Download or read book Biblical Eschatology Second Edition written by Jonathan Menn and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical Eschatology provides what is not found in any other single volume on eschatology: it analyzes all the major eschatological passages (including the Olivet Discourse and the book of Revelation), issues (including the second coming of Christ, the millennium, the rapture, and Antichrist), and positions (including all the major views of the millennium) in a clear, but not superficial, way. The book concludes with a chapter showing how eschatology is relevant for our lives. Biblical Eschatology makes understanding eschatology easier by including chapters on how to interpret prophecy and apocalyptic literature, by showing the history of eschatological thought, and by placing eschatology in the context of the Bible's overall story line and structure. Clarity and understanding are enhanced by the use of comparative tables and appendices. Subject and Scripture indexes are included. The book interacts with the best of Evangelical and Reformed scholarship, and the extensive bibliography (which includes the web addresses of many online resources) provides an excellent source for the reader's further study. This is a perfect resource for intelligent Christians, including pastors, students, and teachers, who desire to understand eschatology and to see how it fits together with the rest of the Bible.

This book was released on 2016-10-16 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Anti-Christianity in Their Final Conflict The chief burden of these criticisms is that the book is pessimistic in its tone. It is said by one It does not acknowledge that there are any Christian tendencies everything in our age is antichristian. By another It adopts a pessimistic theory of history. By another: It represents the world as growing worse, rather than better. A brief examination will show how baseless is all criticism of this kind. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition is the first of its kind to offer a basic collection of facsimile, English language, historical articles on all aspects of the extermination of the European Jews. A total of 300 articles from 84 journals and collections allows the reader to gain an overview of this field. The edition both provides access to the immense, rich array of scholarly articles published after 1960 on the history of the Holocaust and encourages critical assessment of conflicting interpretations of these horrifying events. The series traces Nazi persecution of Jews before the implementation of the "Final Solution", demonstrates how the Germans coordinated anti-Jewish activities in conquered territories, and sheds light on the victims in concentration camps, ending with the liberation of the concentration camp victims and articles on the trials of war criminals. The publications covered originate from the years 1950 to 1987. Included are authors such as Jakob Katz, Saul Friedländer, Eberhard Jäckel, Bruno Bettelheim and Herbert A. Strauss.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dostoyevsky's antisemitism, manifested in his writings of the 1870s, seems to contradict his humanism, and many critics have tended to dismiss it as a marginal detail of the writer's views. Argues, however, that antisemitism held an important place in Dostoyevsky's ethical system, and was linked to his vexed relationship with Christianity. Notes that he staunchly held three ethical principles: sanctity of children, incompatibility of ethics with utilitarianism and calculation, and the view that every kind of authority was bound by the same moral strictures as individuals. Thus, he could not accept a God who had sacrificed his "son" or a redemption brought about by the suffering of a child (Jesus). Dostoyevsky invented the image of a Jew onto whom he could project everything that was unacceptable to him in religion and Western ethics. He considered the "merchant ethics" of both liberalism and socialism to be a Jewish idea and, in particular, regarded the politics of the "Jew" Disraeli as an embodiment of such ethics: to sacrifice innocent Balkan Slavs in the name of supreme political principles. In the 1870s, Dostoyevsky increasingly contrasted the Russian conception of God and compassion for the weak with the Jewish-Western "merchant God" and the idea of obtaining benefits for one person from the suffering of another, innocent person. He developed a conception of principal opposition between things Russian and things Jewish.

Download or read book Defining the Church for Our Time written by Peter Schmiechen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-06-12 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church is broken and we cannot fix it. Faith in God is disconnected from churches. Mainline churches are deeply divided, and their budgets and congregations have diminished, with no agreement for recovery. So what shall we do? It is time to stop talking about the problems and to consider a new vision of the church for our time. This book is a celebration of the church as the community of new life in Christ. It assumes Christ intended to create a community on earth embodying grace and holiness. It begins with a new and inclusive definition of the church as a community enduring in time. It affirms the great variety of churches, all as valid expressions of the new life, and explains how and why churches are formed in different ways. The goal is for churches to celebrate the saving power of Christ and to see the glory of God revealed in the world in our time.
Download or read book The Origins of Anti Authoritarianism written by Nina Witoszek and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the ongoing revolution of dignity in human history as the work of ‘humanist outliers’: small groups and individuals dedicated to compassionate social emancipation. It argues that anti-authoritarian revolutions like 1989’s ‘Autumn of the Nations’ succeeded in large part due to cultural and political innovations springing from such small groups. The author explores the often ingenious ways in which these maladapted and liminal ‘outliers’ forged a cooperative and dialogic mindset among previously resentful and divided communities. Their strategies warrant closer scrutiny in the context of the ongoing 21st century revolution of dignity and efforts to (re)unite an ever more troubled and divided world.
