Book Exhortation to the Heathen

Download or read book Exhortation to the Heathen written by Clement Of Alexandria and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Exhortation, the object of which is to win pagans to the Christian faith, contains a complete and withering exposure of the abominable licentiousness, the gross imposture and sordidness of paganism. With clearness and cogency of argument, great earnestness and eloquence, Clement sets forth in contrast the truth as taught in the inspired Scriptures, the true God, and especially the personal Christ, the living Word of God, the Savior of men. It is an elaborate and masterly work, rich in felicitous classical allusion and quotation, breathing throughout the spirit of philosophy and of the Gospel, and abounding in passages of power and beauty.

Book An Enquiry Into the Obligations of Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens

Download or read book An Enquiry Into the Obligations of Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens written by William Carey and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The landmark text by William Carey sets out the principles of converting natives of foreign lands to Christianity. An Enquiry into the Obligations of Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens led directly to the formation of the Baptist Missionary Society, and was to inspire Christian missionaries for generations to follow. The author himself could boast great experience: having amassed oratorical experience during his younger years as a schoolmaster, and as the pastor of Leicester's Harvey Lane Baptist Church. The text contains impassioned arguments which attempt to justify missionary work, followed by a researched history of the practice. Later, Carey discusses charts which measure populations through the world and their religious beliefs. All of these charts are reproduced for this edition, allowing the reader insight into Carey's ambitious approach. After publishing this text, Carey put his words into practice, spending decades following his famous essay's publication journeying through colonial India. He founded one of the country's first universities, and worked to spread the Christian gospel to numerous villages and towns in the subcontinent. Variously praised for his ideals of social reform, and lambasted for his unstinting commitment to colonial methods, Carey's most famous text is a superb entry point to his mind and undertakings.

Book The Heathen World and the Duty of the Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Heathen World and the Duty of the Church Classic Reprint written by Alexander Robb and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Heathen World and the Duty of the Church The following thoughts and appeals are meant for the consciences and hearts of Christians. If any of them be led to pray, to work, and to give more, that the gospel of the kingdom of heaven may soon be preached to every man, the Author's end will begained. He deems it unnecessary to apologize for thus urging his fellow-christians to attempt vastly greater tilings, that Jesus may possess all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. Were excuse needful, he would offer only this one, that, being on the eve of returning to the Coast of Guinea - spiritually one of the darkest, and to health one of the most unkindly, regions in the world - to labour with others in preaching Christ, he does not urge fallow-believers to make greater sacrifices for the glory of our Lord, than he himself is willing to make.
