Download or read book The Economic History of Britain since 1700 written by Roderick Floud and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-08-18 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An economic history of Britain since 1700, in three volumes by thirty-nine eminent historians and economists, this book will succeed the first edition of "Floud and McCloskey" (published in 1981) as the leading textbook on its subject. The text has a firm economic basis, but emphasizes the historical context and chronology and is written in straightforward and jargon-free English. Volume 1 covers the period 1700-1860, that of Britain's rise to relative economic supremacy. Volume 2 discusses the period 1860-1939, that of the height of British economic power and of painful readjustment after 1914. Volume 3 considers the period since 1939, that of relative economic decline and of increasing involvement with the European Community.

Download or read book Design of Energy efficient Buildings written by Sassan Mohasseb and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nowadays, the energy crisis is one of the controversial issues around the world. Regarding the fact that the largest energy end use in the world belongs to the construction and residential sector, it seems necessary to analyze the energy flow in the buildings. The most sustainable energy design technique is to conserve energy as much as possible. There are various methods to reduce the use of conventional energy from fossil fuels to meet the energy requirement for the building. Various strategies including photovoltaic-thermal systems and insulation systems with the aim of minimizing building energy in different climate conditions (Cold-weather/Hot weather) were presented and assessed in the first chapter. A comprehensive work was carried out to investigate the effect of adding nanoparticles as concrete additives on both pore structure and thermophysical properties of the concrete at different ages. Besides, the behavioral models using Genetic Algorithm (GA) programming were developed to describe the time-dependent behavioral characteristics of nanoparticle blended concrete samples in various compressive and tensile stress states. Chapter 3 deals with the traditional energy saving techniques to highlight the potential of learning from traditional architecture and adopting their experiences to fulfill modern expectations. In this regard, Iranian classical architecture, particularly at hot arid climate, is taken into account. On the other hand, geothermal energy as one of the most significant alternative sources of thermal and electrical energy have been discussed. To address the growing demand of power generation and its related challenges of the existing electrical power grid, Smart Grid (SG) systems comes as a solution that lays in taking the world forward to reach energy independence and environmentally sustainable economic growth. The final chapter provides various information about the smart grid systems and the efficiency of such systems is analyzed through a detailed case study"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Longshot, an exercise in the Advanced Design Program for Space, had as its destination Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to our own solar system. Alpha Centauri, a trinary star system, is 4.34 light years from earth. Although Project Longshot is impossible based on existing technologies, areas that require further investigation in order to make this feat possible are identified. Three areas where advances in technology are needed are propulsion, data processing for autonomous command and control functions, and reliability. Propulsion, possibly by antimatter annihilation; navigation and navigation aids; reliable hardware and instruments; artificial intelligence to eliminate the need for command telemetry; laser communication; and a reliable, compact, and lightweight power system that converts energy efficiently and reliably present major challenges. Project Longshot promises exciting advances in science and technology and new information concerning the universe. Download or read book Zink written by Cherie Bennett and published by Dramatic Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Zink is about true courage in the face of unpredictable predators. In an age where too many are quick to confront fears and differences with senseless violence, Zink exemplifies the importance of tolerance and acceptance. Imaginative, funny, and heartbreaking, this allegory features a pre-teen girl with leukemia and a herd of talking African zebras whom she meets when she is diagnosed with her life-threatening illness. The zebras include street-smart Ice Z, grandfatherly Papa Zeke and pompous Zilch, along with Shlep, a furry green monkey who's certain he's also a zebra. The zebras recount to her their legend of Zink, a mythical polka-dotted zebra once an outcast but later a hero. As Becky's condition worsens and she is mistreated by some classmates, she zaps back and forth between real life and the zebra world, until the shattering, breathtaking, and uplifting climax."--Publisher's description."
