Book Economics Today

Download or read book Economics Today written by Donald A. Hay and published by Regent College Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economics has assumed a dominant role in shaping our modern world. In this book, Donald Hay develops a critique of economics today in the light of a Christian understanding of truth. The author's purpose is to equip the reader with arguments and principles with which to confront new economic problems, as well as to analyse our present situation. Case studies take the arguments and apply them to particular areas of economic analysis. Amongst influential cases illuminated by Donald Hay's study are the free market of capitalism and the planned economy of socialism. He analyses macro-economic policy in the advanced industrial economies, the vexed question of relations between rich and poor nations, and the consequences of economic growth. This book gives an exposition of economics as it is practised in the West. It also provides an insight into the underlying beliefs of economists when they pronounce on public policy issues which affect all of our lives. Donald Hay is a Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Jesus College, Oxford, and a Reader in the Church of England.

Book Christianity and Economic Problems Facts Principles Programs

Download or read book Christianity and Economic Problems Facts Principles Programs written by Federal Council of the Churches Service and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Economic Problems, Facts, Principles, Programs: A Discussion Group Text-Book This book, the second of the Social Problem Discussion Series, has a somewhat different form from the first - "What is the Christian View of Work and Wealth?" It contains a running text instead of reference material gathered from a variety of sources. But it is none the less a discussion course. The outline and the manner of treatment have been determined by the committee and the same kind of discussion has gone into the preparation of the course that it is hoped to elicit by means of it. The text has been written with a view not merely to stating facts or declaring opinions, but to laying bare the issues and enabling the group to approach the problems involved in the subject matter. On first thought many of the questions here dealt with seem to be of too technical a nature for popular discussion. What is contemplated, however, is a moral appraisal of the situation presented by industry in the light of our common heritage of ethical ideals. Suggestions to Leaders The leader will doubtless find himself serving the group best if he keeps as much as possible out of its way. He is really the chairman of a meeting. He should not attempt to "put over" any particular point of view, but to see to it that there is fair discussion. To this end, he probably will not wish to take part himself. He will have all he can do if he carries out his duties as chairman, stating the questions, seeing that all sides are represented in the discussion, and summarizing the conclusions. He may find a blackboard of help if he is handling a large group. The chairman will also need to see that the necessary information for intelligent discussion is before the meeting. Book Economic Crisis

Download or read book Economic Crisis written by John F. Sleeman and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Why doesn't the church say more about what Christians should do at a time of economic crisis? Perhaps, it may be retorted, because the issues involved in the situation are complex, and many church leaders do not feel that they have the necessary knowledge and experience. But the church is more than its leaders, and here an economist, who is a Christian, offers more detailed discussion and explanation than has so far been available. He begins by asking whether there can be a particular Christian economic and social philosophy, and then goes on to examine the main economic issues of our time: inflation, fair shares within the nation, fair shares internationally, growth and environment and economic organization and participation. In the final chapter, the author attempts to draw specific conclusions about an effective Christian approach to the economic order, and gives his own personal view." - Publisher
