamental and complementary tasks: (1) increase the accuracy of our knowledge of the physical parameters that are the foundation of our technology-driven society; (2) disseminate technologies by which these physical parameters can be accessed in a standardized way by the stakeholders; and (3) conduct research at both fundamental and applied levels to provide knowledge that may eventually lead to advances in measurement approaches and standards. This report assesses the scientific and technical work performed by the PML and identifies salient examples of accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities for improvement for each of its nine divisions.

Book Musical Intelligence as Creative Flow

Download or read book Musical Intelligence as Creative Flow written by Andi Bowe and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-11-03 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores theories of intelligence, learning, and motivation to attempt a better understanding of the many interacting factors affecting the lifetime development of whole and happy children in the 21st century. The focus is on justifying the increased use of music as an art form in early childhood education. The Breadth component analyzes Elkind's (2001, 2007) theories on the power of play and Bronfenbrenner's (1969, 1993) theories on ecological systems. These theories are synthesized with Gardner's (2000, 2006) theories of multiple intelligences, particularly musical intelligence. Musical intelligence is considered as one of the most important ingredients in a recipe for wholeness, stimulating both the joy of learning and the desire to be a whole and creative individual. The Depth section explores current brain-based research models and the application component offers a free framework and sample grant proposal for any individual or community to implement.

Book The D and E Regions

Download or read book The D and E Regions written by William Swider and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of the E-region is fairly well understood and even many of the dynamical complications of this region have been successfully modeled on individual bases. Some of the major remaining problems of this region are discussed, in particular the nitric oxide concentration, a gas affecting the ratio of the two major E-region ions, O2(+) and NO(+). The D-region is much simpler than the E-region from a dynamical point of view but extremely much more complex from a chemical standpoint. Recent results from a study of the D-region under bombardment by solar protons is emphasized.

This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is increasingly being considered a critical topic in research and policy-making. Evidences related to climate change deal with spatial and non-spatial data, which can be utilized for policy formulation. Geoinformatics, which includes remote sensing, GIS, GPS, and ICT, provides the most relevant technology to monitor climate change-related variables at different dimensions and scales. Geoinformatics for Climate Change Studies discusses the art of using this technology for investigating, monitoring, documenting, and understanding the impacts of climate change. This book provides information on the concepts and uses of geoinformatics, and focuses on filling the gap in the available literature on the subject by bringing together concepts, theories, and experiences of experts in this field.

Book Early Childhood Learning in a MusicaL UNI VERSE

Download or read book Early Childhood Learning in a MusicaL UNI VERSE written by Andi Bowe and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viewing the cultures of four different types of West Coast early learning environments in the United States through the eyes of the teachers themselves, variables important to lifelong evolution of musical talents and the metacognitive benefits of music and movement will be explored and synthesized. Brain-based research in recent years has revealed just how important musical experiences in early life might be to establishing healthy and holistic patterns of learning (Louv, 2005, 2008; NIH, 2012; Nager & Shapiro, 2000; Restak, 2004, 2005). By analyzing and synthesizing theories of open systems with ecological systems theories, multiple intelligences theories, and theories about the innate force of inner motivation and the power of movement and musically informed play, a new lens or world view can emerge to aid in understanding and utilizing holistic learning.

Book Methane Hydrates in Quaternary Climate Change

Download or read book Methane Hydrates in Quaternary Climate Change written by James P. Kennett and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 2003-01-10 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent discoveries from ice-core and marine sediments suggest that global climate systems can change from glacial to near-interglacial temperatures within decades. In order to explain this phenomenon, the authors (all affiliated with the Department of Geological Sciences, U. of California) advance a hypothesis that suggests that the massive energy needed for these changes came for the release of "frozen" methane hydrates (clathrates) stored in marine sediments on continental margins. They argue that the release of the methane caused feedback processes that would explain the surprisingly rapid changes. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
