There is, in our century, and extending to all departments of intelligence, a renaissance of Pagan thought quite analogous to that effected in the fifteenth century and onward, and our period, equally with that, calls for a new birth or regeneration of Christian thought from a more universal insight into the fundamental ideas of Christianity. From 'the very need of it, therefore, we may look for a new dogmatic form of Christian theology that shall iflcorporate the fundamental and primitive ideas of Christianity, as an historical institution, in forms of imaginative thought which Shall correspond to that more internal condition of the Reason and of the Re.
