Download or read book The Liberal War on Transparency written by Christopher C. Horner and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed by Glenn Beck as a “Watchdog,” bestselling author and legal expert Christopher Horner explains how every citizen can use the Freedom of Information Act to find out what our government is up to. LIBERALS ARE HIDING THE TRUTH FROM YOU. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT, AMERICA? Hailed by Glenn Beck as a “watchdog” and by Rush Limbaugh as a “go-to guy,” bestselling author and attorney Christopher C. Horner is a leader in the fight against liberal tyranny in America—with his requests for information even declared “criminal” by the Obama administration. Revealing explosive new information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and well-placed sources, Horner exposes the tightly kept secret of liberals running our government and schools: a carefully managed war to undermine the taxpayers’ right to see what their government is up to. During his campaign, Barack Obama promised “the most transparent administration in history.” Not only has this proven to be an empty promise, but he and his liberal allies systematically hide their activities from the public. They use private email accounts and computers, avoid creating records, stonewall information requests, and otherwise delay or deny access to information every taxpayer has a right to know. This eye-opening book exposes the White House tricks, tactics, and “tradecraft” now regularly used to keep Americans in the dark. You’ll learn: * Scandalous examples of activist government employee tricks to hide their activities. * How the Obama administration, which leaks sensitive information for political gain (while aggressively prosecuting whistleblowers), deliberately politicized the FOIA process to stonewall legitimate requests for public information. * What the Democrats tried to hide about their crony deals with big business, Solyndra, various liberal initiatives, and UN schemes. * How American colleges and universities bow to radical liberal faculties to hide public records. * How to fight these tactics and make your own FOIA requests to get the information you need—even when the government tries to stop you. This is more than an exposé on the latest Washington cover-up. It is a wake-up call and how-to manual for all Americans to demand transparency from our leaders and defeat the liberal attack on open and honest debate. If you believe in America, you need to fight for your freedoms. You need to take a stand against the Liberal War on Transparency.

This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Bruce Schneier’s amazing book is the best overview of privacy and security ever written.”—Clay Shirky Your cell phone provider tracks your location and knows who’s with you. Your online and in-store purchasing patterns are recorded, and reveal if you're unemployed, sick, or pregnant. Your e-mails and texts expose your intimate and casual friends. Google knows what you’re thinking because it saves your private searches. Facebook can determine your sexual orientation without you ever mentioning it. The powers that surveil us do more than simply store this information. Corporations use surveillance to manipulate not only the news articles and advertisements we each see, but also the prices we’re offered. Governments use surveillance to discriminate, censor, chill free speech, and put people in danger worldwide. And both sides share this information with each other or, even worse, lose it to cybercriminals in huge data breaches. Much of this is voluntary: we cooperate with corporate surveillance because it promises us convenience, and we submit to government surveillance because it promises us protection. The result is a mass surveillance society of our own making. But have we given up more than we’ve gained? In Data and Goliath, security expert Bruce Schneier offers another path, one that values both security and privacy. He brings his bestseller up-to-date with a new preface covering the latest developments, and then shows us exactly what we can do to reform government surveillance programs, shake up surveillance-based business models, and protect our individual privacy. You'll never look at your phone, your computer, your credit cards, or even your car in the same way again.
Download or read book Transparency and Dissimulation written by Verena Olejniczak Lobsien and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transparency and Dissimulation analyses the configurations of ancient neoplatonism in early modern English texts. In looking closely at poems and prose writings by authors as diverse as Thomas Wyatt, Philip Sidney, Edmund Spenser, John Donne, Edward Herbert, Andrew Marvell, Thomas Traherne, Thomas Browne and, last not least, Aphra Behn, this study attempts to map the outlines of a neoplatonic aesthetics in literary practice as well as to chart its transformative potential in the shifting contexts of cultural turbulency and denominational conflict in 16th- and 17th-century England. As part of a "new", contextually aware, aesthetics, it seeks to determine some of the functions neoplatonic structures - such as forms of recursivity or certain modes of apophatic speech - are capable of fulfilling in combination and interaction with other, heterogeneous or even ideologically incompatible elements. What emerges is a surprisingly versatile poetics of excess and enigma, with strong Plotinian and Erigenist accents. This appears to need the traditional ingredients of petrarchism or courtliness only as material for the formation of new and dynamic wholes, revealing its radical metaphysical potential above all in the way it helps to resist the easy answers - in religion, science, or the fashions of libertine love.

Download or read book The Progress Principle written by Teresa Amabile and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What really sets the best managers above the rest? It’s their power to build a cadre of employees who have great inner work lives—consistently positive emotions; strong motivation; and favorable perceptions of the organization, their work, and their colleagues. The worst managers undermine inner work life, often unwittingly. As Teresa Amabile and Steven Kramer explain in The Progress Principle, seemingly mundane workday events can make or break employees’ inner work lives. But it’s forward momentum in meaningful work—progress—that creates the best inner work lives. Through rigorous analysis of nearly 12,000 diary entries provided by 238 employees in 7 companies, the authors explain how managers can foster progress and enhance inner work life every day. The book shows how to remove obstacles to progress, including meaningless tasks and toxic relationships. It also explains how to activate two forces that enable progress: (1) catalysts—events that directly facilitate project work, such as clear goals and autonomy—and (2) nourishers—interpersonal events that uplift workers, including encouragement and demonstrations of respect and collegiality. Brimming with honest examples from the companies studied, The Progress Principle equips aspiring and seasoned leaders alike with the insights they need to maximize their people’s performance.

Download or read book Transparency and Public Accountability Fiscal Mismanagement Lack of Public Accountability written by Nihal Sri Ameresekere and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book appallingly unravels insights into fiscal mismanagement devoid of public accountability, under the purview of IMF, World Bank, ADB, international developmental agencies, et al. Perverse amnesties were surreptitiously enacted into law by Parliament, transgressing the social contract and public trust doctrine, also frustrating the right of the citizenry to challenge their constitutionality. Amnesties granted immunity and pardon for offences, such as, terrorism funding, money laundering, drug peddling, human trafficking, proceeds of crime, etc., in contravention of international conventions, including UN Security Council Resolution on terrorism financing. The Supreme Court condemned the Statute, as 'inimical to the rule of law', 'violative of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenant on Civil & Political Rights', and 'had defrauded public revenue, causing extensive loss to the State'. Consequent controversy resulted in the ouster of the Government, with the new Government repealing the perverse law; however, with strange resistance against enforcement ! The Book also reveals how Parliament ignored an Auditor General's Special Report on gross negligence of revenue administration and colossal VAT frauds, with tardy enforcement of the 'rule of law'. ! The Book also deals with challenges in the Supreme Court against the Appropriation Bill, the Budget, for non-disclosure of borrowings and for lacking transparency, with the Ministry of Finance being castigated for operating a 'Budget within a Budget', with dubious expenditures, sans accountability. This Book reveals realities in fiscal mismanagement at highest levels, disclosing indifference and condoning by international agencies ! This is an invaluable Book for advocates of good governance and combat of economic crime, fraud and corruption, and those interested in public finance and law, and constitutional obligations of social contract and public trust.
