Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Government of North Dakota This book deals with the government of both the Nation and the State. There are already many good books dealing with civil government, and a few excellent ones. Yet the author feels justified in adding one more book to the list. This work differs in two important particulars, from the usual text book in civil government. In the first place this is not a formal treatment of the dry bones of the subject, on the one hand, nor is it, on the other hand, a work on elementary sociology. Both extremes are carefully avoided. Civil gov ernment is presented, however, with proper emphasis on the political and sociological bearings of government. In the second place, the Federal principle of our government is given great prominence in the treatment of the framework of Federal and State government. The two constitutions, Federal and State, are studied together, in parallel column. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fourteenth Biennial Report of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Labor to the Governor of North Dakota: For the Term Ending June 30, 1916 In 1917 the poor state yield per acre was caused by drouthy conditions prevailing practically all over the state during the growing period, but more particularly in the central and western parts. It will be gathered from the foregoing summary of conditions that for the last two crops, even with the government minimum price established at per bushel at Minneapolis, the average North Dakota farmer has been producing wheat at an actual loss. To such an extent had these two successive partial crop failures depleted the financial resources. Of our farmers in the central and western parts of the state that remedial legis lative action became an actual necessity, and such action was taken at the special January session of the state legislature, to which reference is made later. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Collections of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, Vol. 1 It is with pleasure that the secretary of the State Historical Society reports the progress that has been made during the past year. Since the annual state appropriation of became available, July 1, 1905, the general outline of work has been ar ranged and some small part of the task has been accomplished. When the Society was reorganized in 1908, very little was at tempted during the next two years except some archaeological work in the Missouri valley, an exhibit at the St. Louis world's fair and the beginning of a collection of the newspapers of the state. The proposed reconstruction of the capitol building has delayed our occupation of the rooms set apart for us, but in June we were notified that we could take possession of the museum room, office and vault in the basement of the new wing at the capitol. This was Welcome news to all friends of the Society. During the inter'regnum the collection of newspapers, books, Indian relics and other miscellaneous material was stored in various places, in danger of loss by fire and subject to all the wear and tear incident to such storage; The furnishing of the museum room with suitable display cases, and the vault with file cases for papers and documents, has yet to be done, no funds are available just now for any of these purposes. In spite of this, however, the Society has taken possession of the rooms and is having temporary cases made till permanent furniture can be supplied, so that the public may see what we have done to justify state aid in the past and why we ask for a larger appro priation for the future.
