Book Church State and Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book Church State and Education Classic Reprint written by Ernest Barker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Church, State and Education At the end of one of my latest books (principles of Social and Political Theory, published in 1951) I find myself still confronted by the same tension, and arguing in much the same sense as I had argued long ago in 1914. And therefore, on the whole, I see no real change in my views; I see only a different emphasis, varying from time to time, now on this and now on that side of the permanent tension between the authority of the State and the voluntary play of freely formed and freely acting groups or societies. It is impos sible not to experience and confess some change of mind and alteration of view with the change of circumstance and the alter ation of contingencies. But I do not think that this means any real or substantial change of View. The tension remains: the circum stances surrounding it change: the barometer of the reflective mind just registers the consequential change in the character and balance of the tension which must always continue to exist. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church and Popular Education England was the direct outgrowth of ministerial in uence upon the law-makers of the first colonies of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The phraseology of and historic comment on those early laws which established common schools, grammar schools and co'lleges, show that the underlying motive for all these foundations was to continue the supply of an educated ministry for the churches, good leaders for the State, and to prevent the extinction of learning among the people. In New England local history there is nothing more characteristic of those simple religious communities, wherein town and church were practically one in spirit, than the systematic support of preaching and teaching. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education in the Church The world is not indifferent to religion; it is becoming more conscious of its spiritual needs. There is almost a religious devotion in the principal charge against the church, that it is not on to its job. This seems to mean not alone that it is inefficient, but that it does not perceive its task. That is the heart of the problem, the lack of a sufficiently clear, distinct, and definite function, one that will meet a need otherwise unmet, one that Will convince the minds, . Enlist the wills, and win the hearts of all men and women of spiritual perceptions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, the ongoing battle between religion and public education is once again a burning issue in the United States. Prayer in the classroom, the teaching of creationism, the representation of sexuality in the classroom, and the teaching of morals are just a few of the subjects over which these institutions are skirmishing. James Fraser shows that though these battles have been going on for as long as there have been public schools, there has never been any consensus about the proper relationship between religion and public education. Looking at the most difficult question of how private issues of faith can be reconciled with the very public nature of schooling, Fraser paints a picture of our multicultural society that takes our relationship with God into account.

Book Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church Classic Reprint written by William Allen Lambert and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church It seems strange that Luther in neither of his treatises on the establishment of public schools speaks specifically of the religious education of the child. His catechisms were not written for the school, but for 'pastors and teachers, ' as the preface to the Small Catechism says, and for 'house-fathers, ' as the headings of the various parts say. Even Gerhard looks to the ministers and not to the schools for the religious training of the children. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Roman Catholic Church and the Public Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Roman Catholic Church and the Public Schools Classic Reprint written by Edwin D. Mead and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Roman Catholic Church and the Public Schools The address upon The Roman Catholic Church and the School Question, which has the first place in the following pages, was delivered in connection with the now somewhat famous text-book controversy in Boston in the autumn of 1888, and was published at that time in pamphlet form. The address upon the question, Has the Parochial School Proper Place in America? Was given before the National Educational Association, at Nashville, in July last. The writer declined the invitations for its publication at the time, as it was his desire to expand and strengthen that portion of the address devoted to the subject of moral training in the public schools. The leisure for this revision has never come, and the address is given here almost untouched. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Church School Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Church School Classic Reprint written by Walter Scott Athearn and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church School This volume is the outgrowth of a commission report on "The Correlation of the Educational Agencies of a Local Church" presented at the Cleveland meeting of the Religious Education Association. This report awakened widespread interest. As chairman of this commission the writer has received many requests for details of organization and nature and content of curriculum suited to the various periods of unfolding childhood. The introduction of courses in religious education into colleges, seminaries and city institutes has created a demand for textbooks which will open up the whole field and direct the students to the literature and material now accessible. This volume is not an attempt to assemble the popular practices in the church schools of our times. The author believes that nothing is practical which is not founded on the best educational theory. The great need of the church schools of our day is leadership capable of evaluating practice in terms of well-established theory. Progress in religious education must not be a matter of accident - the chance survival of that which works. Book Recreation and the Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book Recreation and the Church Classic Reprint written by Herbert Wright Gates and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Recreation and the Church There is no more potent influence or favorable approach to the inner life of childhood and youth than is found in recreational interests and activities. Play, games, athletic sports, are not merely ad junots to a religious educational program, baits to interest, or preventives of less desirable occupations. They are the open door to the real boy, the real girl, and they furnish the best of opportunities for direct as well as indirect moral and religious training. The church that fails to take account of, and to use to the best advantage, these means of reaching the children and youth misses an important part Of its opportunity. It is with the hope of aiding those who desire to increase their effectiveness in this field that this book has been written. The attempt has been made to present only such principles as have stood the test of experience and ideals that have been more or less fully realized in practical work. The author wishes to acknowledge his indebted ness to the many who have aided him with informa tion and suggestions. The chapter on Some Typical Church Programs would have been im possible without the letters from those mentioned therein, giving the results of their own experience. Special acknowledgment is due to Rev. J. W. F. Davies, of Community House, Winnetka, Illinois. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education: A Comprehensive Text Book This Text Book is the outcome of a wide demand for a complete Handbook, covering fully all phases of Religious Education in the Church. There was no such book hitherto extant. It took a library of some thirty or more volumes to cover the necessary field, as laid down in the Standard Course for teacher-training set forth by the Joint Commission on Sunday Schools. Such reading was overwhelm ing, unnecessary (for often but a few pages or precepts of a writer applied directly to Religious Education), and costly in the purchase of so many volumes. The author prepared a smaller book, Sunday School Teaching, a compilation of authorities covering 175 pages, in 1903, which has gone through three large editions in five years, being the Guide Book for the training of several thousand Sunday School teachers, of all religious bodies. Even day school educators found it suggestive and illuminat ing. It will be continued in the market. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
