Book O Lord I Seek Your Countenance Explorations and Discoveries in Pope Benedict XVI s Theology

Download or read book O Lord I Seek Your Countenance Explorations and Discoveries in Pope Benedict XVI s Theology written by Emery de Gaál Gyulai and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Ratzinger’s / Pope Benedict XVI’s list of accomplishments is unparalleled in modern times—in both theological and academic terms. He held prestigious teaching positions in Europe’s finest universities. He played a pivotal role in the deliberations of Vatican II and the formulation of its teachings. His theological publications number above fifteen hundred. And he served the Catholic Church as its Pontiff for eight years. In O Lord, I Seek Your Countenance, Fr. Emery de Gaál contends that Ratzinger/ Benedict is reminiscent of a Church Father in his theological virtuosity. But beyond his brilliant intellect, Benedict’s deep Christ-centered spirituality is what gives life and verve to his academic pursuits. Through essays that explore Benedict’s rich and varied theological thought and achievements, from the 1950s through his Jesus of Nazareth trilogy, de Gaál apprehends Ratzinger as a theologian with philosophical sensitivity whose insights have shaped and will continue to shape the course of Catholic theology for years to come.

Book The Unchanging God of Love

Download or read book The Unchanging God of Love written by Michael J. Dodds and published by Editions Universitaires. This book was released on 1986 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Church's traditional teaching on divine immutability is frequently criticized today by theologians belonging to a wide variety of nationalities and confessions. Such theologians are frequently united in singling out St. Thomas Aquinas as the best representative of the tradition that they are criticizing. Unfortunately, however, their criticism often involves a misrepresentation of St. Thomas' actual teaching on divine immutability. This book provides a clear, accurate, and detailed account of St. Thomas' teaching, presented in a way that allows St. Thomas to speak to the problems and issues that are raised in contemporary theology regarding divine immutability.

Book excerpt: English summary: This collection of essays includes papers given at the Second European Orthodox-Western Symposium of Biblical Scholars in Rila, Bulgaria. It also contains summaries of the discussions which took place in the various groups and formulates the different perspectives in the dialog between orthodox and Western biblical scholars. The book deals with the Old Testament in the Christian tradition, the Old Testament in the New Testament and in ancient Judaism, the canon of the Old Testament as well as Messianic texts and their Christian interpretation from an orthodox, Catholic and Protestant perspective.

Download or read book Wir glauben an den Heiligen Geist written by Cheryl M. Peterson and published by Evangelische Verlagsanstalt. This book was released on 2022-12-16 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We Believe in the Holy Spirit: Global Perspectives on Lutheran Identities Today the concept of "identity" is contested against the backdrop of myriad forms of social, political, economic and ecological exclusion. How is identity expressed in a global Lutheran tradition whose members share common biblical, liturgical, confessional, theological and spiritual foundations, yet represent diverse cultures and traditions? At the end of 2019, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) hosted a global consultation on contemporary Lutheran identities, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The result is the papers presented in this publication. The authors – church leaders, young Christians, theologians, lay and ordained practitioners in local communities – explore the Spirit's work to revive and equip the faithful for vocation through the ministry of the church today and into the future of the Lutheran communion.

Book Shaking the Fundamentals

Download or read book Shaking the Fundamentals written by Jan van Lin and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue central to this study can be considered one of the most pressing facing the World Council of Churches today and in the decades to come, and is much greater than that which confronted the International Mission Council in the years 1910 to1938. The question answered in this study is: what significance can the theology of religions, as it developed between 1910 (Edinburgh) and 1938 (Tambaram), have for present-day endeavours to develop a more common understanding and vision within the ecumenical movement as regards the theological problem of religious plurality? This significance becomes clear in the conclusions and suggestions in the final chapter. One of these conclusions is that classic Trinitarian theology and Pneumatology will be incapable of drawing the theology of religions out of the present impasse as long as traditional Christological models continue to exist within them. A commemoration of the Edinburgh meeting will undoubtedly be organized in 2010; and in view of this commemoration Dr van Lin suggests considering the possibility of starting a process of reflection on the World Council of Churches' theology of religions, similar to those on Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry, and Towards the Common Expression of the Apostolic Faith Today. Given the fact that the study of religious plurality shakes the ecumenical movement to its foundations, within the foreseeable futures serious thought has to be given to placing the study of the theology of religions on the agenda of Faith and Order within the World Council of Churches.
