Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The appearance of Banach's book [8] in 1932 signified the beginning of a syste matic study of normed linear spaces, which have been the subject of continuous research ever since. In the sixties, and especially in the last decade, the research activity in this area grew considerably. As a result, Ban:ach space theory gained very much in depth as well as in scope: Most of its well known classical problems were solved, many interesting new directions were developed, and deep connections between Banach space theory and other areas of mathematics were established. The purpose of this book is to present the main results and current research directions in the geometry of Banach spaces, with an emphasis on the study of the structure of the classical Banach spaces, that is C(K) and Lip.) and related spaces. We did not attempt to write a comprehensive survey of Banach space theory, or even only of the theory of classical Banach spaces, since the amount of interesting results on the subject makes such a survey practically impossible.

Book Classical Banach Spaces I and II

Download or read book Classical Banach Spaces I and II written by Joram Lindenstrauss and published by Boom Koninklijke Uitgevers. This book was released on 1996 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Springer-Verlag began publishing books in higher mathematics in 1920, when the seriesGrundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften, initially conceived as a series of advanced textbooks, was founded by Richard Courant. A few years later a new series Ergebnisse der Mathematik und ihrer Grenzgebiete, survey reports of recent mathematical research, was added. Of over 400 books published in these series, many have become recognized classics and remain standard references for their subject. Springer is reissuing a selected few of these highly successful books in a new, inexpensive sofcover edition to make them easily accessible to younger generations of students and researchers. Classical Banach Spaces I and II From the reviews: “...the book is written in the best tradition of the beautiful series in which it appears. The material it presents is hard to find in other books. For people working in the structure theory of Banach spaces it will be most valuable as a source of references and inspiration. For those who wish to learn the subject the book deserves a warm welcome too.” Medelingen van het Wiskundig Genootschap “...The geometry of Banach lattices is a rich, beautiful, ... and rewarding subject. The proof is in the reading and perusing of the masterpiece.” Zentrablatt für Mathematik

Book Analysis in Banach Spaces

Download or read book Analysis in Banach Spaces written by Tuomas Hytönen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. In turn, the next two chapters provide a detailed treatment of the theory of R-boundedness and Banach space valued square functions developed over the last 20 years. In the last chapter, this content is applied to develop the holomorphic functional calculus of sectorial and bi-sectorial operators in Banach spaces. Given its breadth of coverage, this book will be an invaluable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, spectral theory, stochastic analysis, and the operator-theoretic approach to deterministic and stochastic evolution equations.

Book The Isometric Theory of Classical Banach Spaces

Download or read book The Isometric Theory of Classical Banach Spaces written by H.E. Lacey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present the main structure theorems in the isometric theory of classical Banach spaces. Elements of general topology, measure theory, and Banach spaces are assumed to be familiar to the reader. A classical Banach space is a Banach space X whose dual space is linearly isometric to Lp(j1, IR) (or Lp(j1, CC) in the complex case) for some measure j1 and some 1 ~ p ~ 00. If 1

Book excerpt: While Volume I (by W.A.J. Luxemburg and A.C. Zaanen, NHML Volume 1, 1971) is devoted to the algebraic aspects of the theory, this volume emphasizes the analytical theory of Riesz spaces and operators between these spaces. Though the numbering of chapters continues on from the first volume, this does not imply that everything covered in Volume I is required for this volume, however the two volumes are to some extent complementary.

Book Probability in Banach Spaces

Download or read book Probability in Banach Spaces written by Michel Ledoux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isoperimetric, measure concentration and random process techniques appear at the basis of the modern understanding of Probability in Banach spaces. Based on these tools, the book presents a complete treatment of the main aspects of Probability in Banach spaces (integrability and limit theorems for vector valued random variables, boundedness and continuity of random processes) and of some of their links to Geometry of Banach spaces (via the type and cotype properties). Its purpose is to present some of the main aspects of this theory, from the foundations to the most important achievements. The main features of the investigation are the systematic use of isoperimetry and concentration of measure and abstract random process techniques (entropy and majorizing measures). Examples of these probabilistic tools and ideas to classical Banach space theory are further developed.

Book Bases in Banach Spaces II

Download or read book Bases in Banach Spaces II written by Ivan Singer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance, in 1970, of Vol. I of the present monograph 1370], the theory of bases in Banach spaces has developed substantially. Therefore, the present volume contains only Ch. III of the monograph, instead of Ch. Ill, IV and V, as was planned initially (cp. the table of contents of Vol. I). Since this volume is a continuation of Vol. I of the same monograph, we shall refer to the results of Vol. I directly as results of Ch. I or Ch. II (without specifying Vol. I). On the other hand, sometimes we shall also mention that certain results will be considered in Vol. III (Ch. IV, V). In spite of the many new advances made in this field, the statement in the Preface to Vol. I, that "the existing books on functional analysis contain only a few results on bases", remains still valid, with the exception of the recent book [248 a] of J. Lindenstrauss and L. Tzafriri. Since we have learned about [248 a] only in 1978, in this volume there are only references to previous works, instead of [248 a]; however, this will cause no inconvenience, since the intersec tion of the present volume with [248 a] is very small. Let us also mention the appearance, since 1970, of some survey papers on bases in Banach spaces (V. D. Milman [287], [288], C. W. McArthur [275]; M. I. Kadec [204], § 3 and others).
