Book ABO incompatible Kidney Transplantation

Download or read book ABO incompatible Kidney Transplantation written by Kōta Takahashi and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABO incompatible kidney transplantation is indicated for patients for whom no ABO-identical or minor mismatch donor is available. Since the author and his colleagues performed the first ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation in Japan in 1989, 400 such transplantations have been performed in 41 hospitals in Japan and this practice has contributed to a number of new developments. One is a clearer and more suitable model for conceptualising the mechanism of humoral immune response which enables identification of antigens and antibodies and a therapeutic strategy against rejection. The rejection mechanisms are discussed not only from the perspective of immunology but also viewed from different angles, including anatomy, microscopic and macroscopic pathology, molecular biology and haematology. Immunosuppressive therapy is discussed, divided in four categories: extracorporeal immunomodulation with removal of humoral antibodies; drug therapy to suppress cellular immunity; splenectomy; and anticoagulation therapy. Surgical procedures for kidney transplantation and splenectomy are treated, including discussion of the best timing for the latter. The book gives an overview of the current status with statistics and results of questionnaires and ends with discussions of 17 case histories.

Book Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy

Download or read book Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy written by Mahesh R. Desai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the development of various laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) techniques, which can be performed via the retroperitoneal or the transperitoneal approach. It provides a step-by-step explanation of LDN, including details of intricacies such as port positioning, dissection steps, securing the hilum and retrieval. It also reviews new techniques like robotic donor nephrectomy and single-port donor nephrectomy. Lastly, it explores the non-technical but equally important issues of donor work-up and legal and social aspects. LDN is a unique surgical procedure in which the surgeon operates on an individual who is not a patient but someone donating out of altruistic motives, and it has to be “zero error” for the safety of the graft, donor and the recipient. This handbook is a valuable resource for urologists, general and transplant surgeons as well as anesthesiologists and medical social workers working in the field.

Book Systemic Diseases Renal Manifestations ECAB

Download or read book Systemic Diseases Renal Manifestations ECAB written by D S Rana and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2012-06-13 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the epidemiology, recognition, screening, and management of the various common systemic diseases that commonly present with renal manifestations like diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, hypertension and renal involvement, liver disease, and dysproteinemias. Diabetic nephropathy remains the leading cause of end-stage renal disease across the world. The outlook for patients who have lupus nephritis has improved in the last decade. Kidney disease is common in patients who have advanced liver disease, and creatinine-based methods do not provide an accurate estimation of renal function in this population. Dysproteinemias are associated with protean renal manifestations, and renal disease may be the presenting manifestation. The authors have given a very comprehensive view pertaining to each topic and have given an insight to their own clinical experiences along with the standard guidelines as followed.

Book Primary Glomerular Diseases ECAB

Download or read book Primary Glomerular Diseases ECAB written by Ramadas Pisharody and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2013-07-12 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic functional unit of kidney is the glomerulus. Any renal derangement at that level can lead to a multitude of diseases. The renal as well as glomerular disorders secondary to other causes such as hypertension, diabetes, other vasculites, drugs, malignancies, etc. have been adequately addressed. However, the primary glomerular disorders, due to an ambiguity regarding their genesis, have yet to be explored properly. Though these diseases are clubbed under the common head of "primary", they consist of various distinct subtypes with markedly different mechanisms of pathogenesis, course of the disease, response to treatment and prognoses. This clinical update explores the various types of pimary glomerular diseases with an aim to enhance the reader’s knowledge and aid in timely recognition and precise diagnosis of glomerular diseases to help chart the appropriate treatment of each individual condition. The first chapter elucidates the clinicopathological correlation of primary glomerular diseases to help differentiate them from each other and from other similar differential diagnoses without resorting to renal biopsy in all the cases. The second, third and fourth, chapters explore the various aspects of Proliferative Glomerulonephritis, Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome and Heredofamilial Glomerular Diseases. The last chapter summarizes the clinically relevant current perspectives regarding the pathogenesis and treatment modalities of all the primary glomerular diseases. This book will help the readers understand the intricacies of the aspects mentioned above and guide the practitioner to diagnose and manage Primary Glomerular Diseases with special reference to practical experience in India. The authors have put together the most relevant facts about the disease for an easy comprehension and understanding of primary glomerular diseases by practitioners and students across the specialty.
