Book Clean Energy Manufacturing

Download or read book Clean Energy Manufacturing written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The capital intensive nature of clean energy technologies suggests that manufacturing clean energy equipment has the potential to support state and local economic development efforts. However, manufacturing siting decisions tend to be complex and multi-variable decision processes that require in-depth knowledge of specific markets, the logistical requirements of a given technology, and insight into global clean tech trends. This presentation highlights the potential of manufacturing in supporting economic development opportunities while also providing examples of the financial considerations affecting manufacturing facility siting decisions for wind turbine blades and solar PV. The presentation also includes discussion of other more qualitative drivers of facility siting decisions as gleaned from NREL industry interviews and discusses strategies state and local policymakers may employee to bolster their chances of successfully attracting clean energy manufacturers to their localities.

Book The Economic Competitiveness of Renewable Energy

Download or read book The Economic Competitiveness of Renewable Energy written by Winfried Hoffmann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a comprehensive picture of today’s energy world, describes the potential for energy savings that can be achieved, and analyzes the technology developments which will lead to a 100% renewable energy-powered world The world is at the crossroads of either quickly changing the energy picture towards implementing efficient renewable energy sources or postponing this process by another generation. Based on the author’s more than 30 years’ industrial experience, this book gives a set of assumptions by extrapolating known technology developments and shows that 100% coverage by renewable technology of global energy needs is much more probable than previously argued. Basic facts using "rule of thumb" and "order-of-magnitude" considerations underpin the author’s argument. The book shows how energy efficiency technologies will be able to drastically reduce the energy consumption for the same quality of life. The most relevant renewable energy technologies are discussed. Solar photovoltaic, solar thermal concentrators, solar thermal wind, as well as biomass and biofuels, hydro, geothermal, wave, and tidal technologies are debated. The conclusion of this unique book shows how and why the renewable technologies will be cost competitive and even superior to the traditional technologies in the mid-term. Market-pull instead of technology-push provide the increase of the cumulative installed volume of the new renewable technologies, thereby driving down the specific price of the critical components along Price Experience Curves.

Book Economic Clean Energy Benefits of Establishing a Competitive Wholesale Electricity Market in the Southeast United States

Download or read book Economic Clean Energy Benefits of Establishing a Competitive Wholesale Electricity Market in the Southeast United States written by Christopher T M Clack and published by Vibrant Clean Energy, LLC. This book was released on 2020-08-15 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vibrant Clean Energy (VCE®) partnered with Energy Innovations to study the potential impact of a regional transmission organization (RTO) for the Southeastern United States (SE-RTO). The modeling (using WIS:dom®-P) found that with an RTO the region could save $384 billion by 2040, create 285,000 full time jobs, reduce emissions by 37% and provide transparency in the region. The team modeled four scenarios. Importantly, the first scenario mimicked the utilities’ integrated resource plans (IRPs) and found that an increase in thermal generation exceeded requirements and inflated costs. Conversely, the SE-RTO scenario reduced the dependency on thermal generation and shifted to low-cost variable generation. One of the sensitivity scenarios studied an alternative IRP, which allowed for competitive build out and economic dispatch. This scenario produced approximately 60% of the savings of the SE-RTO. Finally, a fourth scenario determined the benefit of an SE-RTO when nuclear power plants remained online through 2040. This scenario was very slightly more expensive than the SE-RTO scenario, but had far fewer emissions. Interestingly wind power, in the modeling, became an important contribution to the electricity mix. With it increasingly providing capacity requirements for winter demand profiles. Further, the modeling found that distributed energy resources (DERs) and their co-optimization provided 10% of the system savings.
