Book Chromosomal Location and Molecular Mapping of Tan Spot Resistance Genes in Common Wheat T Aestivum L

Download or read book Chromosomal Location and Molecular Mapping of Tan Spot Resistance Genes in Common Wheat T Aestivum L written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, 75 cultivars highly resistant to tan spot were identified. A positive correlation (r = 0.864; P = 0.001) was found between seedling resistance and adult plant resistance. Inheritance of tan spot resistance was found to be qualitative goverened by single major genes. Three novel resistance genes: tsn3, tsn4 and tsn5 were identified and located on chromosomes 3D, 3A and 3B, respectively. Linkage analysis using SSR markers showed that both the tsn3 (tsn3a, Tsn3b and tsn3c) and tsn4 genes are clustered in the region around Xgwm2a on the short arm of chromosome 3D and 3A, respectively.

Download or read book Plant Genetic Resources written by B. S. Dhillon and published by Alpha Science Int'l Ltd.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food is the basic need of human beings. The increasing population and enhanced standard of living are placing greater demands on food-related requirements in terms of quantity, quality and diversity. The Green Revolution which significantly enhanced productivity of important food crops, nevertheless, resulted in certain fallouts as genetic erosion, soil degradation, chemical pollution and aquifer depletion. Amongst these, decrease in plant genetic diversity is an irreversible loss. As the basic raw material for future plant breeding, plant genetic resources of foodgrains are the key to future food security. Though, plant breeding has attracted the attention of many authors, plant genetic resources remain somewhat neglected. This book gives an overall perspective current status of genetic resource of important foodgrain crops (wheat, rice, maize, barley, sorghum, millets, pulses and legumes and underutilized crops). It provides a comprehensive compilation on current status of information on origin, taxonomy, diversity, collection, exchange, evaluation, utilization, molecular characterization and conservation for food grain crops. Eminent scientists and crop specialists have critically analyzed the information in view of the present and future research priorities. In addition, management issue related to plant genetic resources are also discussed. At present such information on these crops is lacking and this book fills in the void. It shall serve as reference for genetic resource managers, researchers, teachers, students and policy makers in biology and agriculture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time there has been a critical need for a book to assess the genomics of tropical plant species. At last, here it is. This brilliant book covers recent progress on genome research in tropical crop plants, including the development of molecular markers, and many more subjects. The first section provides information on crops relevant to tropical agriculture. The book then moves on to lay out summaries of genomic research for the most important tropical crop plant species.

Book Molecular Marker Technology for Crop Improvement

Download or read book Molecular Marker Technology for Crop Improvement written by José Miguel Soriano and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1980s, agriculture and plant breeding have changed with the development of molecular marker technology. In recent decades, different types of molecular markers have been used for different purposes: mapping, marker-assisted selection, characterization of genetic resources, etc. These have produced effective genotyping, but the results have been costly and time-consuming due to the small number of markers that could be tested simultaneously. Recent advances in molecular marker technologies such as the development of high-throughput genotyping platforms, genotyping by sequencing, and the release of the genome sequences of major crop plants have opened new possibilities for advancing crop improvement. This Special Issue collects 16 research studies, including the application of molecular markers in 11 crop species, from the generation of linkage maps and diversity studies to the application of marker-assisted selection and genomic prediction.

Download or read book The Wheat Genome written by Rudi Appels and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-15 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides the first comprehensive coverage of the wheat genome sequence since the publication of the draft and reference sequences for bread wheat and durum wheat. It presents an overview and all aspects of the gold standard sequence of the bread wheat genome, IWGSC RefSeq v1.0 and its subsequent improvements through 2022 (IWGSC RefSeq v2.1), as well as the sequencing of multiple elite wheat varieties, durum wheat, and ancient wheat. The book provides a broad and extensive review of the resources, tools, and methodologies available for exploiting the wheat genome sequence for crop improvement and studying fundamental questions related to the structure, function, and evolution of the wheat genome. Wheat (Tritcum aestivum L.) is the most widely grown crop in the world, contributing approximately 20 percent of total calories and more protein in human diets than any other single source. This book is useful to students, teachers, and scientists in academia and industry interested in gaining an understanding of the wheat genome and its application as well as plant scientists generally interested in polyploid plant species.
