Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Death is an American deathrock band formed in Los Angeles County, California, in 1979 by Rozz Williams. Williams was eventually joined by guitarist Rikk Agnew of the band Adolescents, with James McGearty on bass guitar and George Belanger on drums. This lineup was responsible for producing the band's best-known work, their 1982 debut album Only Theatre of Pain, which was highly influential in the development of the style of music known as death rock as well as the American gothic scene. During this time legendary L.A. punk rock photographer Edward Colver befriended the band and shot Christian Death at a dozen of the band's concerts in the Los Angeles area during a six-month period in 1981 and 1982, as well as photographing Rozz at his family home with the band which was later used for the back cover of Only Theatre of Pain, and a session of iconic images at a cemetery in Pomona. Cult Epics founder and friend of Rozz Williams, Nico B edited an oversized (12x12") hardcover book of Ed's photos capturing those rare and never-before-seen moments, as well as the story of early Christian Death as told by Edward Colver, surviving band members and others through new, exclusive interviews.

Book Theater Ministry

  • Author : William Kritlow
  • Publisher : CreateSpace
  • Release : 2012-05-09
  • ISBN : 9781494413347
  • Pages : 102 pages

Download or read book Theater Ministry written by William Kritlow and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I believe in Christian Theater Ministries. Nothing capture the attention, imagination, minds, and hearts like live theater. From minutes to hours, an audience or congregation goes wherever you want them to - from their own living rooms to the foot of the cross - and with every step, they become part of both story and message. I'm convinced there's no better way to excite and nurture God's people than a dramatic, theatrical event. Thankfully, these events don't have to be EVENTS! They can be as simple as flipping a light switch, or as complex as parting the Red Sea. But whatever you have time, energy and resources to produce will make a huge impact for our savior and His people. Theater Ministry helps you, step by step, to get a theater ministry going at your church or Christian school. It looks at where such a ministry has its greatest impact, and the various shapes it can take - from something simple that assists a pastor delivering his message, to an elaborate full length play or musical whose aim is to evangelize a community. Wherever God is leading your creative heart, this book will get you there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theology is inherently theatrical, rooted in God's performance on the world stage and oriented toward faith seeking performative understanding in the theatre of everyday life. Following Hans Urs von Balthasar's magisterial, five-volume Theo-Drama, a growing number of theologians and pastors have been engaging more widely with theatre and drama, producing what has been recognized as a "theatrical turn" in theology. This volume includes thirteen essays from theologians and pastors who have contributed in distinct ways to this theatrical turn and who desire to deepen interdisciplinary dialogue between theology and theatre. The result is an unprecedented collection of essays that embodies and advances theatrical theology for the purpose of enriching theological reflection and edifying the church. Contributors include: Kevin J. Vanhoozer Ivan Khovacs Timothy Gorringe Shannon Craigo-Snell George Pattison Jim Fodor Todd E. Johnson David Cunningham Marilyn McCord Adams Richard Carter Samuel Wells Peter Goodwin Heltzel David Brown

Book The Problem with The Dot

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bruce D. Long
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2021-03-02
  • ISBN : 1725282046

Download or read book The Problem with The Dot written by Bruce D. Long and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Problem with the Dot is rooted in the idea that culture is a garden to be tended (Gen 2:15) rather than a war to be won and uses the analogy of an ecosystem to expand the details of the individual components of the theatrical ecosystem to: 1.Help those with minimal exposure to theater understand the indivisible construct of the theatrical ecosystem; 2.Identify areas of Christian neglect within each component; and 3.Emphasize strategic corrections that will result in the holistic restoration of a healthy global culture. Each chapter strengthens the case for a long-term holistic approach to the care and cultivation of global culture through the theatrical ecosystem, culminating in a call to action that is magnified by the unique opportunity presented by the 2020 global pandemic that forced a hiatus on all theatrical productions. The market will reset, and artists will revive theaters. It is my prayer that when this grand reopening occurs around the globe, Christians are an integral part of the new beginning.
