Through major upheavals and changes in our lives and many adversities and conditions in our lives at the time were very poor. Having to leave a house, I owned, and the children where the children and I lived because of the violence fighting, and lack of marital harmony and again a 3rd attempt on my life. A situation in which, I could not see myself in a position to even think that I could be considered to be used of God, especially with or while going through that particular situation, as such, even though, I had been ordained as a Missionary Evangelist, only a few months, prior at latter of the year before. I did not want to be ordained in the fi rst place because of the problems, I was experiencing at home and was not quite sure where it would lead or I would end up. But evidently, the fi nal decision was not mine, but Gods. But there is a Scripture that tells us, what the devil meant for evil, God will make it good, (paraphrased). There would be so many different direction(s) to turn. But, God himself had a plan in mind. He would work a change in our lives as we knew it, forever. And He would prove himself in the process, to be God. Hallelujah! Yes, God could have done things in a different manner, but He chose to manifest himself in another way. You see God has a Plan, a Purpose and a method by which to fulfill His Plan.

Employing Bernard Lonergan’s notion of the stages of meaning as a hermeneutic, the volume traces the origins of soteriology in the early Christian tradition represented by Irenaeus to its establishment as a systematic theory in Anselm, Aquinas, and subsequent developments in the Protestant tradition of Luther and Schleiermacher. The author concludes with a constructive exploration of Lonergan’s own work on the question of soteriology that overcomes the modernist distortions that hinder Schleiermacher’s account and offers an articulation of the dynamics of Christian conversion that opens onto the social, cultural, and political mediations of redemption necessary for the contemporary age.

Should the Church stop celebrating these holy days, the bookends of our faith, as well? Instead of battling the spiritual enemy on Halloween, the Church is guilty of crossing swords with one another. We fight among ourselves, not about "how" to celebrate Halloween, but whether it should even be observed. Jesus is more the "reason for the season" on Halloween than He is at Christmas. The Church must realize it is forfeiting Halloween as an opportunity to glorify the Prince of Peace, the One who has given us the victory over the "prince of darkness" and his evil minions. The Way, the Truth and the Life has conquered Death and the grave. By dressing up in costumes and portraying frightening creatures who at one time caused us to fear and tremble, we are not glorifying Satan. Rather, we are poking fun at the Serpent whose kingdom has been plundered by our Savior, and whose head has been crushed! Should we celebrate Halloween? The question is, "How can we not?" Halloween, Hallowed is Thy Name offers a believer confidence and joy in expressing the greeting "Happy Halloween."

This is the first full-length analysis of his work and influence, one that not only reveals a traditionally Catholic method of moral analysis but also illuminates the conflicts behind and development of Catholic moral teaching during the volatile 1960s. Ford is best known for his influential contribution to Catholic teachings on three moral issues. His objection to the Allied practice of obliteration bombing during WWII by drawing a sharp distinction between combatants and noncombatants is still studied widely today. Ford campaigned for alcohol education for both clergy and laity and introduced a pastoral approach for assisting and counseling alcoholics. As a member of the Papal Commission on Population, Family, and Birth Rate during the 1960s, Ford was an unyielding defender of the traditional Catholic teaching on birth control that still reigns today. Drawing on the published works and personal papers of Ford, Eric Genilo begins with a brief description of the theologian's life, career, and influence. The book is divided into two parts. In Part I, Method, Genilo offers an overview of Ford's moral theology in the "manualist" tradition—a 300-year period during which Catholic priests used manuals to instruct the faithful on matters of morality and sin. Genilo then examines Ford's two modes of resolving moral cases and presents Ford's approach to doctrinal development. In Part II, Moral Objectivity, Genilo shows how Ford confronted the growing situation ethics movement, then moves to how he understood freedom and subjective culpability, particularly in the case of alcoholism. Later chapters reveal Ford's theological conflicts with Josef Fuchs, SJ on the issue of birth control, his staunch opposition to totalitarianism, and his moral analysis of how society should treat marginalized persons threatened by the abuse of power.
