Book excerpt: Overall, the results underline the importance of using innovative and carefully managed intensive fertigation practices in promoting tree growth and root length density, increasing nutrient and water uptake, and conserving environmental quality while sustaining high citrus yields on Florida's sandy soils. The results from the field experiments and computer simulations should allay any fears of potential groundwater contamination associated with proper use of the ACPS/OHS practices.

Download or read book Information to Consider in the Use of Soils of Flatwoods and Marshes for Citrus written by J. R. Beckenbach and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid expansion of the Florida citrus industry during the last 10 years has resulted in an almost complete utilization of all well-drained land now known to be suitable for citrus. An estimated 793,500 acres of land were in bearing and non-bearing groves in 1962. Most of this acreage is on well-drained sandy soils in reasonably warm areas of the state. Consumer demand for citrus products has hept pace with the increased production so that the pressure for expansion has not abated. Thus, there is considerable interest in greater utilization for citrus of the vast acreages of flatwood soils now used for forest, pasture, field crops and vegetables.
