Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A General Description of Orange County, Florida: Its Soil, Climate, Health, Productions, Resources, and Facilities of Transportation The committee appointed by the Orange County Immigration Society to prepare for publication a pamphlet descriptive of Orange County, respectfully submit the following pages from the pen of Dr. Z. H. Mason, believing that they will prove trustworthy and reliable as a source of information concerning the Soil, Climate, Products, Resources and Advantages of the County. The committee beg leave to take this opportunity of expressing the obligation they are under to Dr. Mason, who, at their request, assumed solely the labor and responsibility of authorship. Dr. Mason has been well known for many years as an able and conservative writer on Florida, and brings to his aid more than twenty years of residence and experience in semi-tropical fruit culture and farming, and is thus able to speak advisedly of the resources, and of what can be profitably grown in this section of the State. To use his own words, he has in the following pages "confined himself to a plain statement of facts without embellishment, believing that inquirers want truth not fiction." The article "Orange County as a Home for Invalids," is worthy the careful consideration of those whose health require that they should seek a climate with mild winters and pleasant summers. Information not contained in this pamphlet, can be had by addressing the Secretary or either of the officers of the Society. All letters containing return postage will be promptly answered. It is requested that inquirers write their questions on sheets separate from their letters and leave space under each question for the answer. This book was released on 2017 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars agree that global climate change is a major threat to the physical environment, affecting all aspects of life on the planet. However, the general public do not feel that climate change is a major risk or threat, especially to humans. It is important to understand the public's perception and opinions of climate change as it affects and influences the creation and passing of climate change adaptation and mitigation policies. Specifically, little is known about public perceptions in regards to the greater health risk imposed by global climate change. This study examines the public's perception of health risks related to climate change in Broward County, Florida by using mixed methods. An online survey was conducted along with in-person interviews with the general public and a physician. The study found majority of respondents to believe climate change affects health, but lacked an understanding of how it is harmful to their health. It also found that gender affects their perceptions and political ideology appears to have an effect, but the effect of socioeconomic status on their perceptions were unable to be determined at this time. Broward is just developing policies to adapt and mitigate the health effects of climate change.

Book Climate Change and Heat Impacts on Health for Florida

Download or read book Climate Change and Heat Impacts on Health for Florida written by Emily Vanessa Leary and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Missingness during June, July, August, the warmest months of the warm season. Conclusions about the association between heat waves and the health indicators depended on both the method of imputation and the modeling approach. All time-series models had significant overdispersion, a factor that the case-crossover analysis does not consider. Conclusions: Missing data considerations are important when defining periods of extreme heat. Because inference is impacted by both model and imputed data, the combination of using a Poisson time-series model with spatio-temporally imputed data is recommended. The association between extreme heat and heat-related morbidity is a complex one that depends on region. Insufficient heat-related mortality cases were available for a meaningful regional analysis. No significant association between heat waves and all-cause mortality was observed.
