Book Occupational Job Evaluation

Download or read book Occupational Job Evaluation written by Wilfredo Manese and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1988-06-22 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most difficult questions facing human resource managers in both the public and private sectors is how to determine the relative worth of different types of jobs and to set compensation accordingly. A recent innovation developed at the Bell System and field-tested by Northwestern Bell offers the most comprehensive and practical approach to this problem yet devised. Occupational Job Evaluation (OJE) reduces job content to a numerical scale that provides a common denominator for evaluating diverse positions. Written by a human resources specialist who was directly involved in the development and testing of OJE, this book offers a complete analysis of the system together with data on its application and potential uses outside the telecommunications industry.

Book Work Jobs and Occupations

Download or read book Work Jobs and Occupations written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1980-02-01 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various editions of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles have served as the Employment Service's basic tool for matching workers and jobs. The Dictionary of Occupational Titles has also played an important role in establishing skill and training requirements and developing Employment Service testing batteries for specific occupations. However, the role of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles has been called into question as a result of planned changes in the operation of the Employment Service. A plan to automate the operations of Employment Service offices using a descriptive system of occupational keywords rather than occupational titles has led to a claim that a dictionary of occupational titles and the occupational research program that produces it are outmoded. Since the automated keyword system does not rely explicitly on defined occupational titles, it is claimed that the new system would reduce costs by eliminating the need for a research program to supply the occupational definitions. In light of these considerations, the present volume evaluates the future need for the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

Download or read book The Changing Nature of Work written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-09-07 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there is great debate about how work is changing, there is a clear consensus that changes are fundamental and ongoing. The Changing Nature of Work examines the evidence for change in the world of work. The committee provides a clearly illustrated framework for understanding changes in work and these implications for analyzing the structure of occupations in both the civilian and military sectors. This volume explores the increasing demographic diversity of the workforce, the fluidity of boundaries between lines of work, the interdependent choices for how work is structured-and ultimately, the need for an integrated systematic approach to understanding how work is changing. The book offers a rich array of data and highlighted examples on: Markets, technology, and many other external conditions affecting the nature of work. Research findings on American workers and how they feel about work. Downsizing and the trend toward flatter organizational hierarchies. Autonomy, complexity, and other aspects of work structure. The committee reviews the evolution of occupational analysis and examines the effectiveness of the latest systems in characterizing current and projected changes in civilian and military work. The occupational structure and changing work requirements in the Army are presented as a case study.

Book A Student Job Classification Plan for Colleges and Universities

Download or read book A Student Job Classification Plan for Colleges and Universities written by Frank C. Adams and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a companion volume to their widely-read College and University Student Work Programs the authors have prepared this manual of student job classifications. In their Introduction they note that some type of student job classification is necessary whether a university or college employs a small or a large number of students. A school's system may range from simply a job title for payroll purposes to a highly developed multiple-purpose plan. Withal, the authors point out, the practical necessities require that the classification plan employed shall be the basis for hourly rates, occupational group regulations, promotions, merit increases, and bonus rates for after-hours or special work-hour occupations. To assist student work offices and other administrators responsible for employing student workers, the authors have developed this comprehensive classification plan. The plan groups jobs into five major occupational divisions. A list of the individual jobs by code number and job title is included under each occupational group. In addition, each job title has a job description--the characteristics of the job, duties required; responsibilities entailed, qualifications (basic and desirable) required, and length of training period needed for performance of the job.
