Download or read book The Desecularisation of the City written by David Goodhew and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-21 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major cities have long been seen as centres of secularisation. However, the number of congregations in London grew by 50% between 1979 and the present. London’s churches have been characterised more by growth than by decline in the decades since 1980. The Desecularisation of the City provides the first academic survey of churches in London over recent decades, linking them to similar developments in other major cities across the West. Produced by a large team of scholars from a range of disciplines, this volume offers a striking and original portrait of congregational life in London since 1980. Seventeen chapters explore the diverse localities, ethnicities and denominations that make up the church in contemporary London. The vitality of London’s churches in the last four decades shows that secularisation is far from inevitable in the cities of the future. This study necessitates a significant reassessment of the dominant academic portrayal of Christianity in Britain and the West, which has, mostly, depicted cities as secular spaces within a secularising culture. It will be of great interest to scholars working across a wide range of disciplines, including history, sociology, religious studies and theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Echoing the Mystery is a catechetical resource specializing in sharing the doctrines of the Faith. After the culmination of many years of catechetical teaching and engaging all ages to share these truths, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist joyfully present this beautiful master resource Echoing the Mystery. In a shared desire to compile and supply an all-encompassing source for ‘echoing’ the doctrines of the Faith, the Sisters have accomplished their long-held desire to transmit the catechetical teaching approach from reputable catechist, Barbara Morgan, finally presenting in one place, her decades-long teaching method of the keys to the doctrines. “Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32 Echoing the Mystery, Unlocking the Deposit of Faith in Catechesis, aims to open the mysteries God has revealed to us. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, He has communicated to us His loving plan of salvation. In order for these Truths to be echoed down, they must first be studied and contemplated. This publication makes them accessible to anyone desiring to evangelize and catechize.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catholics of African descent have been in the Catholic Church in Canada since Canada's pre-independent days, and yet there has been and still is a poverty of pastoral outreach to them. In a richly researched yet enjoyably readable study, Father Enwerem posits that the recent arrival of African missionaries is a good sign for the rejuvenation of Catholicism in Canada, but he suggests that the Church’s continuing silence on the presence and contributions of Africans in the historiography of Catholicism in Canada betrays a subtle racism. Compelling and utterly convincing, Hidden and Forgotten addresses the urgent need to correct this incomplete, and therefore false, history of Catholicism in Canada.
