This clinical update handbook put together by the eminent exponents of otolaryngology in India aims to simplify this elusive condition for the benefit of all practitioners involved in the management of this disease. The first chapter highlights socio-economic burden and the impact of this disease on the health related quality of life. The second chapter describes the underlying mechanisms involved in development of the disease. The third chapter showcases the various diagnostic modalities used to detect the disease, differentiate it from other similar conditions and assess its severity. The fourth chapter gives a very succinent overview of the various management modalities. The fifth chapter encapsulates the medical treatment and the sixth offers a lucid description of the latest surgical techniques for this disease. The seventh chapter deals with the other associated conditions that can confuse, complicate or impact the management of the disease as well as affect its prognosis. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning his work on the monograph to be published in English, this author tried to present more or less general notions of the possibilities of mathematics in the new and rapidly developing science of infectious immunology, describing the processes of an organism's defence against antigen invasions. The results presented in this monograph are based on the construc tion and application of closed models of immune response to infections which makes it possible to approach problems of optimizing the treat ment of chronic and hypertoxic forms of diseases. The author, being a mathematician, had creative long-Iasting con tacts with immunologists, geneticist, biologists, and clinicians. As far back as 1976 it resulted in the organization of a special seminar in the Computing Center of Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sci ences on mathematical models in immunology. The seminar attracted the attention of a wide circle of leading specialists in various fields of science. All these made it possible to approach, from a more or less united stand point, the construction of models of immune response, the mathematical description of the models, and interpretation of results.

Download or read book Common Vestibular Disorders I ECAB written by N N Mathur and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2012-06-08 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Common vestibular disorders presenting with vertigo contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality. The challenge is to identify the underlying cause of dizziness so as to streamline the treatment and improve quality of life. In day-to-day ENT practice, incidence of dizziness is reported to be 10–15%. It is often associated with a range of otological, neurological and psychiatric disorders. There are fewer subjects in medicine which keep us more confused than vertigo. Dizziness and vertigo may be disturbing and incapacitating causing problems to people doing regular or specialized tasks such as driving, operating heavy machinery or flying. As the sensations are hard to describe, patients often use the words "dizziness" and "Vertigo" interchangeably and inconsistently. Patients with the same underlying disorder might describe the symptoms very differently and might also differently describe the same "dizzy" event depending upon how the question is directed. The aim of this book is to explore the experience and learning of some of the eminent medical professionals, develop relevant updates, and make them easily available for utilization by the Indian clinical practitioners.
