I will take it back to the Philippines.” Iyon ang matapang na pahayag ni Moira kay Giancarlo, ang kanyang Italian boss, na later on ay naging companion/bedmate niya. Ganoon kasi ang gustong ipakahulugan ng lalaki sa relasyon nila. He was not into labels. At ngayon, sinabi niya kay Giancarlo na buntis siya—which in truth was a big lie. Sinabi lang iyon ni Moira kay Giancarlo para tuluyan na niyang maagaw ang lalaki sa ex-wife nitong nanloko rito noon. Nagbalik kasi ang babae at parang nagpaparamdam na gustong makipagbalikan. Book Language Normativity and Europeanisation

Download or read book Language Normativity and Europeanisation written by Heiko Motschenbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-23 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on linguistic practices of identity construction in a popular culture media context, the Eurovision Song Contest. Subscribing to a normativity-based approach to critical discourse analysis, it studies Europeanisation as it surfaces at the discursive interface of European, national and sexual identities in Eurovision lyrics and performances. Research in critical discourse analysis that deals with Europeanisation, or the discursive work involved in European identity formation, has so far mainly studied data from EU political contexts that illustrate a top-down approach to what Europeanness means. The present book complements this earlier research in several ways, focusing on the linguistic construction of identities, and its interrelation with non-linguistic modes of signification in the Eurovision Song Contest. Discursive mechanisms that prove to be central for the normative shifts of Europeanisation in the given context are de-essentialisation, inclusion, camp, crossing and languaging.

Book Exercises in Translation

Download or read book Exercises in Translation written by Joy Charnley and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 2002 to 2004 Présence Suisse funded a 'Swiss Fellow in the UK' programme in five universities in the four regions of the United Kingdom which enabled a Swiss writer or academic to be based in one university and to undertake short visits to the other four. Three Swiss Fellows, each writing in one of the official languages of Switzerland, took part. This book marks the success of the programme and the events which it generated by assembling contributions from participants and organisers and from others involved in Swiss studies in the United Kingdom. The essays deal with aspects of perception and mediation which occur in the interchange between two countries. There are views of each country acquired by citizens of the other through travel or short sojourns; comments on the effect on their writing from writers who have adopted the other country by living there permanently; and accounts of interchange through critical appreciation, translation and cultural borrowing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work covers 840 intentional suicide cases initially reported in Daily Variety (the entertainment industry's trade journal), but also drawing attention from mainstream news media. These cases are taken from the ranks of vaudeville, film, theatre, dance, music, literature (writers with direct connections to film), and other allied fields in the entertainment industry from 1905 through 2000. Accidentally self-inflicted deaths are omitted, except for a few controversial cases. It includes the suicides of well-known personalities such as actress Peg Entwistle, who is the only person to ever commit suicide by jumping from the top of the Hollywood Sign, Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy Dandridge, who are believed to have overdosed on drugs, and Richard Farnsworth and Brian Keith, who shot themselves to end the misery of terminal cancer. Also mentioned, but in less detail, are the suicides of unknown and lesser-known members of the entertainment industry. Arranged alphabetically, each entry covers the person's personal and professional background, method of suicide, and, in some instances, includes actual statements taken from the suicide note.

Book excerpt: What if our current interpretation of ego was completely and utterly wrong? Wilder yet, what if the basic premise of Christianity, the notion of original sin was all a huge misunderstanding? When Margaret Gabriel, a psychic and author, goes on an extended stay in her beloved Venice to promote her book, Thank God for Red Shoes, her life is literally transformed. As she embarks on a voyage of self-discovery, from top to toe in Italy, little does Margaret know that the additional installments which she is about to channel will provide astounding revelations that have the potential to change of the paradigm of how we see the world. Innamorata dellItalia, totally in love with the culture and especially the language of Italy, Margaret revels in the generosity of spirit of the Italian people; in two incredibly beautiful men; in the art and food of remarkable cities; and, at the ripe old age of sixty, in her own renewed sensuality and personal power. A book within a book, a love affair within a love affair, and a practical crash course on how to access both happiness and empowerment, Rapture is a tour de force.

Book Pasolini Chaucer and Boccaccio

Download or read book Pasolini Chaucer and Boccaccio written by Agnès Blandeau and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-12-09 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pier Pasolini's "trilogy of life" is a series of film adaptations of major texts of the past: The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, and One Thousand and One Nights. The movies demonstrate a film author's acute aesthetic sensibility through a highly original cinematic rendering of the sources. The first two films, closely examined in this book, offer a personal, purposefully stylized vision of the Middle Ages, as though Pasolini were dreaming Boccaccio's and Chaucer's texts through the filter of his "heretic" consciousness. The unusual poetic visualization of the source works, which could be described as irreverent cinematic homage, has the potential to renew the traditional reading of such literature. This book shows how cinema becomes an alternative form of storytelling. It first studies the two films in detail, putting them in perspective within the trilogy. Next it interprets them, recounting misinterpretations and expounding upon Pasolini's ideological perception, and defends the oft-criticized adaptations. Finally, it discusses how the films represent innovation over strict adaptation. Appendices offer charts with information on the narrative structures of the films and the correspondences between them.

Book Senza Fine

  • Publisher : Isola Di Govinda
  • Release : 2023-11-09
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 317 pages

Download or read book Senza Fine written by Giuseppe Govinda and published by Isola Di Govinda. This book was released on 2023-11-09 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book A simple story me myself and her

Download or read book A simple story me myself and her written by Anne Lamunière and published by Europa Edizioni. This book was released on 2022-10-31 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mia is a young woman who leaves her small hometown in Umbria, Italy, to start a new life in New York. Day by day, through backbreaking work shifts and endless passion, she carves her space within the art world of the Big Apple. Among the sparkling mundanity, the drugs, the pleasures of food and the hypocrisy of her new world, Mia manages to nourish genuine friendships, find true love and build a family. But not all dreams are meant to last forever, and Mia will soon be faced with the most unbearable pain a mother can experience, and will have to appeal to her inner strength to put her life back on track. The narrative voice of this Simple Story is Angela, Mia’s daughter. In a humorous, innocent but real tone, she will take you into her and her mother’s life, and touch the most sensitive cords of your soul. Anne Lamunière grew up in Geneva, but soon moved to Italy then to New York as fast as she could. Set design being her first passion, she worked in the restaurant business for years. Having now settled back in her home country for the past fifteen years, her career as a specialist in Post War and Contemporary Art has taught her that everything is possible if you climb on the right trains, and that anyone can have multiple new exciting beginnings in life. After a Master’s degree in Political Science and a first job at McDonald’s, Maria Antonietta Bonacci discovered the world of the media and developed a passion for storytelling. An international career in Marketing and Communication followed in the field of high jewelry and finance with the certainty that one day she’d write a short story that would hopefully mean something to someone out there. Her motto: dreams come true if you believe in them and if you have precious friends to help you make them happen.
