Excerpt: The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a Mid-size SUV produced by the Jeep division of Chrysler. While some other SUV's were manufactured with body on frame construction, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always used a unibody chassis. The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors (AMC) engineers were designing a successor to the smaller Jeep Cherokee (XJ). Three outside (non-AMC) designers-Larry Shinoda, Adam Clenet, and Giorgetto Giugiaro-were under contract with AMC to create and build a clay model of the Cherokee replacement, then known as the "XJC" project. However, the basic design for the Cherokee's replacement was well under way by AMC's in-house designers and the 1989 Jeep Concept 1 show car foretold the basic design. The Grand Cherokee was the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product. Development work for the new model continued and Chrysler employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late-1980s release date; however, CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late 1992 as an Explorer competitor. Unlike the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee utilized monocoque (unibody) construction, whereas the Explorer was a derivative of the Ranger pickup with a separate body-on-frame. The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the January 1992 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. Then Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As U.S. and Canadian automakers and dealers face bankruptcy and Toyota battles unprecedented quality-control problems, Lemon-Aid guides steer the confused and anxious buyer through the economic meltdown unlike any other car-and-truck books on the market. Phil Edmonston, Canada’s automotive "Dr. Phil" for more than 40 years, pulls no punches. In this all-new guide he says: Chrysler’s days are numbered with the dubious help of Fiat. Electric cars and ethanol power are PR gimmicks. Diesel and natural gas are the future. Be wary of "zombie" vehicles: Jaguar, Land Rover, Saab, and Volvo. Mercedes-Benz – rich cars, poor quality. There’s only one Saturn you should buy. Toyota – enough apologies: "when you mess up, ’fess up."

Book Wagoneer Gladiator Comanche and Scrambler

Download or read book Wagoneer Gladiator Comanche and Scrambler written by David Zatz and published by Enthusiast Books. This book was released on 2020-09 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Jeep sales have skyrocketed in recent years, the company has put more money and muscle behind vintage names like Wagoneer and Gladiator, and has jumped into pickups as never before. But what made their past vehicles good enough to bring their names back now? The Wagoneer and its companion, the Gladiator pickup, were well ahead of their time in technology, the first 4x4s with an independent front suspension and automatic transmission. Updates through the years kept them at the forefront of 4x4 technology, but their tough, go-anywhere nature never changed over a long, long product run. The Wagoneer name was also attached to the revolutionary "XJ" series; more commonly associated with the original Cherokee, these tough wagons were an efficient, lightweight unibody design, but were just as capable off-road as the senior Wagoneers. Wagoneer, Gladiator, Comanche, and Scrambler dives into what made the "XJ" and "ZJ" Wagoneers special--and how they differed from the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. With the new Gladiator making a splash, it's time to look back on Jeep's pickups, not just the original Gladiator, but also one of the most innovative trucks ever made: the Comanche. It shared a great deal with the Cherokee, but clever design gave it both superior ground clearance and the lowest bed height of any comparable 4x4 pickup. The book also covers the CJ-8 Scrambler, which is possibly more popular off-road today than it was at dealerships when it was made. This book traces the history and present state of some of Jeep's newest vehicles, including the upcoming Wagoneer and the new Gladiator, and some of its most famous and most-loved, with original and period photography; it's a "must-have" for any Jeep enthusiast.

Book Rational Leadership

  • Author : Paul Brooker
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

Download or read book Rational Leadership written by Paul Brooker and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-11-24 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rational leadership inspires confidence by capably using appropriate rational means, as described in the first edition of Rational Leadership. Now a second, updated edition has added eight new chapters and has looked at redevelopment as well as development. The book highlights these two important versions of rational leadership, where a rational leader is either developing or redeveloping a business corporation. Part One presents eight cases of rational leaders who have developed iconic corporations. These best-practice leaders include Sam Walton of Walmart, Meg Whitman of eBay, and Jeff Bezos of Amazon. In all eight cases, the leaders used appropriate adaptive, calculative, and deliberative methods to develop their corporations. In Part Two the authors shift the focus from development to redevelopment. Part Two presents five classic cases of rational leaders redeveloping - remedially renewing - problematic corporations. The leaders include Lou Gerstner of IBM and Steve Jobs of Apple. In all five cases the leaders used appropriate organizational tools, which transformed, reoriented, or hybridized the corporation. Both Part Two and Part One also present supplementary cases of other rational leaders developing or redeveloping a corporation. These leaders include Sheryl Sandberg, Marcel Dassault, Giorgio Armani, Anita Roddick, Satya Nadella, Carly Fiorina, Marissa Mayer, and Jack Welch. In total the authors present more than twenty supplementary or main cases of rational leadership. Most of these case studies are based on a leader's memoir and leader's-eye view, validated by additional biographical and historical sources.
