Book Christian Life Community and the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti On Fraternity and Social Friendship

Download or read book Christian Life Community and the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti On Fraternity and Social Friendship written by Tarcisius Mukuka and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-12-21 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This paper was presented to the St Ignatius Christian Life Community [CLC], one of the thousands of CLC cell-groups in all five continents. The St Ignatius CLC is the oldest such group in Zambia. The current members of the group go back over 30 years of belonging to the community. While preparing to deliver this paper via Zoom on 29 November 2020, it occured to me that for members of Christian Life Community who wish to understand “The Spirit of Fratelli Tutti,” they need not look further than the ethos and spirituality of CLC. I challenged members of CLC to ask themselves: how can CLC help us to live out the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti? I reminded the participants that the number of Papal Encyclicals since the modern era is staggering. From the papacy of Pope Benedict XIV (1740–1758), to the papacy of Pope Francis, it is estimated that 299 encyclicals have been churned in the modern era but it looks like most of them ended on shelves in presbyteries around the world and did not reach the ordinary Christian in the pew. There may have been many reasons for that such as the pyramidal structure of the Church which saw the Church through the lens of the clergy. I feared that this may be the way of Fratelli Tutti if we did not do anything about it. That is why this Zoom conference was important and in many ways. It was something of a first — it was organised by lay people and delivered by a lay person. I challenged participants to go back to their families, neighbourhoods, parishes, Small Christian Communities, country, continent and even planet to ask, “What does Fratelli Tutti mean for my family, neighbourhood, parish, Small Christian Community, country, continent and even planet?”

Book excerpt: To the modern mind, the concept of poverty is often confused with destitution. But destitution emphatically is not the Gospel ideal. A love-filled sharing frugality is the message, and Happy Are You Poor explains the meaning of this beatitude lived and taught by Jesus himself. But isn't simplicity in lifestyle meant only for nuns and priests? Are not all of us to enjoy the goodness and beauties of our magnificent creation? Are parents to be frugal with the children they love so much? The renowned spiritual writer Dubay gives surprising replies to these questions. He explains how material things are like extensions of our persons and thus of our love. If everyone lived this love there would be no destitution. After presenting the richness of the Gospel message, more beautiful than any other world view, he explains how Gospel frugality is lived in each state of life.

Book Natural Evil Suffering a New Encyclical and a New World Order A Socio Religious Perspective on the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti

Download or read book Natural Evil Suffering a New Encyclical and a New World Order A Socio Religious Perspective on the Spirit of Fratelli Tutti written by Tarcisius Mukuka and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-02-04 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2020 in the subject Didactics - Theology, Religion Pedagogy, grade: 1.0, Kwame Nkrumah University, language: English, abstract: This elaboration draws out what the author refers to as the “Spirit of Fratelli Tutti” from the recent encyclical by Pope Francis entitled Fratelli Tutti. He provides a socio-religious or theological perspective on the new encyclical. Based on three social virtues, fraternity, solidarity and social friendship, the encyclical is a call to humanity to unite and to build a brave new world order after the Covid-19 pandemic. He has limited himself to examining why the encyclical has been well-received, how Covid-19 calls us to a new way of being human in which humanity is being challenged not to return to business as usual in the way we deal with each other; how natural evil, such as a pandemic, cannot thwart the plan of the creator; how the new encyclical, Fratelli Tutti factors into a new World Order and ending with five lessons he was able to cull from Fratelli Tutti. Written, as the Pope says, when "the Covid-19 pandemic unexpectedly erupted, exposing our false securities” (Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti 2020: par 7), he uses that as a jumping off point to challenge the age-old theologoumenon of the impassibility of God. He argues that God in fact suffers as he has been suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic, but he is not overwhelmed by suffering. Fratelli Tutti calls for a new way of relating to each other as our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, as we head towards Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

Writing in everyday language for the non-scholar, award-winning writer Mark Shea concisely describes the roots of Catholic social teaching in Scripture and Tradition and gives simple, practical examples of how it works in ordinary life. Sketching the meaning of the Dignity of the Human Person, the Common Good, Subsidiarity, and Solidarity, Shea bridges the gulf in our politics and cultural warfare to make the case that Catholic Social Teaching, properly understood, is common sense, as well as the path to living a happier and more just common life for each human person.

From the man who became Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio shares his thoughts on religion, reason, and the challenges the world faces in the 21st century with Abraham Skorka, a rabbi and biophysicist. For years Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Argentina, and Rabbi Abraham Skorka were tenacious promoters of interreligious dialogues on faith and reason. They both sought to build bridges among Catholicism, Judaism, and the world at large. On Heaven and Earth, originally published in Argentina in 2010, brings together a series of these conversations where both men talked about various theological and worldly issues, including God, fundamentalism, atheism, abortion, homosexuality, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and globalization. From these personal and accessible talks comes a first-hand view of the man who would become pope to 1.2 billion Catholics around the world in March 2013.

In this new encyclical on fraternity and social friendship, Pope Francis offers many points that speak to contemporary social issues: the death penalty; the practical limitations of "just war" teaching; the plight of migrants and refugees, and a warning against building walls that deny our common humanity. But underneath all these topical issues is a call to discernment and conversion.
