Book excerpt: The original Guru, the Self, is present in everybody's heart as Silence. This Silence can be recognized in the gap between two thoughts, two actions, two breaths, two moments. This Silence may also just appear spontaneously, when one is simply at rest, at peace. Chup Sadhana is an effortless no-practice practice, which reveals this ever-present, underlying Silence in which all the events of life are experienced. This is the missing link, which connects different spiritual traditions.

This is Self-realization. No methods, no philosophies, no practices, just a direct pointing to what is never absent. This is the stunning purity of Astavakra Gita, an ancient yet little known scripture of Advaita Vedanta.Astavakra Gita can be considered a truly universal text, for it does not date itself to any period of time, nor does it attach itself to any religion, culture, or ethnic group. This new commentary and translation of the Astavakra Gita by Mansoor brings out the simplicity and majesty of these verses of pure Non-duality, making them accessible to everyone on the spiritual path.

Book The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment Volume 1

Download or read book The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment Volume 1 written by Tsong-kha-pa and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2014-12-09 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of the 15th-century spiritual classic that condenses Buddhist teachings into one easy-to-follow meditation manual The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Tib. Lam rim chen mo) is one of the brightest jewels in the world’s treasury of sacred literature. The author, Tsong-kha-pa, completed it in 1402, and it soon became one of the most renowned works of spiritual practice and philosophy in the world of Tibetan Buddhism. Because it condenses all the exoteric sūtra scriptures into a meditation manual that is easy to understand, scholars and practitioners rely on its authoritative presentation as a gateway that leads to a full understanding of the Buddha’s teachings. Tsong-kha-pa took great pains to base his insights on classical Indian Buddhist literature, illustrating his points with classical citations as well as with sayings of the masters of the earlier Kadampa tradition. In this way the text demonstrates clearly how Tibetan Buddhism carefully preserved and developed the Indian Buddhist traditions. This first of three volumes covers all the practices that are prerequisite for developing the spirit of enlightenment (bodhicitta).

Book Naushadnama

Download or read book Naushadnama written by Raju Bharatan and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seven letters in Naushad’s name are like the seven notes of Hindustani classical music. After just a few years in films, Naushad (1919-2006) went to rule the Hindi cinema music world for around two decades, beginning with the landmark Rattan (1944). His oeuvre (from 1940 to 2005) consists of an unmatched list of jubilees, many of which are musical milestones such as Andaz (1949), Baiju Bawra (1952), Mother India (1957) and Mughal-e-Azam (1960). No individual stays supreme without putting in tremendous efforts to reach the pinnacle and to stay there as long as possible, as our maestro did. And no composer probably moved so cleverly, behind the scenes, than did Naushad to sustain his hold on the public imagination. Although we continue to marvel at the incredible variety of his mellifluous creations that have withstood the test of time, how little most of us know about Naushad the man. Renowned song historian Raju Bharatan fleshes out the real Naushad – his triumphs and tragedies – bringing into play more than 50 years of personal interaction with the tuneful titan. In the process, the author makes the book more sparking with a string of anecdotal gems. For instance: • How Naushad and his contemporaries despite their professed bonhomie, were fiercely competitive (both musically and monetarily) in their attempts to occupy the ‘top spot’. • How many days of rehearsal were needed for some of the Baiju Bawara masterpieces? • How the immortal compositions of Mughal-e-Azam were recorded in a studio no better than a tin shed. This volume also throws new light on the relations and interactions between Naushad and his singers (especially Suraiya, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Shamshad Begum); his songwriters (mainly D.N Madhok, Shakeel Badayuni and Majrooh Sultanpuri); and his ‘unsung’ instrumentalists (some of whom were geniuses in their own right).

Sadhana is a Sanskrit term used to refer to a daily spiritual practice. It is also a means of forging a ritual connection with God or universal energy. Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He was awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his collection Gitanjali. The main objective of his teachings was to increase the level of consciousness of people and to aware people of their true selves. Begin with Rabindranath Tagore a journey of peace today on the path to a better, more balanced life. Large Print edition, easy to read layout. EXCERPT: "Everything has sprung from immortal life and is vibrating with life, for life is immense. This is the noble heritage from our forefathers waiting to be claimed by us as our own, this ideal of the supreme freedom of consciousness. It is not merely intellectual or emotional, it has an ethical basis, and it must be translated into action. In the Upanishad it is said, The supreme being is all-pervading, therefore he is the innate good in all. To be truly united in knowledge, love, and service with all beings, and thus to realise one's self in the all-pervading God is the essence of goodness, and this is the keynote of the teachings of the Upanishads: Life is immense!" CONTENTS: AUTHOR'S PREFACE I. THE RELATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL TO THE UNIVERSE II. SOUL CONSCIOUSNESS III. THE PROBLEM OF EVIL IV. THE PROBLEM OF SELF V. REALISATION IN LOVE VI.
