Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Baptist convention of Malawi (BACOMA) grew out of the Baptist Mission in Malawi's work that began almost 50 years ago as a result of plans by the Central African (Southern Baptist Convention) Mission to expand their works from Zimbabwe to Malawi. Although BACOMA owes much of their tradition to the white Southern Baptists of the US, they are typically a Malawian expression of the Church. In five chapters the author, a long standing Principle of the Baptist Theological Seminary of Malawi, offers a history of the Baptist convention of Malawi. The five themes being: BACOMA's Polygenetic Nature; Evangelistic Zeal and the Development of BACOMA 1970-1989; Women and Youth in Evangelism and the Development of BACOMA; Separation and Cooperation: A "Loose" Partnership and The People."--

Book Baptists and the Ordination of Women in Malawi

Download or read book Baptists and the Ordination of Women in Malawi written by Klaus Fiedler and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-10-30 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptists are keen to go directly to the New Testament in all major issues of faith. If the Bible is the first argument, then history (and therefore tradition) is another line of argument, that both promoters and opponents of women's ordination can and do use. This book is largely concerned with not just the history of women's ordination, or even of Baptists and women's ordination, but offers perspectives from history that may be useful for the discussion of this issue. The thrust of the arguments are aimed at highlighting that differing biblical interpretations are possible, and it must be admitted that Baptists have their own history, over which, much diversity has developed.

Book Conflicted Power in Malawian Christianity

Download or read book Conflicted Power in Malawian Christianity written by Klaus Fiedler and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume constitutes Klaus Fiedlers crowning contribution to scholarship. Essays in the first half of the book focus on Malawian Christianity and how contrasting Powers, Gospel and Secular, engage each other, creating social, political and cultural conflict in the process. In the second half, Fiedler examines general missiological themes. These essays provide a broader missiological background, offering a theoretical framework necessary for appreciating the essays in the first half. He concludes with a chapter that reviews selected seminal books on themes under study. Throughout the volume Fiedler applies the restorationist revival theory he constructed in The Story of Faith Missions, an earlier 1994 work putting emphasis on non classical missions and churches, not systematically covered in earlier scholarship. This volume, the first of its kind on Malawian Christianity, will long remain an indispensable text for those interested in Missiology and Malawian Christianity.

Download or read book Baptist Theology written by James Leo Garrett and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title offers a comprehensive analysis of Baptist theology. Embracing in one common trajectory the major Baptist confessions of faith, the major Baptist theologians, and the principal Baptist theological movements and controversies, this book spans four centuries of Baptist doctrinal history. Acknowledging first the pre-1609 roots (patristic, medieval, and Reformational) of Baptist theology, it examines the Arminian versus Calvinist issues that were first expressed by the General Baptists and the Particular Baptists; that dominated English and American Baptist theology during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries from Helwys and Smyth and from Bunyan and Kiffin to Gill, Fuller, Backus, and Boyce; and, that were quickened by the 'awakenings' and the missionary movement. Concurrently there were the Baptist defense of the Baptist distinctives vis-a-vis the pedobaptist world and the unfolding of a strong Baptist confessional tradition. Then during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the liberal versus evangelical issues became dominant with Hovey, Strong, Rauschenbusch, and Henry in the North and Mullins, Conner, Hobbs, and Criswell in the South even as a distinctive Baptist Landmarkism developed, the discipline of biblical theology was practiced and a structured ecumenism was pursued. Missiology both impacted Baptist theology and took it to all the continents, where it became increasingly indigenous. Conscious that Baptists belong to the free churches and to the believers' churches, a new generation of Baptist theologians at the advent of the twenty-first century appears somewhat more Calvinist than Arminian and decidedly more evangelical than liberal.

Book Choices That Lead to Godliness

Download or read book Choices That Lead to Godliness written by Donna Marie Morley and published by . This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is an excellent book for women who want to develop the ability to make wise discerning choices. Through studies of Scripture and with a casual writing style and humor, the author challenges the reader to become more sensitive about applying God's Word to the myriad of life's daily decisions.... The book is divided into two parts: "Choices in Our Outer Life" and "Choices in Our Inner Life." The "outer life" section includes speech, temper, and friendship, among others. The "inner life" section covers the mind, the conscience, the nature of prayer, worship, God's Word and Bible study. Morley is Scriptural (in fact, always bringing every issue back to what Scripture says) and pointed. She doesn't skirt the issues such as emotion vs. reason, entertainment vs. edification, God's Word vs. our word....The book would make a great gift.... Download or read book Anyone Can Be Saved written by David L. Allen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone Can Be Saved articulates a biblical-theological explanation of the doctrine of salvation in light of the rise of Calvinistic theology among Southern Baptist churches in the United States. Ten scholars, pastors, and leaders advocate for the ten articles of the Traditional Statement by appealing to Scripture, the Baptist Faith and Message, and a variety of biblical, theological, and philosophical writings. Although many books address the doctrine of salvation, these authors consciously set aside the Calvinist-Arminian presuppositions that have framed this discussion in western theology for centuries. The contributors are unified in their conviction that any person who hears the gospel can be saved, a view that was found among earlier Baptists as well as other Christian groups today. This book is not meant to be the final word on Southern Baptist soteriology, but is offered as a peaceable contribution to the wider conversation on the doctrine of salvation.
