Book City Meets Mr Bear

Download or read book City Meets Mr Bear written by Peter Carlock and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hello, my name is Peter Carlock. City Stories were born over twenty years ago when I started making them up as bedtime stories for my niece, Selina. Since then, City has had countless stories and adventures. He has met a vast number of characters and has entertained my oldest, Josh, now twelve; Eli, now seven; and continues to entertain Maya, now three. It is my hope that City and his friends Josh and Cleo will continue to entertain children of all ages at bedtime for a long time to come. I hope they will find City and his friends funny, educational, and just simply put a smile on their face. Wouldnt be nice if we all could look at our world with the awe and wonder as we once did as children? Maybe, just maybe, through Citys eyes, we can, even if just for a bit. Thank you. Sweet dreams. It was a really good day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alf the Bear is a timely retelling of the story of the Prodigal Son, written as a tale to be read by adults to children of all ages. Poignant, humorous, incisive and exciting, with simple illustrations designed to be copied or coloured in, this little book brings the timeless message of a classic parable to life in a novel and interesting way as unchanging themes are introduced in very modern ways. Alf is impatient to receive his inheritance and leave his home town for the bright lights of the big city. Having pestered his father to give in to his wishes, Alf sets off on his adventures, using his money to make a name for himself and become the celebrity he has always wanted to be. That is, until the money runs out and Alf’s star fades rapidly away. Alone, rejected and hungry, he thinks of all that he left behind at home and resolves to return there, where a surprise welcome awaits him. Whilst the Prodigal Son remains rooted in Christian teaching, those of other or no faith will enjoy this tale as much as anyone else. For Christian parents or carers, Alf’s story provides an accessible route into the lessons that Jesus’s parable teaches us about numerous topics, not least of which is the underlying message of God, our Father’s, Love for us all.

Book A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear

Download or read book A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear written by Matthew Hongoltz-Hetling and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tiny American town's plans for radical self-government overlooked one hairy detail: no one told the bears. Once upon a time, a group of libertarians got together and hatched the Free Town Project, a plan to take over an American town and completely eliminate its government. In 2004, they set their sights on Grafton, NH, a barely populated settlement with one paved road. When they descended on Grafton, public funding for pretty much everything shrank: the fire department, the library, the schoolhouse. State and federal laws became meek suggestions, scarcely heard in the town's thick wilderness. The anything-goes atmosphere soon caught the attention of Grafton's neighbors: the bears. Freedom-loving citizens ignored hunting laws and regulations on food disposal. They built a tent city in an effort to get off the grid. The bears smelled food and opportunity. A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear is the sometimes funny, sometimes terrifying tale of what happens when a government disappears into the woods. Complete with gunplay, adventure, and backstabbing politicians, this is the ultimate story of a quintessential American experiment -- to live free or die, perhaps from a bear.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling new narrative about how two Great Powers of the early twentieth century did battle, both openly and in the shadows Decades before the Berlin Wall went up, a Cold War had already begun raging. But for Bolshevik Russia, Great Britain - not America - was the enemy. Now, for the first time, Victor Madeira tells a story that has been hidden away for nearly a century. Drawing on over sixty Russian, British and French archival collections, Britannia and the Bear offers a compelling new narrative about how two great powers of the time did battle, both openly and in theshadows. By exploring British and Russian mind-sets of the time this book traces the links between wartime social unrest, growing trade unionism in the police and the military, and Moscow's subsequent infiltration of Whitehall. As early as 1920, Cabinet ministers were told that Bolshevik intelligence wanted to recruit university students from prominent families destined for government, professional and intellectual circles. Yet despite these early warnings, men such as the Cambridge Five slipped the security net fifteen years after the alarm was first raised. Britannia and the Bear tells the story of Russian espionage in Britain in these critical interwar years and reveals how British Government identified crucial lessons but failed to learn many of them. The book underscores the importance of the first Cold War in understanding the second, as well as the need for historical perspective ininterpreting the mind-sets of rival powers. Victor Madeira has a decade's experience in international security affairs, and his work has appeared in leading publications such as Intelligence and National Securityand The Historical Journal. He completed his doctorate in Modern International History at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.
