Book The Medium the Mystic and the Physicist

Download or read book The Medium the Mystic and the Physicist written by Lawrence Leshan and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1974, this groundbreaking volume relates field theory of altered states of consciousness and compares the surprisingly similar views of mediums, mystics, and physicists. When renowned psychologist Lawrence LeShan first explored clairvoyance and precognition it shook his belief in everyday reality. As a result, it led him to postulate other states of consciousness, which he calls “Clairvoyant Reality” and “Transpsychic Reality.” Although LeShan was trained in the traditional scientific method, he discovered that these altered realities—including the knowledge of future events, the ability to heal from great distances, and other paranormal phenomena—operated according to their own laws. Filled with mesmerizing case examples, quotations, and observations from LeShan’s own personal experience, The Medium, the Mystic, and the Physicist includes LeShan’s essay, “Human Survival on Biological Death,” where he brings a fresh perspective to the theory of the afterlife. A classic guide for the study of parapsychology, readers will be intrigued by this collection of unique ideas. • A classic in the field, often thought of as the author’s best work • Author is renowned as a psychologist and a leader in the modern study of mind-body interaction Allworth Press, an imprint of Skyhorse Publishing, publishes a broad range of books on the visual and performing arts, with emphasis on the business of art. Book The Reality of ESP

Download or read book The Reality of ESP written by Russell Targ and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On February 4, 1974, members of the Symbionese Liberation Army kidnapped nineteen-year-old newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst from her Berkeley, California apartment. Desperate to find her, the police called physicist Russell Targ and Pat Price, a psychic retired police commissioner. As Price turned the pages of the police mug book filled with hundreds of photos, suddenly he pointed to one of them and announced, “That’s the ringleader.” The man was Donald DeFreeze, who was indeed subsequently so identified. Price also described the type and location of the kidnap car, enabling the police to find it within minutes. That remarkable event is one reason Targ believes in ESP. Another occurred when his group made $120,000 by forecasting for nine weeks in a row the changes in the silver-commodity futures market As a scientist, Targ demands proof. His experience is based on two decades of investigations at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), which he cofounded with physicist Harold Puthoff in 1972. This twenty-million dollar program launched during the Cold War was supported by the CIA, NASA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and Army and Air Force Intelligence. The experiments they conducted routinely presented results could have happened by chance less than once in a million. Targ describes four types of experiments: Remote Viewing, in which a person describes places and events independent of space and time. For example, while in California Price drew to scale a Soviet weapons factory at Semipalitinsk with great accuracy later confirmed by Satellite photography. In another remote viewing, Targ accurately sketched an airport in San Andreas, Columbia himself. Distant Mental Influence, where the thoughts of the experimenter can positively or negatively affect the physiology (heart rate, skin resistance, etc.) of a distant person. Whole field isolation, where someone in a state of sensory isolation accurately describes the visual experiences of someone else in another place Precognition and retrocausality, showing that the future can affect the past. That is, the elephant you see on television in the morning can be the cause of your having dreamed about elephants the previous night. Final chapters present evidence for survival after death; explain how ESP works based on the Buddhist/Hindu view of our selves as nonlocal, eternal awareness; discuss the ethics of exercising psychic abilities, and show us how to explore ESP ourselves. “I am convinced,” Targ says, “that most people can learn to move from their ordinary mind to one not obstructed by conventional barriers of space and time. Who would not want to try that?”

Book The Third Level of Reality

Download or read book The Third Level of Reality written by Percy Seymour and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2003-03-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third Level of Reality is a reprint of a book by Percy Seymour originally titled The Paranormal: Beyond Sensory Science. This edition features a new foreword by Colin Wilson. TOTAL REALITY CONSISTS OF THREE LEVELS. The first level of reality is the reality of the five senses. The second level of reality is that which results from the response of humans and animals to magnetic fields. This response can not only be used to find direction, time, and location in space, but it also allows us to understand some of the links between human personality and the state of the cosmos at the birth of each individual. The third level of reality requires a reformulation of our concepts of space and time. The main concept at the basis of this level is that some pairs of points in space, anchored on two types of subatomic particle, are linked by two different levels of space, only one of which is accessible to our five normal senses and scientific instruments. This other space-let's call it extrasensory space-is not limited by the speed of light. Here particles and events are instantaneously linked to those particles and events with which they last interacted. This approach to space and time makes it possible to understand a wide variety of phenomena relating to subatomic physics and to phenomena that we currently classify as paranormal, including the human aura, apparitions, telepathy, clairvoyance, and our ability to look into the future.

Book Advances in Parapsychological Research

Download or read book Advances in Parapsychological Research written by Stanley Krippner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montague Ullman The second volume of this series includes essays on methods and issues in ESP research (Morris), research findings in ESP (Palmer), and theories of psi (Rao). It thus complements the areas covered in Volume 1, the two volumes taken together providing the reader with a sound grounding in the progress and achievements of parapsychological research from its inception to the present day. What is immediately striking is the rapid increase in the amount and variety of experimental reports appearing in the last decade and the increasing number of centers in which research is being carried out. Work in parapsychology is moving toward a broader disciplinary base, the use of more imaginative technology, greater academic support, and more activity on an international scale. These are promising signs of a rapprochement between parapsychological research and the mainstream of science. Robert O. Becker, in his preface to Volume 1, holds out the hope that parapsychology will lead the way to a new view of the biological or ganism, one going beyond mechanism to "a new vision of the human being and his place in the universe" (Becker, 1977). Heavy as this respon sibility may be, a careful reading of the present volume should persuade the reader that a new view is very much in order.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This influential book shows how the systematic use of mental imagery can have a positive influence on the course of disease and can help patients to cope with pain. In Imagery in Healing, Jeanne Achterberg brings together modern scientific research and the practices of the earliest healers to support her claim that imagery is the world's oldest and most powerful healing resource. The book has become a classic in the field of alternative medicine and continues to be read by new generations of health care professionals and lay people. In Imagery in Healing, Achterberg explores in detail the role of the imagination in the healing process. She begins with an exploration of the tradition of shamanism, "the medicine of the imagination," surveying this time-honored way of touching the nexus of the mind, body, and soul. She then traces the history of the use of imagery within Western medicine, including a look at contemporary examples of how health care professionals have drawn on the power of the imagination through such methods as hypnosis, biofeedback, and the placebo effect. Ultimately, Achterberg looks to the science of immunology to uncover the most effective ground for visualization, and she presents data demonstrating how imagery can have a direct and profound impact on the workings of the immune system. Drawing on art, science, history, anthropology, and medicine, Imagery in Healing offers a highly readable overview of the profound and complex relationship between the imagination and the body.

Book Miracles and Other Realities

Download or read book Miracles and Other Realities written by Lee Pulos and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once in a generation, a person of extraordinary psychic powers comes along. Miracles and Other Realities tells the true story of Thomaz Green Morton, a gifted psychic from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. Originally published in 1990 and now rereleased for a modern audience, Miracles and Other Realities recounts the fascinating story of Thomaz Green Morton and his powerful psychic abilities. This book will turn the heads of scientists, whose traditional acceptance of reality has been limited to that which can be measured objectively, and will introduce to a wider audience the power of mind over matter. Thomaz’s story begins when he is struck by lightning on his twelfth birthday. This electrical insult to his body detonated a dazzling range of paranormal abilities. (Severe electric shock is, incidentally, common to the childhood experience of every major psychic.) Thomaz has since been called the most powerful psychic in the world. Driven by his mind to the farther reaches of reality to produce psychic phenomena such as metal-bending, spiritual healing, and transmutations of matter, Thomaz’s feats are well-documented by the authors. The story is all the more captivating because Thomaz is graced with a childlike emotional temperament, making him intent on living life to its fullest. Coauthors Lee Pulos and Gary Richman explore through Thomaz the ways in which magic, or miracles, challenges the conventional view of reality, thereby shaking up rational belief systems that inhibit the experience of new realms of possibility. Readers will find Thomaz’s story compelling, not only as a real-life example of human potential but as a metaphor for unleashing other realities and levels of consciousness to tap into the potential within themselves.

Book Psychic Healing

Download or read book Psychic Healing written by John Weldon and published by ATRI Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-13 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You might expect this book to ridicule the whole idea of psychic healing—surgery without anesthesia instantly closed wounds and other bizarre phenomena relating to this occult science. Rather than labeling psychic healing quackery or trickery or cheap magic the authors verify the fact that psychic healing is very real and the ramifications are horrifying. Normal people cannot heal psychically. Only occultists can. In “genuine” psychic healing demonic energy is employed. Eyewitness accounts of weird operations dematerializing flesh and other mind-boggling evidences abound in this text. More than just one of the strangest and most disturbing books you may ever read this is a carefully researched heavily documented exposé of an alarming otherworld practice.
