Download or read book Paw Learning Mazes written by Karen Petit and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paw Learning Mazes has maze poems, sonnets, and narrative poems with a lot of action and interaction between people and animals. Action also happens between animals and animals, as this stanza from the poem “Paws Learning in a Jungle” shows: “The mother was the first monkey to smell and to see the tiger that had been hiding in a different tree, but now was moving toward the mother’s only child that was too scared to run off into a jungle wild.” Different kinds of learning happen in Paw Learning Mazes, including writing, reading, financial literacy, STEM, visual, aural, historic, and multi-modal. People and animals can also learn within their dreams and from each other, as illustrated in “A Cat Learning How to Fly,” “Hissing for Free Space,” and “A Cat and a Dog Competing to Write Faster.” Team learning is seen in multiple poems, such as in “Team Learning for Ants.” Interaction between animals and people happens in “Learning with Birds in Roger Williams Park,” “A Dog Helping Her Owner to Read Fast,” “Pigeons Flying to Financial Literacy,” “Cats Grading Essays,” “A STEM Dream about an Egret,” and many other poems in this book. Paw Learning Mazes has thirty-four mazes, which are parts of eight maze poems. These mazes and eighteen pictures add to the multi-modal elements of this book’s poetry.

Download or read book Giuseppe s Dresser written by Vernon Farris and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-08-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One night, while visiting San Francisco, I had a intriguing encounter with a distressed and well traveled dresser. This chance meeting sparked the gray matter deep inside my skull. I became obsessed with writing and illustrating a childrens book about a dresser! It was my opportunity to express my art and explore the world of words. Being a giant six foot, 250 pound child myself, it seemed quite natural to write a book for kids. . So after many, many, re-writes, I am proud to present Giuseppes Dresser. Take a nostalgic journey and visit the town of Falling Leaf Falls. In the year 1939, this quaint little town, deep in the heart of Maine, had 932 inhabitants. Acts of kindness and good deeds were the order for every day. Children used their imagination to play. Hand held electronic devices didnt exist. The good town folk worked very hard and when a holiday rolled around they rewarded themselves with a joyous celebration. Our hero, Giuseppe, was the town craftsman. He created many carousel animals for many a circus. My story begins when a spoiled, little girl asked him to make her a beautiful dresser. In this case, our hero creates another hero with the secret of his magic. Perhaps the most incredible piece of furniture ever created. Give a read and see how this dresser changes the lives of every child it comes in contact with.

Download or read book Reconsidering Olmec Visual Culture written by Carolyn E. Tate and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2012-01-18 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, scholars of Olmec visual culture have identified symbols for umbilical cords, bundles, and cave-wombs, as well as a significant number of women portrayed on monuments and as figurines. In this groundbreaking study, Carolyn Tate demonstrates that these subjects were part of a major emphasis on gestational imagery in Formative Period Mesoamerica. In Reconsidering Olmec Visual Culture, she identifies the presence of women, human embryos, and fetuses in monuments and portable objects dating from 1400 to 400 BC and originating throughout much of Mesoamerica. This highly original study sheds new light on the prominent roles that women and gestational beings played in Early Formative societies, revealing female shamanic practices, the generative concepts that motivated caching and bundling, and the expression of feminine knowledge in the 260-day cycle and related divinatory and ritual activities. Reconsidering Olmec Visual Culture is the first study that situates the unique hollow babies of Formative Mesoamerica within the context of prominent females and the prevalent imagery of gestation and birth. It is also the first major art historical study of La Venta and the first to identify Mesoamerica's earliest creation narrative. It provides a more nuanced understanding of how later societies, including Teotihuacan and West Mexico, as well as the Maya, either rejected certain Formative Period visual forms, rituals, social roles, and concepts or adopted and transformed them into the enduring themes of Mesoamerican symbol systems.
